Ghost of Yotei - State of Play announcement trailer
Although Ghost of Yōtei made only a brief appearance at the end of the presentation, it served as a clear reminder that Sucker Punch is actively working toward the game's release. While fans may have been left wanting more, a dedicated showcase in July promises an in-depth look at the title. The upcoming event will focus entirely on Ghost of Yōtei, offering a deep dive into its enhanced gameplay mechanics, including exploration, combat, and beyond.
A new hero in a new era – Respecting the legacy of its predecessor
Unlike the original Ghost of Tsushima, which followed Jin Sakai during the Mongol invasion of Japan, Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new protagonist named Atsu. Set in 1603 Japan, Atsu embarks on a bloody journey through a dramatically shifting historical landscape. Fans of samurai games will appreciate the respect and authenticity the developers are bringing to this sequel, continuing the legacy established in the 2020 hit.
Director Nate Fox has emphasized that Ghost of Yōtei will remain 'a respectful representation' of Japanese culture and history, much like its predecessor. This dedication to authenticity, combined with refined gameplay and new storytelling elements, is set to captivate both returning fans and newcomers alike.
Why could this sequel redefine the genre?
With the growing popularity of open-world and samurai-themed games, Ghost of Yōtei is poised to become one of the defining titles of 2025. The blend of immersive exploration, challenging combat, and rich storytelling aligns with what players expect from a PlayStation exclusive game developed by Sucker Punch Productions.
For those eager to learn more, the July State of Play presentation promises to offer a much closer look at the highly anticipated title. In the meantime, fans can revisit the official June 2025 trailer and keep up with all announcements from today's State of Play.

Death Stranding 2 review roundup: Better in every way
Death Stranding 2 is Kojima Productions's highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 original release, which was Hideo Kojima's first independent project following his departure from Konami. The original game garnered considerable acclaim from outlets such as Gamespot and Easy Allies, but was also a divisive title due to being a dramatic departure from Kojima's earlier pedigree as the creative force behind the Metal Gear series. Close to six years later, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set for release on June 26th, and the review embargo for the release has lifted. The general consensus? The game is a significant step up from the original in every way that matters, with the game getting a Metacritic score of 89 on the PlayStation 5 compared to the original's 85. Death Stranding 2 is hailed as a step up from the original Death Stranding 2 | Reviews5/5 - VGC5/5 - Dexerto5/5 - TechRadar10 - PSLS10 - WellPlayed10 - Press Start10 - Screen Rant10 - Push Square10 - Gaming Nexus9.5 - PSU9.5 - PSX Brasil9 - IGN9 - CGM9 - GamePro7 - Gamespot4/5 - Eurogamer4/5 - GamesRadarMC: 89OC: 92 Death Stranding 2 has gotten strong reviews across a variety of outlets, with IGN's 9/10 review stating it 'vastly improves upon everything Kojima Productions got right the first time while including new features and nuances that enhance the journey.' Eurogamer, which rated the game 4/5, called the game 'busier, louder, and more emotionally resplendent' with author Lewis Gordon noting that while the storyline itself leaned further into the metaphysical mysteries established in the original game, the gameplay was also more heavily influenced by his prior Metal Gear series, specifically Metal Gear Solid V. The Eurogamer review did however, raise the question of whether fans of the original might find the sequel more diluted because of its faster pace and more action-oriented focus, something also reflected in GamesRadar's review which called the title 'more Metal Gear Solid than ever, for better and worse." Death Stranding 2's Metal Gear influences are its biggest strength and weakness Whether or not fans will appreciate Death Standing 2's greater resemblance to Metal Gear looks to be the driving question on whether or not fans will consider the sequel an improvement. While IGN's Sam Cardy considered Death Stranding 2 a strong evolution from the first game's bare-bones combat system, GameSpot's Diego Nicolas was far more critical of how the game offered easier access to high-end equipment and thus, in his opinion, undermined its own core mechanics. Whether or not the Metal Gear influences will be a plus point for most players, Death Stranding 2 remains one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year, and is sure to be talked about well after it hits store shelves.

Blood Message trailer: A reflection of Black Myth Wukong and Ghost of Tsushima, NetEase announces first single-player game
After the exciting PlayStation State of Play event, which announced upcoming games like Astro Bot, First Steps, Ghost of Yotei, 007 First Light, and Nioh 3, among others, another enticing development is taking place in the world of gaming. Developers NetEase Games and 24 Entertainment have just announced a single-player action game titled Blood Message and dropped a 5-minute trailer. This will be NetEase's first ever single-player game. The game is set in the final years of the legendary Tang dynasty of China and follows the story of a nameless protagonist during the 'Dunhuang uprising'. The trailer opens with a shot of our protagonist wading through the desert while a voice in the background talks about the demise of the Tang dynasty. The game most likely is making a reference to the time when the dynasty weakened and lost control of the region of Dunhuang, which was a focal point of communication between China and the rest of the world. The region was fought over many times, and the story of the game seems to be set during one of those rebellions. We see our protagonist trying to rescue his son from the city before the war destroys it. He soon discovers that his son has decided to travel to the Tang capital as part of another uprising. Watch From here the main narrative of the game begins, as we see a glimpse of the fight sequences and the overall world the story is set in. Some movements of the main character seem a bit like Assassin's Creed and Ghost of Tsushima, while the underlying presence of spirituality and belief in a higher someone reminds the viewer of the game Black Myth: Wukong, another game with Buddhist and Taoist folklore rooted deep within its story. The developers have already revealed that even though the game will feature an expansive world, the story in itself is linear in nature. Linear essentially means that while the players will have certain choices which can affect certain outcomes, the overall structure of the game shall remain fixed. No announcements about the release date have been made yet, and NetEase has not informed the audience about the consoles the game will be available on.
