Woman Faces Flak For Reel After Air India Crash: ‘Mocking A Tragedy Isn't Bravery'
Last Updated:
A woman, flying with Air India a day after the crash, filmed a reel from inside the aircraft and posted it on social media.
Days after the tragic Air India crash left 272 people dead in Ahmedabad, a woman has posted a video from inside an aircraft and angered the people. The woman, flying with Air India a day after the tragic fall, filmed a reel and posted it on social media. Her actions in the video have sparked backlash.
In the video, she is seen lying down on the seats while wearing a mask. The cabin appears almost empty. The text on the video reads, 'Air India Boeing 787, next day after AI171 crashed." She moves her camera around to show that she is the only passenger on board.
She then adds, 'Are you brave enough to fly in a Boeing?" followed by another line: 'Look, I am already prepared if there is smoke in the cabin." What has angered viewers is her smiling face while recording the video which many felt was inappropriate given the scale of the tragedy.
The caption of her reel reads, 'Flight Air India AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, I am not sure if people are going to trust Boeing! People are likely to talk like the girl in this reel for some time now."
Many people on social media criticised the video. They felt the woman was being insensitive and disrespectful to those who lost their lives.
One user commented, 'What's so funny about this video? Seriously have some respect for those who died."
Another added, 'Attention seeking at its peak. Can't believe people take this as a content and be happy about it."
'Can't believe there are people grinning ear to ear even after witnessing such tragic event," someone else remarked.
A viewer said, 'Good that you got your views sadly, at the cost of basic empathy. While families are grieving, mocking a tragedy for social media clout isn't bravery. It's just tone-deaf."
'Please don't be insensitive like this. I am just blown away with people's mindsets," read another comment while an individual asked, 'Do you think laughing on the plight of people who lost their lives is anywhere funny? How uncultured."
In frustration, a user demanded the post be removed: 'This is a disgusting post. Take it down," read their comment.
The London-bound Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 had 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian passenger on board. Only one person survived the crash. Investigation teams have begun analysing the black boxes recovered from the wreckage to determine the cause of the crash.

Air India plane crash: DNA test confirms Gujarat filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala's death; family 'not ready to believe'
Air India plane crash: What began as a desperate hope for the search for a 'missing' husband, ended up in a tragedy for Gujarat filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala's family after his death was officially confirmed a week after the deadly plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. The confirmation came after DNA test results matched his family's samples. "They were not ready to believe his death," sources aware of the matter told NDTV. Earlier, a burnt Activa scooter belonging to Jirawala was recovered from the site, raising suspicion that he may have been struck by the crashing aircraft. The Gujarati filmmaker's wife had also shared that Jirawala's mobile phone's last known location was 700 m away from the crash site. Naroda-resident Mahesh Kalawadia, also known as Mahesh Jirawala, went to meet someone at Law Garden area on June 12 afternoon. Mahesh Jirawala's wife, Hetal told news agency PTI that her husband had called her up around 1:14 pm, informing her that his meeting was over. At 1:40 pm — a minute after the deadly crash — Jirawala's phone was switched off. Remains of the crashed Air India plane lie on a building, in Ahmedabad "His phone got switched off around 1:40pm. His scooter and mobile phone are missing. All this is unusual since he would never use that route (as per the last location) to come home. We have submitted DNA samples to check if he was one of those killed on the ground due to the crash," said Hetal. A Naroda-resident, Mahesh Kalawadia, also known as Mahesh Jirawala used to direct music albums. Mahesh Jirawala was a well-known name in Gujarat's music and short film circles. His directorial work spanned across various formats, but he was specially recognised for the 2019 Gujarati film Cocktail Premi: Paw of Revenge, which starred Asha Panchal and Vritti Thakkar, mentioned a report by Gujarat Samachar. All but one, aboard the ill fated Air India flight, and 29 others on ground were killed on Thursday, June 12 after the Boeing Dreamliner crashed into BJ Medical College Hostel's mess.

'I support Air India due to biased history with them': Comedian Vir Das deletes post where he supports airline
Actor-comedian Vir Das shared—and later deleted—a post explaining his support for Air India after facing backlash for praising the airline's service shortly after the tragic AI171 crash in Ahmedabad. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Vir recounted his recent journey from the UK to India aboard an Air India flight. Vir tweeted, "I flew Air India home from London. It was all great. The crew, happy to report, still the kindest in the sky. @airindia." A person responded, "The only thing I have to say to whoever came up with this lame PR stunt at @airindia. This is just sad, you're embarrassing yourselves at this point. What did Das post? In a now-deleted tweet, Vir shared that his grandfather worked for Air India. He wrote, "I should clarify. I support the airline because I have very biased history with them. My grandfather worked for Air India. It is an airline with problems, I know. I have flown every circuit and every seat class through my career." Vir highlighted why he believes Air India's service stands out compared to other airlines. "But as someone who is three world tours in and has flown every airline in every country make no mistake….no crew will judge you less, welcome you more, and it's a shame that no one acknowledges their loss too in a tragedy. That warrants my support," he added. Air India crash Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson on Friday reassured the public and employees that the airline's fleet -- particularly its Boeing 787 aircraft -- remains safe to operate following comprehensive checks, and that the carrier is exercising maximum caution in the wake of the AI171 tragedy. Live Events In an official communication, Campbell said, "Have our aircraft been deemed safe? Yes. We have completed the additional precautionary checks on our operating Boeing 787 fleet as requested by the DGCA, who have publicly declared that they meet required standards." "We have also, as a matter of abundant precaution, voluntarily decided to continue additional pre-flight checks for the time being. Where there is any doubt, we will not release aircraft - of any type - for service," said the CEO. The Air India CEO assured the public and employees of continued support and transparency in the aftermath of the AI171 incident, stating that the airline -- and the wider Tata Group -- will stand by the families of victims and affected staff long after the immediate crisis subsides. "We continue to mourn for the lives lost in the AI171 tragedy, and to support those who have been affected. Around 500 colleagues from Air India and 17 other Tata companies remain in Ahmedabad to help the families of passengers, crew and those on the ground. Progress is being made, together with the authorities, on reconciling families with their loved ones, and as of this morning more than 200 have received some degree of solace and closure," he said.
