Labuan Regatta Race Sets Sail With 55 Sailors As LISC Enters Day Four

LABUAN, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Labuan International Sea Challenge (LISC) 2025 reached new momentum today as the much-anticipated Regatta International Race 2.0 officially kicked off, drawing 55 competitive sailors to the waters off the Labuan International Sea Sport Complex.
Labuan Corporation (LC) Department of Tourism and Culture director Mahathir Abd Hamid said the three-day regatta, which runs until April 27, is among the key highlights of the six-day LISC event and offers a total of RM29,080 in cash prizes.
He said the race is contested across four divisions with 10 competitive categories, including the popular windsurf open division.
"This event not only showcases Labuan's maritime sporting culture but also reflects our commitment to strengthening tourism through high-impact activities.
'We are proud to welcome participants from Brunei, Putrajaya, Sabah, Sarawak as well as our very own Labuan," he told Bernama after the flag-off ceremony on the beachfront.
Mahathir said now in its 27th edition, the LISC has steadily grown into one of Malaysia's premier sea sports festivals.
He said besides the regatta, the annual challenge features the ongoing international deep-sea fishing, kayaking, beach silat, and other sea-based competitions, drawing thousands of visitors and participants from across the country.
'The regatta, in particular, is known for testing sailors' endurance, skill, and coordination as they navigate unpredictable coastal winds and currents.
'Among the sailors are seasoned athletes (of Sukma 2024 athletes) and youth competitors, bringing a mix of experience and fresh energy to the event,' he said.
