Chicopee teen charged with murder following shooting investigation
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee teenager was arrested and charged with murder following a deadly shooting last Thursday.
Hampden County District Attorney's Office Communications Director Payton North shared that on May 29 at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA's Office received a report of a shooting in Chicopee.
Springfield police investigating deadly weekend shooting
Officers from the Chicopee Police Department were called to 16 Charbonneau Terrace after reports and found an injured man with multiple wounds. Emergency crews performed immediate life-saving measures, but the victim passed away shortly after.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Tre Kingsbury of West Springfield. Detectives arriving at the location were able to identify and arrest 17-year-old Jayshawn Kempton of Chicopee as a suspect connected to the shooting.
On Friday, Kempton was arraigned in Chicopee District Court and charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Kempton is being held without the right to bail and is scheduled in court on June 26 for a pre-trial conference.
The Hampden County District Attorney's Office State Police Detective Unit and the Chicopee Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.

Casa Italiana social club returns to Springfield, bringing Italian Feast back to city
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Reviving the Italian-American heritage in Springfield, dozens of people came together on Friday for the grand opening of the Italian social club Casa Italiana. Celebrating Italian-American heritage and spreading cheer and tradition, a ribbon-cutting took place for Casa Italiana. This social club was originally founded in 1897, the historic home known to many is recognized as the heart and soul of the local Italian community. Springfield Juneteenth Jubilee Committee hosts annual flag raising ceremony 'This is about family, faith, and food,' said Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. 'And now to have this Casa Italiana back to the future, and there's a lot of tradition down here. I remember sweeping the streets at 3:00 a.m. after the feast and the fireworks.' 'They've got a nice group of positive people,' said Rico Daniele, member of the Sons & Daughters of Italy. 'We have 20 members now, we're trying to bring it back like the old days and bring people together.' The club also announced that in a month, the one and only Italian Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will return to the city of Springfield. This will mark the first time in 20 years that the feast will take place, bringing back the 40-foot grease pole competition and traditional food that locals won't want to miss. 'People might remember way back in the day when people went up the pole to get the prosciutto and salami to get that,' said Salvato Circosta, President of Casa Italiana. Two men arrested during street-level enforcement operations in Greenfield
GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two men were arrested in Greenfield during street-level enforcement operations conducted by members of the Northwestern District Attorney's Anti-Crime Task Force. In a news release sent to 22News from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, detectives from state police and Greenfield police with the Northwestern District Attorney's Anti-Crime Task Force made two drug and weapons-related arrests. Holyoke man charged with attempted murder and multiple gun offenses This past Wednesday, officers conducted a traffic stop on Bernardston Road in Greenfield at approximately 10:30 p.m. Ashfield resident, 34-year-old Christopher Gonyea, was arrested and charged with the following: Possession of a Class A substance (Heroin/Fentanyl) Possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) Possession of a Class E substance A traffic stop was conducted on Wells Street in Greenfield on June 3 at around 8:30 p.m. An officer observed drug paraphernalia in a car and, following an investigation, loaded handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine as well as additional ammunition and approximately 79 grams of cocaine.
