The DM assessed the condition of cattle shelters across all development blocks, reviewed ongoing shelter construction projects, and discussed various cattle protection initiatives.
During the proceedings, the DM directed the officials to ensure essential amenities in cow shelters, including fodder, water supply, proper shelter, and electrical connections. Regarding the large cattle protection centres being constructed in Naramau, Bilhaur, and Jamalpur (Kakwan), instructions were issued to accelerate construction while reducing payments to the executing agency.
The Public Works Department will inspect the construction following the reduction.
The DM instructed the block development officers and assistant veterinary officers to conduct joint inspections of two cow shelters each, complete fodder and silage tender processes, and submit quality assessments. He established a target for all block development officers to secure 100 quintals of donated fodder by Saturday, while ensuring their cattle catch units remain fully functional with proper certification.
He has set objectives under the Cattle Protection Goal, requiring each block development officer to protect a minimum of 10 cattle weekly. By June 30, the programme aims to distribute 100 cattle to malnourished families under the nutrition mix programme.
For pasture development work, the directive requires establishing pastures near each cow shelter by July 15. The DC MGNREGA and district development officer has been asked to develop pastures in 5 blocks and present findings at the subsequent meeting.

Diversion road collapses, disrupts traffic in Keonjhar
Keonjhar: The diversion road of the under-construction Baunsajora bridge on the Kanjipani–Kuntala road in Keonjhar district collapsed on Sunday, disrupting traffic throughout the day. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Due to the high water flow, the bridge could not be repaired, cutting off communication between Telkoi and Jagmohanpur (NH 49). According to sources, the road near Lokanathpur village, built by the Public Works Department (PWD), was damaged after heavy rains over the past two days. As a result, connectivity from Telkoi to Jagmohanpur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Rourkela was severed. More than 20 villages in Telkoi block, including Chhamunda, Binjabahal, and Jagamohanpur panchayat, have been cut off from the block headquarters. Emergency services have also been affected. "People are facing unprecedented problems. Passenger buses and other vehicles are plying on a narrow road through Dobalapal and Chhamunda," said Chinmay Sahu, a local. Locals have urged the district administration to act immediately. PWD officials visited the site after the road collapse. "The road will be repaired soon," said junior engineer Nihar Nayak. Residents blamed the PWD for negligence and poor-quality diversion work. A total of Rs 29.39 crore was sanctioned for constructing two bridges over Hanumantia Nala and Baunsajhari Nala and improving a 12-km stretch from Telkoi to Nampashi in Angul district. However, slow progress in construction has led to the current crisis.

BBMP grant: Temple jewels to be secured in new strong room; additional facilities for priests and tourists planned at Talacauvery
MADIKERI: A strong room is under construction in Talacauvery, an important religious place in Kodagu, to keep the precious jewels of the temples. Many years ago, when BBMP leaders visited Talacauvery, they gave a grant of Rs. 1 crore for the development of the area. Using this money, the construction of the much-needed strong room has now begun. Along with this, a water storage tank is also being built to provide drinking water during the summer in the Talacauvery area. Although there is already a tank in the area, another tank is being built as the water runs out in necessary situations. Preparations are underway to construct a 12-foot-high, 70-foot-long barrier wall on the western side of the strong room. Currently, in this BBMP-funded project, a room is being built for a security guard to protect the gold and jewellery, which will be kept in the strong room, said Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department D.M. Girish, who is in charge of the works. More room for priests After the house of late Narayanachar, who was the previous Chief Priest in the area, was washed away, the priests have requested suitable residential facilities for the priests. Girish said that the construction of one house for Archaks on this land is included in this project. According to him, space has been left for the construction of more houses for the priests. But the money available with the BBMP grant is not enough to build these houses now. He confirmed that there are opportunities to build houses and provide facilities in the future. Kodi Motaiah, the Prapathegar of Talacauvery, explained that the officials have decided that ornaments from Bhagamandala during the Talacauvery festival can be kept in this strong room at Talacauvery for about a month. Only if the administrative committee takes a decision, the ornaments can be kept permanently in this strong room. But he said that compliance is possible only after receiving instructions from the administrative officers. Meanwhile, steps have been taken to develop the Yatri Nivas building in Bhagamandala for the convenience of tourists. Girish explained that the construction of rooms will be carried out with the present available grant of Rs. 80 lakh.
