Daspoort tunnel to be closed for weekend maintenance
The Tshwane metro has advised motorists that the Daspoort tunnel will be undergoing maintenance on June 21 and 22.
Bremer Street will be closed between Deborah and Market streets from 08:00 until 16:00 on both days.
Toward the end of April, MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale led a similar effort. The work entailed filling potholes, cleaning stormwater drains and other repairs.
Ward 1 councillor Leon Kruyshaar, who has said that the tunnel is synonymous with several issues, urged motorists to avoid the tunnel this weekend as much as they could.
'Please do not think you can use this tunnel on Saturday and Sunday, it will definitely be closed up. They may allow access in the evening, but I can tell you for sure, not between 08:00 and late afternoon,' Kruyshaar said.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, such as the following:
– Es'kia Mphahlele Drive
– Van Der Hoff Road
– The R80
– N4 Magalies Freeway.
Stakeholders have apologised to residents for the inconvenience.

#TrafficAlert: Parts of N2 and M13 to close for King Cetshwayo bridge demolition

#TrafficAlert: Parts of N2 and M13 to close for King Cetshwayo bridge demolition The N2 between Springfield Park (Umgeni Interchange) and Spaghetti Junction (EB Cloete Interchange) will close in both directions from Saturday night until Monday morning. A further closure will be in place on the M13 between 45th Cutting and Westwood Mall (Essex Terrace Interchange) to accommodate the partial demolition of the King Cetshwayo Bridge, which carries the M13 over the N2. Both closures will be in place simultaneously from 6pm on Saturday, June 21, until 4am on Monday, June 23. 'Construction continues on the upgraded King Cetshwayo Bridge, following its partial demolition in October 2023,' said SANRAL's Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer, Jason Lowe. 'This closure is part of the ongoing upgrade process for the N2 and the EB Cloete Interchange, aimed at relieving congestion and improving road safety along this critical national route.' Motorists are urged to plan for alternative routes during the closure. Full Closure Locations N2 Closure Locations (at EB Cloete Interchange): N3 West Bound (Durban to Pinetown): Ramp to N2 North closed (towards Umhlanga/King Shaka International Airport). N3 East Bound (Pinetown to Durban): Ramp to N2 North closed. N2 Northbound: Closed between EB Cloete Interchange and Umgeni Road Interchange. N2 Closure Locations (at Umgeni Road Interchange): N2 Southbound: Closed between Umgeni Road Interchange and EB Cloete Interchange. Detour onto M19/Umgeni Road. M19 East and West Bound: Ramps to N2 South closed. M13 Closure Locations (King Cetshwayo Bridge Area): M13 East Bound: Closed at Essex Terrace Interchange (near Westwood Mall). M13 West Bound: Closed at 45th Avenue (also known as 45th Cutting). 'We understand that these road closures cause major travel disruption so we have minimised the length of the closures and planned them to take place at times when the traffic disruption will be at its least,' said Lowe. 'Trucks and heavy vehicles are advised to try and delay trips over this period, find suitable staging areas or reroute via the M4, M7 or M19 to avoid congestion. Public transport operators are asked to ensure their drivers are aware of route closures and alternatives affecting their commuter routes.' Find a full list of alternative routes here. 6 coastal walks in the Western Cape with breathtaking views

The Western Cape isn't short on drama when it comes to scenery. Jagged cliffs, turquoise waves, and mountain backdrops combine for some of the most spectacular coastal walks in South Africa. From Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay, the scenery along those walks is something you'll never forget! So, whether you're chasing solitude, sea spray, or the perfect Instagram shot, here are six unmissable walks where the views do all the talking… Distance: 6.5km return Duration: 2–3 hours This is not the drive – it's the hike above it. The Chapman's Peak Trail is lesser-known but punches well above its weight in beauty. The path climbs steadily through fynbos-covered slopes to a summit with panoramic views over Hout Bay, the Atlantic, and the winding road below. Sunset here? Unbeatable. Robberg Nature Reserve. Image: canva Distance: 2km (short loop) to 9.2km (point-to-point full loop) Duration: 30 minutes to 4 hours This rugged peninsula trail is a showstopper. Sheer cliffs, seal colonies, prehistoric caves, and turquoise coves come one after the other. The full loop is a challenge, with scrambles and steep climbs, but the raw beauty and crashing surf along this coastal walk make it worth every step. Distance: 8km return Duration: 2.5–3 hours Often overlooked, this walk through the Kogelberg Biosphere combines indigenous forest, waterfalls, and crashing surf. The trail skirts cliffs and tidal pools, and offers regular sightings of dassies, seabirds, and even whales during season. It's peaceful, raw, and unforgettable! Cape Point lighthouse walk. Image: canva Distance: 2km return Duration: 30–45 minutes Short, steep, and scenic, this coastal walk leads up to the old Cape Point lighthouse with uninterrupted views over two oceans. It's a tourist hotspot, yes – but with good reason. For a quieter option, take the less-travelled Lighthouse Keeper's Trail that hugs the cliffs below. Distance: Around 5.5km return Duration: 1–1.5 hours Urban but iconic, the Sea Point Promenade is a flat, easy coastal walk with nonstop views of the Atlantic Ocean, Signal Hill, and Lion's Head. Walkers, runners, dogs, and cyclists share this stretch, and there's public art, coffee stops, and even outdoor gyms along the way. Sunsets here are next level. De Hoop Whale Trail. Image: canva Distance: Around 5km (from Potberg to Cupidoskraal section) Duration: 1.5–2 hours The full Whale Trail is a five-day trek, but even the first section gives you a taste of its wild beauty. Walk through renosterveld and coastal cliffs with the sound of surf in your ears. From June to November, expect whale sightings galore. Booking is essential for the full trail, but day hikes are possible with a permit. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
