Cong demands inquiry against Tripura University VC and Registrar on recruitment scam

Agartala, June 3 (UNI) Former BJP Minister and incumbent Congress legislator Sudip Roybarman on Tuesday wrote to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan seeking suspension and a high-level inquiry against officiating Vice Chancellor of Tripura University Prof G P Prasain and Registrar Dr Deepak Sharma for an alleged scam in recruitment and high-value purchase.
He also requested Governor of Tripura Indra Sena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to take up the issue with the central government, as VC and Registrar have been working against the interest of the state.
As per law, the executive power of the VC had already been withdrawn three months ago, and the new VC recruitment is in process, but he called interviews for various faculty positions in the Department of Law, Sociology, and Sanskrit department on June 8-9, violating rules, the letter alleged.
'They have flooded Tripura University with underqualified and ineligible outsiders, depriving genuine candidates of Tripura. Most shamefully, VC has recruited his son as an engineer at the university, depriving all bright and brilliant locals. Only 4-5 local students were selected despite fulfilling all norms of eligibility, while more than 30 were given jobs from outside states,' Roybarman mentioned in the letter.
It further alleged that VC and Registrar are distributing teaching jobs to outsiders, and pleaded that all the outsiders are recommended for a job in Tripura by RSS and BJP's top bosses. He questions, 'Even if we bluntly disbelieve their claims, where is the action from the Ministry of Education, PMO, Governor of Tripura, and the Chief Minister?'
While restraining VC from his illegal act of recruitment, suspend him, along with the Registrar, and also constitute a High Level Inquiry Committee with independent authority to ascertain the irregularities and anomalies in the recruitment process in the last year, Roybarman demanded.

Iran's key advisory body denounces Trump's calls for Iranian surrender, says it's not an option

Tehran, June 20 (UNI) Iran's Expediency Discernment Council, a key institution in the country's political structure, has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's remarks on Iran to either surrender or 'face the slaughter', declaring that surrender or accepting imposed peace is not an option, reports Iran International. The administrative advisory body said "Trump and the dreamers of the camp supporting the false Zionist regime must know that the surrender of the great Iranian nation or acceptance of an imposed peace is a futile illusion and an unattainable fantasy." The council reaffirmed the country's resolve to defend its national and ideological principles under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. It criticised Trump's call for an unconditional surrender as irrational and dismissive of Iran's strength. Trump has been considering giving Israel direct US military aid, making Washington an active participant in the ongoing conflict. Iran has warned that any US interference will be met with serious repercussions, and has threatened to block the Hormuz Strait, which is crucial for global maritime trade, controlling over one-third of the world's oil supply. Blocking it could potentially give Iran an unprecedented edge in the conflict, giving it leverage. The Expediency Discernment Council (EDC) is an administrative assembly in Iran appointed by the Supreme Leader, established to resolve conflicts between the Majlis (parliament) and the Guardian Council. It was created in 1988. It plays a major role in formulating macro policies of the Islamic regime, and serves as a mediator between different branches of government and advising the Supreme Leader on key policy matters. Iranian FM condemns Israeli attacks at UN meeting

Geneva, June 21 (UNI) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi condemned Israeli attacks on the country at a United Nations meeting here on Friday. Speaking at the 59th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Araghchi said that Israel has launched "an unprovoked aggression" against Iran. Araghchi is in Geneva for a meeting with his counterparts from Britain, France and Germany, with an EU representative also attending. Araghchi pointed out in his speech at the UNHRC meeting that Israel has been committing "a horrible genocide in Palestine," and now it is waging aggression against Iran. Israel is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, he said. Iran's nuclear facilities have also been targeted, despite their being under monitoring of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Araghchi noted. Such attacks not only constitute a violation of international law, but could also trigger serious radioactive leaks with catastrophic environmental and public health consequences, he added. Araghchi noted that Iran was supposed to meet the United States on June 15 for peaceful resolution of Iran's nuclear issue. The Israeli attacks, he said, represent a betrayal of diplomacy and a blow to the UN system. Shortly before the UNHRC session, Daniel Meron, Israel's permanent representative to the UN Office at Geneva, addressed the media. Meron said that Israel has to act now to eliminate the "existential threat" posed by Iran, stressing that Israel only attacks military objectives and strategic weapons, and that target selection is carried out responsibly and meticulously. In response to the meeting between the Iranian foreign minister and the European officials, Meron said Israel expects the European officials to "take a firm stance" on Iran and demand a complete rollback of the nuclear program, the dismantling of ballistic missile arsenal and program, among others.
