Iranian Missile Falls Near Microsoft Office in Israel
Taarek Refaat Israeli media reported that an Iranian missile fell in the city of Be'er Sheva, injuring 18 people, according to initial reports. The footage showed a Microsoft building, reflecting Tehran's repeated statements about targeting scientific and intelligence centers and headquarters affiliated with or working for the Israeli military. Videos circulated on social media showing fires in the areas where the rockets landed, including Beersheba, Nevatim, and Rahat, in addition to the burning of several cars parked in the area. An Israeli military spokesperson stated: "The IDF identified missile launches from Iran toward Israel a short while ago, and defense systems are working to intercept the threat. Citizens should head to protected areas and remain there until further notice." After assessing the situation, the Israeli Home Front Command announced that it was permissible to leave protected areas, noting that search and rescue units were operating at the site of the missile strike, stressing the need for the public to continue following security instructions. In this context, the Israeli military announced, in the early hours of Friday morning, that it had intercepted three Iranian drones en route to Israeli territory, amid escalating military tensions between the two sides. In contrast, former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohsen Rezaei confirmed that Iran has so far launched more than 400 missiles and 600 drones toward Israel as part of ongoing military operations. Rezaei added, in statements reported by Iranian media, that his country has used less than 30% of its actual military capabilities, while the potential use rate is only about 5%. Rezaei revealed the existence of new missile capabilities that will be announced soon, noting that naval and land capabilities have not yet been used in the confrontation. Iran Launches 3 Missiles toward Dimona Nuclear Plant in Israel
Taarek Refaat Three missiles are heading toward the Dimona reactor in southern Israel as part of the latest wave of Iranian attacks on Israeli territory, according to El Qahera News, citing Iranian media. Also, the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported that Iran launched a hypersonic missile targeting Israel's Dimona nuclear facility and a major defense headquarters. If confirmed, this alleged strike would represent a significant escalation in regional tensions, raising fears of a wider conflict. Israeli media reported on Friday that the latest wave of Iranian attacks targeting sites in southern Israel has resulted in 18 injuries so far. Social media accounts circulated a video clip of a building in Beersheba, southern Israel, believed to belong to Microsoft, surrounded by smoke after being hit by an Iranian missile on Friday morning. On the other hand, Iranian media announced that it had launched a new wave of missiles a short while ago, targeting several sites in southern Israel, specifically in the Negev and Beersheba. On Thursday morning, Iranian missiles went near Soroka Hospital in the Negev and several other sites inside Israel, causing widespread destruction and material damage. The military escalation between Iran and Israel is entering its eighth day. Egypt Rises to 9th Globally in FDI Inflows amid Record $47 Billion Surge
Taarek Refaat Egypt has made a dramatic leap in the global investment landscape, ranking 9th worldwide in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows for 2024, according to the World Investment Report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). FDI into Egypt surged to $47 billion last year, up from just $10 billion in 2023—catapulting the country from 32nd place to the top 10 globally. The report credits this extraordinary 373% increase primarily to mega-deals and landmark projects, particularly the Ras El Hekma coastal development initiative. The United States retained its position as the world's leading destination for FDI, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Luxembourg, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. Egypt was the only African and Arab country to appear in the global top 10. A joint statement by Egypt's Ministries of Investment, Planning, and International Cooperation—released in collaboration with UNCTAD—highlighted the broader regional momentum, noting that FDI to Africa rose by 75% in 2024, reaching $97 billion, up from $55 billion in 2023. Egypt led the continent in FDI growth, followed by Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Mozambique, and Uganda. Despite Egypt's exceptional performance, the UNCTAD report paints a more cautious global picture: total FDI flows worldwide fell by 11%, from $1.67 trillion in 2023 to $1.5 trillion in 2024. This decline was driven largely by a 22% drop in FDI to advanced economies, amid rising geopolitical tensions and tighter monetary policies. Developing countries managed to maintain stable inflows overall, while the least developed countries (LDCs) saw a 9% increase, signaling selective resilience. Interestingly, the number of new investment projects worldwide increased slightly by 3%, reaching 19,356, suggesting that while capital volumes are down, investor appetite for greenfield projects remains intact. Economists say Egypt's performance reflects a broader strategic shift toward large-scale, state-backed development projects aimed at transforming the country into a regional investment hub.
