Egypt's Unemployment Rate Drops to 6.4% in Q4

Taarek Refaat
Egypt's unemployment rate fell to 6.4% in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to 6.7% in the previous three-month period. This was the lowest rate on record, with the number of unemployed individuals falling by 29,000 (-1.3%) to 2.13 million, while employment opportunities rose by 935,000 (+3.1%) to a new record high of 30.99 million.
Unemployment among men fell to 3.9% in the fourth quarter, compared to 4.2% in the third quarter, while the rate among women fell to 16.6% from 18.2%.
Finally, youth unemployment (ages 15-29) reached 64.6% of the total unemployed population, slightly lower than the 65.7% rate in the third quarter of 2024.
Most of Egypt's public and private sector workforce holds a bachelor's degree, which, if completed in four years, graduates at age 21. After that, most men apply to join the military, a requirement that takes approximately eleven months, meaning that young men aged 22-23 cannot join the workforce until after this. Others who fail to graduate are required to complete three years of duty.
In Egypt, the unemployment rate measures the number of people actively seeking work as a percentage of the labor force. Egypt's unemployment rate fell to 6.40% in the fourth quarter of 2024 from 6.70% in the third quarter of 2024.
US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, has raised eyebrows in Cairo. While some viewed it as a "threat and veiled warning" to the country, others saw it as containing "harsh language" in an attempt to signal that "Egypt cannot be allowed to lose."
Witkoff's remarks about Egypt came in response to a question about the impact of the situation in the Gaza Strip on neighboring countries and whether this was a cause for concern. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, posted on YouTube, Witkoff said, "Egypt is at the forefront... and I think all the good things that happened after the elections because of the elimination of Nasrallah and Sinwar could be reversed if we lose Egypt."
He explained, "The data in Egypt indicates a huge unemployment rate, around 45%. A country like this cannot continue. They (the Egyptians) are very broke and need a lot of help." He added, "If something bad happens in Egypt, it could push us backward... and that's why we have to solve the Gaza issue."
Media professionals and activists on social media circulated Witkov's statements, criticizing his comments about Egypt and demanding an official response to the "misleading" information and "veiled threats and warnings" he contained.

Iranian Missile Carrying 26 Smaller Warheads Causes Widespread Damage in Israel

Taarek Refaat A recent Iranian missile strike has resulted in extensive damage over a large area, with reports confirming that the missile carried 26 smaller warheads. The attack has caused destruction within a radius of several hundred meters from the impact site, according to local sources and initial assessments. The missile, which was reportedly launched from Iranian territory, has raised significant concerns about the increasing volatility in the region, especially amid ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel. Experts suggest that the missile's payload, consisting of multiple smaller warheads, was designed to maximize the area of impact, causing widespread damage to both infrastructure and civilian areas. While details on casualties remain unclear, the scale of the damage is evident, with numerous buildings and structures suffering heavy destruction. Local emergency teams have been deployed to the affected areas to provide assistance and assess the extent of the damage. The missile strike marks a further escalation in the already tense situation, as the geopolitical rift between Israel and Iran continues to deepen. Analysts fear that such attacks could lead to even more significant military responses, further destabilizing the region. As the situation develops, international diplomatic efforts are underway to address the rising tensions and avoid further escalation of military actions. #اسرائيل_سقطت 🔥 #الحرب_بدأت_الان — عبدالله جعفر (@AbdoallahJafar) June 20, 2025 read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Massive Crowds Rally in Tehran to Show Solidarity, Denounce Israeli Aggression

Taarek Refaat Millions of Iranian citizens flooded the streets of central Tehran, joining together for a powerful demonstration of solidarity and resistance following recent Israeli aggression against the country. The event, which began with Friday prayers at Tehran University, morphed into a mass rally filled with intense expressions of anger and defiance. العاصمة الإيرانية طهران تشهد مسيرات ضخمة تحت شعار "جمعة الغضب والنصر" #حدث_وشارك — قناة العهد (@ahadtv) June 20, 2025 According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the prayers at Tehran University saw a sea of worshippers, many coming from various parts of the capital to affirm their unwavering support for the Islamic Republic, its leadership, and the Iranian Armed Forces. The surrounding streets were lined with individuals eager to stand in unity, reflecting their deep frustration with what they see as a continued assault on the nation's sovereignty. The march was not only a display of anger but also a declaration of enduring solidarity with the Iranian government. The crowd's chants also included "The blood in our veins is for our leader," underscoring the devotion to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and a message of unyielding loyalty to the nation's leadership in the face of foreign aggression. As the march progressed through the streets, the demonstrators reiterated their condemnation of Israel's actions, which they claim have led to the death of innocent civilians, particularly women and children. Their resolve was further solidified by claims of ongoing military victories by the Iranian Armed Forces, which have been engaged in conflict with Israel and its allies. "This is not just a protest. This is a statement that no matter what happens, our unity and resistance against the Zionist regime will remain strong," said one of the participants, a Tehran resident. The rally, which extended beyond Tehran, also saw large numbers of people gathering in cities across Iran. They celebrated the strength of the Iranian military and affirmed their commitment to the struggle, expressing confidence that the government and armed forces would continue to protect their land from external threats. The scale of the demonstration reflects the deep national sentiments surrounding the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, and the Iranian government's unyielding stance against Israel's policies. The country's leaders have long called for resistance against Zionism, with these large-scale events serving as a reminder to the international community of Iran's position on the matter. As the demonstrations continue to unfold, Iran's commitment to resisting perceived foreign interference remains as strong as ever, with millions of Iranians standing firm in their support for their nation's sovereignty and security. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Three Dead, 14 Rescued from Rubble following Building Collapse in Cairo's Hadaeq Al Qubbah

Taarek Refaat In a tragic incident on Friday, three people lost their lives while 14 others were pulled alive from the wreckage after two buildings collapsed in Cairo's Hadaeq Al Qubbah district. Emergency rescue operations continue as authorities work tirelessly to locate any remaining survivors. According to a statement from the Cairo Governorate, civil defense teams spent more than seven hours combing through the debris to successfully rescue a young girl, who was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Her rescue raised the number of survivors to 14. استخراج فتاة صغيرة بعد أكثر من 7 ساعات تحت أنقـ ــاض عقـاري حدائق القبة — مصراوي (@masrawy) June 20, 2025 As of now, three bodies have been recovered from the collapsed buildings, with search efforts still ongoing. The buildings, one of which consisted of a ground floor and five stories, had been unoccupied, while the other had four floors. Additionally, another building was evacuated as a precautionary measure until its structural safety could be confirmed. The Cairo Governorate's National Emergency and Public Safety Network, along with the Central Operations Room, were immediately alerted to the collapse. Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber arrived on-site, accompanied by emergency services, medical teams, and security forces, to supervise the search and rescue operations. "Efforts are still underway to ensure no more individuals are trapped beneath the rubble," the governorate said in a statement. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, though authorities are working closely with engineering teams to assess the stability of nearby buildings. As the city mourns the loss of life, emergency teams continue to search with hope, determined to find any additional survivors. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the challenges faced by urban infrastructure in rapidly growing cities, where building safety and regulations remain critical for preventing such tragedies. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
