Indonesian president Prabowo to make state visit to Rissia this week for talks with Putin
JAKARTA (Bernama): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be making a state visit to Russia this week for talks with President Vladimir Putin, aimed at elevating bilateral relations between the two countries.
In a statement, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said Prabowo is scheduled to meet Putin in Moscow on June 19 and deliver a keynote speech the following day at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), one of Russia's key economic gatherings.
"The state visit is highly strategic for strengthening the comprehensive partnership between Indonesia and Russia,' he said.
He added that the visit at Putin's invitation comes amid heightened global tensions, and signals Indonesia's intent to play a more active role in global diplomacy.
Prabowo is currently in Singapore for the annual Singapore-Indonesia Leaders' Retreat, where he is holding talks with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Last week, Indonesia's foreign ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat confirmed Prabowo would not attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada, citing a prior commitment to the Russia visit.
He said Prabowo had personally informed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney of his absence and conveyed Jakarta's support for the summit, calling for stronger G7 engagement with non-member states. - Bernama

Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Minda-UKM) deputy director Dr. Anuar Ahmad said that this measure is also believed to help address the educational gap between urban and rural areas, thereby strengthening the national education system. "We realise that financial assistance is very important, especially for schools in rural areas that face a lack of basic facilities and learning materials such as the latest devices, so with additional financial resources, schools can provide a more conducive learning environment. "The industry can also contribute through early career exposure. They can visit schools to give briefings so that students can understand earlier about job opportunities, courses or educational pathways, and the skills needed in the real industry," he told Bernama. Yesterday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced the selection of nearly 1,000 schools for the MADANI School Adoption Programme, implemented in collaboration with 117 private companies, aimed at addressing the education gap across the country. The programme, which started in April, is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the first phase is expected to be completed by Dec 31, with a programme extension subject to the results of the first phase. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the programme's launch event yesterday, also encouraged corporate figures and representatives of the sponsoring companies of the MADANI Adopted School Programme to visit the schools to engage with and provide early exposure to students about the importance of education for their future. Dr Anuar said that the involvement of the corporate company not only strengthened the school's resources and facilities but also increased students' motivation, interest, and aspirations towards learning, and helped them plan their future career paths more clearly and competitively.

Indonesia evacuates 100 citizens from Iran and Israel amid regional tensions
JAKARTA: Indonesia has evacuated 100 of its citizens from Iran and Israel amid rising tensions in the region, Foreign Minister Sugiono, who goes by a single name, said on Saturday. Of those evacuated, 96 individuals — including 93 Indonesian citizens, three embassy staff, and one Iranian national married to an Indonesian — crossed the Iran–Azerbaijan border and arrived safely in Baku. 'They are now resting in Baku after a 16-hour journey. The journey went relatively safely and smoothly, although the border was more crowded than usual,' he said in a video statement released by the ministry from Istanbul. The remaining four Indonesians were evacuated in a separate operation from Israel via Jordan and are reported to be in good condition. Sugiono said the ministry remained in close contact with its nationals in the region and that the first phase of the evacuation had proceeded smoothly. According to the foreign ministry, 386 Indonesian citizens are residing in Iran and 192 in Israel. Sugiono is attending the 51st session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Conference in Istanbul from June 21 to 22, where the situation in Iran and Gaza is expected to feature in discussions. He called for calm and urged all parties to show wisdom and engage in dialogue to seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
