Thousands gather to watch RAF Air Show
Thousands of military aviation enthusiasts gathered on Sunday for the RAF Cosford Air Show - the only one of its kind organised by the Air Force.
As well as The Red Arrows, display teams from Ireland, Poland, and the Netherlands took to the skies above the Shropshire base.
Sqn Ldr Dave Kerrison, one of the organisers, said there had been lots to enjoy.
The event was first held in 1978, and has run most years since then.
"Everybody wants to see the Red Arrows [but] we've got quite a lot of flights that are coming in today, so it's going to be a fun-packed day," Sqn Ldr Kerrison said ahead of the event.
He added that as well as air displays, the Air Force would offer a flavour of everything it did, and not just touch upon its history and part in conflicts but highlight its role in humanitarian aid.
Attractions this year included the Great War Display Team performing a dogfight routine in replica British, French and German World War One aircraft. There were also displays by the Royal Navy Black Cats, and Chinook and Apache helicopters.
There was also a display from aerobatics pilot Mélanie Astles, the first woman to take part in the Red Bull Air Race.
The chairman of the Royal Netherlands Air Force Historic Flight André Steur said it was an honour to attend the event.
"The ties [between ourselves and the RAF] are very close and have been for years so when we were asked to come here, we were very glad to honour it," he said.
West Midlands Railway advised that due to a late-notice shortage of crew, there would be limited train services returning from the event.
It said queueing systems would be in place at Cosford and Wolverhampton during busier periods to manage the flow of people.

Château du Clos Lucé: Summerhouse of the French Kings
Remembered primarily as Leonardo da Vinci's home during the last three years of his life, the Château du Clos Lucé now serves as a museum dedicated to his life and work. The Lehe Ledu Liangjiang Holiday Hotel, located in the mountains near Chongqing, offered boarders the option of a 'red panda-themed holiday,' which included bringing the endangered species into guests' rooms for wake-up calls, The Times of London reported. For the morning meet-ups, the adorable, furry critters would be ushered into plush hotel rooms to interact with guests who shelled out for the special treatment. The unique experience flew under the radar of wildlife officials in the Communist country — until a British tourist and YouTuber couple went viral with a panda video from Lehe Ledu. The 'On Tour With Dridgers' video showed an apparent handler lead the well-kept critter into the room and up onto the bed. Content creator Reanne Ridger fed the bushy, red beast a treat and even stole some cuddles during her brief visit, video showed. Even more eyes were drawn to the questionable practice after the publication of a feature article in a popular Chinese magazine, the Times of London reported. However, the publicity also drew the attention of local forestry officials who could barely believe their eyes. Hotel staff told the outlet that they borrowed the pandas from a local zoo. AFP via Getty Images In a statement, Chongqing Forestry Bureau ordered the hotel to immediately halt all 'close contact' between animals and guests and threatened to prosecute the hoteliers for any further infractions, the outlet reported. China's state-backed newspaper The Global Times issued their own scathing report on the panda pandering. Hotel staff told that outlet that they borrow the pandas from a local zoo and rotate which critters are called into work. They further assured that all the red pandas are vaccinated, cleaned, and cared for by dedicated staff, The Global Times reported. 'Close contact' activities have been banned in China since 2018 as the practice was a customary form of income, The Times of London reported. Despite what its name would indicate, red pandas are not bears, but are closely related to raccoons and are a nationally protected wild species in their native China.
