BBC Strictly's Wynne Evans shares engagement news after huge show heartbreak
BBC Strictly 's Wynne Evans has received huge congratulations after announcing his engagement to long-term partner Liz Brookes. The Welsh tenor disclosed that he had asked for Liz's hand in marriage during a romantic Moroccan getaway.
Sharing the news on social media, Wynne posted: "Big news... I got engaged!" alongside an image showing the glinting engagement ring and the couple celebrating with champagne. Another snap captured the moment Wynne knelt to pose the big question to Liz.
Wynne, 53, penned on social media: "This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz - and she said yes! (No take-backs, I've checked)."
Continuing with humour and affection, he quipped: "She's clever, she's kind, she's got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug."
The well-wishes quickly poured in as reported by the Manchester Evening News, with one person exclaiming: "Congratulations, some happy news after a tough start to the year."
The sentiment was echoed by another who commented: "Aaaaw - lovely news! Congratulations to you both!".
Others expressed their joy, with someone else saying: "So so pleased for you both, everything is on the up." Another added: "Congratulations to you both, lovely news after a challenging year." Lastly, one fan rejoiced: "Absolutely wonderful."
Elsewhere, Wynne has spoken out about his 'spit roast' remark that sparked a Strictly Come Dancing controversy, describing the ordeal as 'heartbreaking'.
In an exclusive with The Sun, the Strictly celebrity insisted he's not a 'misogynist' after apologising for 'inappropriate' language at a photo-call for the Strictly tour earlier this year.
Wynne, famed for his appearances in Go.Compare adverts, was caught on video making sexual comments to a woman during the launch of the Strictly tour.
The BBC Radio Wales host explained that the comment was actually a nickname for his colleague, EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, refuting claims it was a lewd remark aimed at presenter Janette Manrara.
In his conversation with The Sun on Sunday in May, he clarified: "I didn't see the statement. Old Spit-roast Boy was a nickname for Jamie Borthwick. I'm not a bad guy, I'm not a misogynist, I'm not any of these things.
"It's been heartbreaking. 'Spit-roast boy' was a nickname we all gave Jamie Borthwick because he could contort his legs over his head like a spit-roast chicken.
"But it absolutely wasn't meant sexually – and the fact I used 'boy', all right it's nuanced, but it shows I was talking to Jamie, not Janette."
Last month, Wynne disclosed that his annual rolling contract with BBC Radio Wales was not renewed after a four-month probe into the comment.

Sabrina Carpenter's sexuality ISN'T the problem – instead it's those who vilify women
Our columnist Zara Janjua has her say on the debate around Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover ZARA JANJUA Sabrina Carpenter's sexuality ISN'T the problem – instead it's those who vilify women WHAT exactly is a regressive stereotype of a woman? Because judging by the collective societal nosebleed over Sabrina Carpenter's latest album cover — where she's on all fours, hair playfully held by a man, beside the title Man's Best Friend — apparently, it's any woman who dares to be sexual on purpose. Advertisement 2 Zara Janjua doesn't see what all the fuss is about with Sabrina Carpenter's album cover Credit: The Sun 2 The Espresso singer sparked a backlash over her Man's Best Friend album cover Credit: instagram Cue the outrage. Cue the Facebook dissertations. Cue Glasgow Women's Aid calling it 'a throwback to tired tropes' and suggesting it promotes 'violence and control'. I mean, really? This is what sends people into moral convulsions? Advertisement A consenting adult who's posing in a bit of cheeky sub/dom cosplay? The trope I'm personally bored to death with is the pure, respectable, sexless woman. You know, the one whose value peaks just before she hits puberty and plummets the minute she discovers lube. That's the real regressive stereotype. The virgin. The saint. The woman who exists to be wanted but never wants. We've been peddling that fantasy since Eve got blamed for a fruit salad. Women have always been judged and persecuted for their sexuality — from witch trials to lobotomies, FGM to honour killings. Advertisement Meanwhile, men are celebrated for doing the exact same thing. The Weeknd released a whole concept album as a sleazy club predator and was hailed as 'visionary'. Sabrina Carpenter fans only just realising she's a secret nepo-baby with HUGELY famous TV star family member I'm beyond bored of the double standards. And it's everywhere. Notably on TV — where stereotypes and tropes are rampant. When Disney+ brought Jilly Cooper's Rivals to screen last year, they had their chance to modernise the script but they blew it. The lead male — Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell — is deliciously promiscuous, arrogant, entitled, and is allowed to shag everything that moves, cheat on his partners, seduce stable girls and still ride off into the sunset with a young, virginal beauty, triumphant and completely adored. Advertisement But Sarah Stratton, played by Emily Atack, who mirrors Rupert's behaviour? She's a side character. At first, she's the punchline then the villain — calculating, emotionally unstable, and punished for daring to want. Same libido, different ending. One gets the girl. The other gets the boot. And don't even get me started on what Hollywood did to Samantha Jones — sex goddess. Publicist. Icon. In the final season of Sex And The City while Charlotte was enjoying family life with her husband and adopted child, as Miranda found vulnerability and married Steve and Carrie finally got her happily-ever-after with Big . . . Samantha got breast cancer. Advertisement A disease written-in to attack her womanhood and her libido. Even Kim Cattrall said the storyline felt like punishment for her character's rampant sexual appetite and wild lifestyle. Then came And Just Like That, where Samantha was exiled to London and reduced to a 76-second phone cameo. (Yes, I timed it.) Kim Cattrall has confirmed she won't be returning for season three, because, honestly, who wants to be the sexy scapegoat again? And we're supposed to believe Sabrina is the problem? The problem is that we vilify women who express their sexuality or we turn them into a joke. Advertisement And don't come at me with 'What about the kids?' If your teenager's understanding of sex, respect and relationships comes solely from an album cover, that's not Sabrina's fault — that's yours. Maybe we should be teaching young people to talk about consent, fantasy and desire like actual humans, instead of pretending sex doesn't exist and then blaming women when it inevitably does. The backlash isn't about the image. It's about control. People hate when a woman launches herself crotch-first into the world, without shame, without compromise, and without asking if it's OK first.

Ex-England football star Andy Carroll 'is questioned twice by police on Greek party island after restaurant and hotel bust-ups with girlfriend'
Ex-England football star Andy Carroll was questioned twice by Greek police over a series of bust-ups with girlfriend Lou Teasdale while the pair holidayed in Mykonos, it has been reported. Caroll, 36, was interrogated about the arguments with his make-up artist lover in a restaurant and at their hotel on the Greek party island, The Sun on Sunday reports. Speaking about the first incident, a worker at the Nikolus Tavern told The Sun on Sunday: 'He seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. 'He was using very bad words. It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset.' According to the restaurant worker, cops arrived and took the former footballer aside for a chat. He was later allowed to girlfriend Lou. 'Police spoke to him. He was allowed to return, and the couple left after paying for their meal. Andy was very calm when the police arrived — he stood up and spoke to them outside the restaurant', the restaurant worker added. Just hours later, cops were called again by hotel staff following reports of damage in their room, MailOnline understands that the former England striker was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested and no further action was taken. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. That night, Lou left the hotel and spent the night at Soho Roc House. MailOnline has approached Carroll and Teasdale's representatives for comment. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' The pair began dating last year after he separated from his TOWIE star wife Billi Mucklow last September. Carroll and Mucklow called it quits divorce after two years of turbulent marriage, the footballer confirmed last year. Andy Carroll GB Bordeaux during the French National 2 football match Girondins de Bordeaux against Saint-Pryve Saint-Hilaire at the Matmut Atlantique stadium in Bordeaux South West of France on November 9, 2024 In 2022, their wedding was almost called off when Carroll was pictured drunkenly passed out in bed with two women in Dubai on his stag do. Mucklow forgave him after one of the women insisted nothing sexual happened. Less than two years after their nuptials, the couple's marriage was over - with Carroll confirming they had started divorce proceedings after 'a hard few months for our family'. Carroll said in a statement at the time: 'Billi and I have privately separated earlier this year and we are under way with our divorce proceedings'. 'It has been a hard few months for our family and we continue to move forward amicably for our children.' Carroll and Mucklow have three children together Arlo, Wolf, and Marvel Mae and she also raises his two children Emilie Rose, 15, and Lucas, 14 from his past relationship.
