Riyadh to host occupational safety talks in May
RIYADH: The 7th Global Occupational Safety and Health Conference will be held in Riyadh from May 4 to 6, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
The event will gather local and international leaders from governments, the private sector, and academia, to discuss the future of occupational safety and health, as well as challenges and opportunities in global labor markets.
The conference aims to promote a culture of safety by fostering dialogue on the latest trends, innovations, and best practices while sharing essential knowledge, the SPA reported.

It will focus on developing policies and preventive measures to enhance occupational safety and health, with an emphasis on the role of technology in improving workplace environments.
Saudi Arabia's Human Resources and Social Development Minister Ahmed Al-Rajhi said: 'The conference will address critical issues impacting work ecosystems and work on developing optimal frameworks.'
Al-Rajhi highlighted the event as a milestone in advancing global dialogue on occupational safety and health and improving compliance with standards at regional and global levels.

Saudi Arabia's Al-Junaidi Becomes 1st Arab to Chair IMSO Advisory Committee
Engineer Kamal Al-Junaidi, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), made history by chairing the 51st session of the Advisory Committee of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), held from June 9 to 13, 2025. He is the first Arab to assume this role—marking a significant milestone for both Saudi Arabia and the Arab world in global maritime governance. Al-Junaidi's leadership of the IMSO Advisory Committee underscores the Kingdom's prominent role in international maritime institutions and its commitment to enhancing maritime communication and safety systems. In his role, he facilitated discussions and guided deliberations among member states, working to build consensus on critical matters. Moreover, these included oversight of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), the implementation of Long Range Tracking and Safety (LRTS) standards, and the auditing processes of satellite communication service providers. He also led discussions on proposed amendments to maritime safety regulations, monitored IMSO's strategic alignment with IMO standards, and presented the committee's recommendations to the General Assembly for final approval. The 51st session, held at IMO headquarters in London, brought together representatives from 44 countries. Finally, over the five-day meeting, participants addressed a range of pressing issues affecting the global maritime sector. 3-month ban on midday outdoor work in Saudi Arabia from June 15
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has announced a three-month ban on outdoor work between noon and 3 p.m. for all private sector establishments, effective from June 15 to Sept. 15. The ministry said employers must ensure workers avoid direct exposure to the sun during this period and urged them to adjust working hours accordingly, with the goal of reducing occupational injuries and health risks. The regulation, issued in cooperation with the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, aims to protect workers' health and promote a safer working environment, the Saudi Press Agency reported. To support implementation, the ministry has published a procedural guide on preventing sun exposure and an advisory guide for working in hot environments. Both are available on its website. Violations can be reported via the ministry's hotline — 19911 — or its smartphone app.
