TVS Motor rides into Indonesian EV market with locally assembled iQube

TVS Motor
Company has made its entry into Indonesia's electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its flagship e-scooter, the iQube, marking a strategic move to expand its presence across Southeast Asia.
The iQube will be assembled locally at TVS's East Karawang facility, allowing the company to tap into government incentives aimed at promoting domestic EV production. Bookings have opened at an introductory price of IDR 29.9 million (roughly ₹1.6 lakh), positioning the e-scooter as a competitive player in Indonesia's urban mobility segment.
'Indonesia has seen a compounded annual growth of over 100 per cent in its two-wheeler EV market over the last three years,' said James Chan, Senior Vice-President, ASEAN, TVS Motor Company. 'There's strong policy support, and consumer interest is picking up. We believe the iQube, with its proven track record and competitive pricing, fits well into this evolving landscape.'
To support its rollout, TVS is building out its local sales and service infrastructure. The goal, the company says, is to deliver a seamless ownership experience from test ride to after-sales support.
Globally, the iQube has already clocked over 600,000 users, a milestone that TVS believes underlines its reliability and relevance in varied market conditions. 'This launch is not just about entering a new market, it's about bringing a globally trusted product to a new audience,' said Madhu Prakash Singh, Vice President, EV International Business.
The iQube is targeted at city commuters, offering a real-world range of 115 km on a single charge, a top speed of 78 kmph, and quick acceleration from 0–40 kmph in just over four seconds.
As the Indonesian government continues to push for higher EV adoption and local manufacturing, TVS's early bet on localisation could give it a critical edge over import-reliant competitors, particularly as supply chain costs fluctuate and regional regulations tighten.
With the iQube, TVS is betting on more than just a single product. It's placing a long-term wager on Indonesia as a key hub in its broader ASEAN growth plan.

Big humiliation for Turkey's Erdogan as Indonesia..., had claimed about KAAN fighter jet...

New Delhi: Turkey/Turkiye had claimed that the deal with Indonesia has been finalized regarding the KAAN fifth generation fighter aircraft. Along with this, Turkey also said that it is in talks with many countries regarding the KAAN fighter aircraft. But now a big revelation has happened. Indonesia has claimed that it has not yet finalized a deal with Turkey on the KAAN fighter jet. Indonesia's big disclosure on KAAN fighter jet deal Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed in a post on X this month that Indonesia has signed a deal to buy 48 KAAN fighter jets. He had said that KAAN fighter jets will also be manufactured in Indonesia, which will also benefit Indonesia's domestic defense industry. But the Indonesian government has clarified that it has not finalised the deal for the purchase of 48 KAAN fighter jets and the number and terms of the deal are still under discussion. Indonesian newspaper Jakarta Globe has reported that Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Turkish Defence Industry Secretary Haluk Gorgun signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the acquisition of the jets on June 11. But the Indonesian Defence Ministry spokesman has clearly stated in a press conference that the deal has not been signed. Indonesia punctures Turkey's claim Indonesian Defence Ministry spokesman Farega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang has said that 'no number is mentioned in the MoU. The 48 jets mentioned by President Erdogan is just the number of the Indonesian Air Force's needs, not the units ordered.' Apart from this, he has also said that until a legally binding contract is signed, no number or terms can be made public. This statement directly nullifies Turkey's official announcement and shows that Turkey's statement is only to create an atmosphere regarding the KAAN fighter aircraft and to show how many countries of the world are in a race to buy KAAN fighter aircraft. KAAN is Turkey's 5th Generation Fighter Jet, and it is being introduced at a time when many countries are unable to buy American F-35 Lightning II aircraft, especially Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE, which have been repeatedly blocked by the USA over security and technology transfer.

Kandla port congestion may cause edible oil shortage: Traders to Govt

Traders have warned of edible oil shortages in local markets and supply disruptions as several vessels — mainly carrying Indonesian crude palm oil — remain stranded at Kandla Port, awaiting cargo unloading amid 'heavy congestion'. India is the world's largest importer of palm oil, with monthly imports totalling 750,000 tonnes. Kandla is a key port that supplies major refineries catering to western and northern India. In letters to the government, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), representing key stakeholders in the edible oil industry, has said that only two vessels with a combined capacity of 45,000 tonnes are currently discharging cargo, while as many as eight vessels carrying 157,000 tonnes — are waiting for berths. The congestion is particularly concerning as five more vessels, with a total capacity of 159,000 tonnes, are expected to arrive within the next week, it has said. When contacted, Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, told The Indian Express: 'The congestion is the result of a sudden surge in edible oil vessel arrivals after import duties were reduced in May. At present, six edible oil and six chemical vessels are waiting at anchorage. The average waiting time is 8-10 days. We've tightened operational protocols and are working to address the issue as efficiently as possible.' This comes amid sharp fluctuations in palm oil prices. Traders typically increase purchases when prices drop. Last month, India's palm oil imports hit a six-month high, driven by low domestic inventories and a favourable price gap compared to soybean and sunflower oils, Reuters reported. However, palm oil futures have since surged following the US's proposal to raise biofuel blending mandates. The SEA has warned that the waiting period could increase to 15–20 days, based on the expected vessel line-up. Such prolonged delays 'could lead to a scarcity of edible oil in the local market, impacting the supply chain,' it has said. 'The situation has further deteriorated, as Kandla Port has resorted to pulling out edible oil vessels mid-discharge. In the past week alone, three such vessels — each with just 1,000 to 3,000 tonnes of cargo remaining — have been withdrawn or shifted from berths,' the SEA said in a letter to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on June 16, following up on an earlier communication sent on June 11. The congestion has wide-reaching implications as the extended waiting periods are incurring significant demurrage costs, thereby increasing overall import expenses and pushing up edible oil prices for consumers. Jitendra Srivastava, CEO of Triton Logistics & Maritime, said the congestion of shipments at Kandla Port reinforces the need to upgrade India's port infrastructure and optimise maritime logistics at the earliest. 'With vessel wait times reaching up to 48 hours, the ripple effects are felt across the entire supply chain, from exporters to consumers. As trade volumes continue to escalate, there is a pressing need for ports across the country to incorporate smart technologies, automate, and improve berthing and cargo handling capabilities to sustain future demand,' Srivastava said. 'Principal solutions include improved vessel traffic control, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and investment in technological aids such as predictive analytics to enable more effective port flow management. Upgrading berths, modernising the container terminal, and developing warehousing space are equally important to avoid bottlenecks and achieve faster turnaround times,' Srivastava said. 'As per port norms, any vessel pulled out for any reason can only be re-berthed after three days – which, in practice, can take 3-5 days — along with additional port charges for de-berthing, re-berthing, pilotage and other marine services. Meanwhile, the vessel accrues demurrage by the hour and once under demurrage, it continues to incur charges. Ironically, this practice does little to ease the congestion,' SEA said. Total oil imports have fallen over the past seven months. Between November 2024 and May 2025 — the first seven months of the 2024–25 oil year — vegetable oil imports stood at 7,884,768 tonnes, down 9 per cent from 8,678,447 tonnes during the same period last year, SEA noted. CM Orders Gadchiroli Airport Survey, Pushes For Timely Land Acquisition

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday ordered an immediate obstacle limitation surface (OLS) survey for the proposed Gadchiroli airport, directing the district collector to submit a detailed proposal. The instruction came during a high-level review meeting on land acquisition for major infrastructure projects, held in Mumbai. Fadnavis further instructed the runway at Akola Airport to be extended to 2,400m apart from envisioning a modern, large-scale terminal for the city. He emphasised the need for comprehensive planning for air connectivity in Kolhapur, Karad, Akola, Gadchiroli, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Stressing the need for strict adherence to timelines, Fadnavis said, "No project should stall due to land acquisition delays. All agencies must work in mission mode with quality and structured coordination." He cautioned that delays lead to steep cost escalations and insisted that each agency follow the pre-defined schedule meticulously. Fadnavis also reviewed the progress of multiple critical projects, including the Nagpur-Gondia, Nagpur-Chandrapur, and Bhandara-Gadchiroli expressways, directing officials to finalise their alignment using the Gati Shakti portal to ensure minimal forest land diversion. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2 & 3 BHK Homes Near Padur, OMR Starting @ ₹72.50 Lakh* TVS Emerald Undo For the Wardha-Gadchiroli and Wardha-Nanded railway lines, the CM set a 15-day deadline to complete land acquisition.
