Hyderabad: Five students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh secured a spot in the top-20 rankers list in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025, the results of which were released on Monday.
The IIT-Hyderabad zone, comprising the two Telugu states apart from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, saw 23 candidates figure in the top 100 rank holders bracket.
A total of 12,946 students from this zone qualified in the examination.
Hyderabad boy Arnav Singh secured an All-India Rank (AIR) 9, while Vadlamudi Lokesh from AP clinched AIR 10. The other three students in the top 20 were: Dharmana Gnana Rutvik Sai (AIR 18), Vangala Ajay Reddy (AIR 19), and Avanaganti Anirudh Reddy (AIR 20).
All toppers said they want to pursue B Tech programme in computer sciences from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B).
"I have been interested in engineering since I was 12. I always wanted to study computer science, and I am very happy that I can now fulfil my dream," an elated Lokesh told TOI. The teenager, son of an NGO employee from Vijayawada, said he started preparing for the exam from Class 7 and had been staying away from his family — at a residential coaching centre in Hyderabad — for the last six years.
The two states also threw up several category toppers. While Ajay emerged as all-India topper in the General-Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category, Rutvik stood at the top of the charts in the OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer) category. Korikana Rasagnya, who secured AIR 78 was the female topper from the state.
"I regret making some silly mistakes in the exam. Else, I would have definitely secured a spot in the top 5.
However, I am happy that I am the topper in the General-EWS category," said Ajay, a resident of Kurnool, who has been living in Hyderabad since Class 9.
Many students who secured ranks from the other zones are also students of the two corporate colleges – Narayana Group and Sri Chaitanya Group — that have their main campuses in the Telugu states.
Meanwhile, students from social and tribal welfare and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Telangana also performed well, especially in the SC and ST categories. While G Soniya from EMRS secured AIR 63 in the ST category, N Shiva from the tribal welfare society clinched the AIR 95 position in the same category.

This is the only weapon that could take out the Fordow nuclear plant. File image/AP When the United States sought to hit Iran's most secure nuclear enrichment site at Fordow, it went with the most obvious choice of Bunker Buster bombs that can only be carried by the B-2 Bombers. These stealth bombers are only housed at one facility in the US– the Whiteman Air Force Base. Here's a look at what we know about the base. Home to 509th Bomb Wing Sixty miles southeast of Kansas City, amid the rolling, wooded hills of west-central Missouri, Whiteman Air Force Base serves as a key military installation with unique strategic significance. The B-2 Spirit bombers operated by the 509th Bomb Wing can deliver both nuclear and conventional munitions, providing unmatched flexibility and reach in strategic bombing and deterrence missions. This dual capability allows the United States to project air power rapidly to virtually any location worldwide, supporting a range of military strategies. Critical to the US nuclear triad Whiteman Air Force Base is integral to the US nuclear triad, offering a credible and resilient nuclear deterrent designed to influence adversaries' decision-making and enhance national security. Croc seen in Powai lake, right behind IIT-B hostel

Mumbai: A local nature lover and Save Powai Lake activist recently spotted and photographed a crocodile at the lakeside, behind hostel 17 of the IIT-Bombay campus. The green activists have once again urged the civic body to fully clean Powai Lake to safeguard the biodiversity at this water body. Photographer Ramesh Kamble, with his Instagram handle posted a video of the crocodile observed behind the IIT-B hostel, which has created considerable interest among activists. NatConnect Foundation, which, along with local resident groups, is running a campaign to clean up and conserve the wetland, called for a census of the crocodiles in the lake. "There were supposed to be 18 crocodiles present in the lake as per a study done a few years ago, but a fresh crocodile count should be done now," NatConnect director B N Kumar said. Environmentalist D Stalin noted, "Besides water pollution at Powai lake, it is observed that the basking and nesting sites of crocodiles here are severely disturbed due to human activities. A new 5-star hotel building has been constructed near the lake, while IIT has also installed metal grills to stop crocscoming into their campus. I have earlier mentioned this to BMC."
