Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie donates $50M to autism center
June 10 - With a $50 million donation to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Penn Medicine on Tuesday, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie announced the creation of the Lurie Autism Institute in Philadelphia.
"This first-of-its kind Institute aims to be a global hub for autism research that connects scientists, clinicians, families, students, and donors," per an Eagles press release.
According to the release, Lurie's single donation is the largest toward autism research made to U.S. hospitals.
The Lurie family has supported autism research going back to 1977, when Lurie's mother founded the Nancy Lurie Marks Family Foundation. That foundation led to the establishment of the The Lurie Center for Autism at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 2009.
In 2018, Jeffrey Lurie started the Eagles Autism Foundation, which has raised more than $40 million, including over $10 million in 2025.

'About six months ago, I was driving when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my chest that radiated down my arm,' she explained in her caption. 'As women, we tend to ignore aches and pains, brushing them off as part of everyday life- but this felt different,' remembered Dolores. 'After that, I started experiencing frequent flutters in my chest, sometimes waking me up at night. Eventually, I got scared enough to call my cardiologist,' she wrote. 'He gave me a heart monitor to wear, and within hours, he called to tell me I had AFib (atrial fibrillation). He referred me to an electrophysiologist, who confirmed the diagnosis,' added the New Jersey-born reality star. 'He told me, 'You're not the same girl I met two years ago when you came here with Paul.' Some of you may remember that my boyfriend, Paul Connell, was diagnosed with WPW (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome) and also needed an ablation.' Dolores offered a word to the wise to her fans: 'I'm sharing this because I want you to listen to your body. That racing or fluttering in your chest you feel doing simple tasks during the day- that's your body trying to tell you something. DON'T IGNORE THIS. AFib increases your risk of stroke or heart attack.' She crowed: 'I'm not 6 weeks out and back to myself! I'll be off all medication soon, and I haven't had any episodes since the procedure.' Dolores urged readers not to 'wait' as their 'heart health is not something to take lightly,' adding that she 'was truly in the best of hands' with her doctors and encouraging her public: 'Take care of yourself you deserve it!!' She began dating Paulie four years ago after they met in line at an Apple Store, and the pair have been living together for the bulk of that time. Her surname comes from her ex-husband Frank Catania, whom she was married to from 1994 to 1998, during which time they welcomed two children. How eating strawberries each day could help keep dementia at bay
The arrival of the first British strawberries of the year is always a treat. But now scientists have shown that as well as satisfying our tastebuds, they could help to ward off dementia too. Research has revealed that the fruit can boost the speed at which older people's brains process information. Age-related decline in cognitive processing speed is known to be a symptom of dementia – a disease which affects nearly 900,000 in the UK. The findings come as Britain prepares to enjoy one of its best strawberry crops in years. Shoppers have been told to expect giant berries twice the normal size after weeks of dry, sunny weather boosted growth. This is welcome news for a country which consumes a whopping 168,000 tons a year. Previous research has already shown that the chemicals known as flavonoids which strawberries contain can bolster heart health. And in the latest study, a team from San Diego State University in the US recruited 35 men and women in their 70s to see if the same effects could be seen in the brain. The scientists gave participants a freeze-dried strawberry powder, made with a handful of fresh berries, to mix in water and drink every day for eight weeks. They then repeated the experiment with a fruit-flavoured powder which contained none of the health-boosting ingredients found in strawberries. Researchers then got the volunteers to perform cognitive tests. They found a marked improvement in the brain's processing speed following consumption of the strawberry powder but little change with the fruit drink. Although there was little improvement in scores for memory tests after consuming strawberries, researchers said the change in processing capacity was significant. Slower processing speed is known to hamper people's driving skills and make financial decisions more difficult. The strawberries also helped to lower blood pressure and led to increased levels of disease-fighting antioxidants in the blood, the results published in journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases showed. The researchers said: 'Strawberry consumption may improve cognitive function and there is accumulating support for its effects on brain health.'
