Bubba Watson among 7 LIV golfers to WD from U.S. Open qualifier

June 2 - Bubba Watson was one of seven players tied to LIV Golf that opted to withdraw from a U.S. Open final qualifying site on Monday in Rockville, Md.
Monday is the final day of U.S. Open qualifying, often billed as "the longest day in golf," as players at 10 sites across North America play 36 holes to compete for the final spots in the major championship field.
A number of LIV Golf members signed up to play at the Woodmont Country Club qualifying site before the league plays outside Washington, D.C., later this week.
Watson opted not to move forward with the qualifier, joined by Ben Campbell of New Zealand, David Puig of Spain, Matt Jones of Australia, Thomas Pieters of Belgium and Englishman Lee Westwood.
Additionally, Australia's Wade Ormsby, a reserve who has appeared in two LIV events in 2025, dropped out.
Not all LIV players decided to skip out, of course. Marc Leishman of Australia shot a 1-under-par 70 in his first 18 holes. Brendan Steele and India's Anirban Lahiri were in the mix after even-par 71s.
However, only the top four players at the site will qualify for the major, slated for June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh.
Several of LIV's most prominent players are already in the U.S. Open field. Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Spaniard Jon Rahm are invited as U.S. Open winners from the past 10 years; DeChambeau is the defending champion.
Englishman Richard Bland was invited after winning the 2024 U.S. Senior Open. A pair of other recent major winners -- Phil Mickelson (2021 PGA Championship) and Cameron Smith (2022 Open Championship) -- are exempt as well.
Sergio Garcia of Spain fell one stroke shy of a playoff at a final qualifying site last month in Dallas.

Lee finished with a 72-hole four-under 284 total to deny fast-finishing American Auston Kim (68) and Thai Chanetee Wannasaen (68) improbable comeback victories at the third women's major of the year. In adding to her 2021 Evian Championship triumph and 2022 US Open success, Lee completed the third leg of women's golf's fabled grand slam to edge ever closer to a place in the sport's Hall of Fame. The British Open and Chevron Championship are the only two majors to elude Lee. Just as significantly, Lee joined legends – and fellow females – Karrie Webb and Jan Stephenson as only the third Australian golfer in history to win three different major championships. With three majors, Lee also surpassed the great Greg Norman and David Graham on Australia's all-time majors winning list. It's just extra special that I could win in front of them and obviously wherever Min is, he's supporting me out there. 'He's a social media nut so he's all on top of that, so it is really cool. 'And obviously my dad's back in Oz – I don't know what time it is there – but he's tuning in and they've always got my back, so it's really nice and it's great support and unconditional.'

Bradley overhauls Fleetwood on final hole to win Travelers Championship

The US Ryder Cup captain, Keegan Bradley, birdied the final hole of the Travelers Championship and soared past England's Tommy Fleetwood to win the tournament in a stunning finale in Cromwell, Connecticut. Tommy Fleetwood denied first PGA Tour win on last hole at Travelers Championship

Tommy Fleetwood suffered a heart-breaking one-shot defeat at the final hole of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut as American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley denied the Englishman a maiden PGA Tour victory. Fleetwood had been defending a three-shot lead following his flawless 63 on Saturday, sitting at 16 under par ahead of Bradley and Russell Henley. However, a couple of early bogeys threatened to derail his bid to end his record of the most top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour since 1983 without claiming a title. The 34-year-old, though, steadied himself around the turn to edge back ahead of Bradley with birdies at the 11th and 13th. Having found a path on the right of the 15th before going on to save par, Fleetwood looked to be on course once again – only to drop another shot at the 16th. Fleetwood then came up short of the green with his second shot on the 18th. Spurred on by a partisan home crowd, Bradley promptly sent his follow-up to within a few feet. Fleetwood's birdie attempt fell short just behind Bradley's marker, with the Englishman then missing his par putt, having to settle for a bogey and a two-over final round. The American – who could yet qualify as a playing captain at Bethpage Black in September – then nervelessly rolled in a birdie to finish at 15 under, sparking wild celebrations around the 18th green. 'I feel like from where I was, I should at least be in a play-off,' Fleetwood said. 'I didn't really feel like I hit that many bad shots execution-wise, just sort of a couple of bad decisions and didn't clean 'em up, which is pretty poor and things that I have to work on.' Fleetwood added: 'I haven't been in this situation for a while. When it sort of calms down – I am upset now, I am angry – but when it calms down, I will look at the things that I did well and look at the things that I can learn from. 'I did plenty of things well enough this week to win, but I didn't do that and it hurts.' Henley chipped in from the edge of the green on the 18th to secure a tie for second with Fleetwood at 14 under. Harris English and Australian Jason Day finished at 13 under in a tie for fourth. World number one Scottie Scheffler and Masters champion Rory McIlroy both shot five-under-par final rounds to get to 12 under and finish in a share of sixth place. Newly-crowned US Open champion JJ Spaun had the best round of the day, starting off at the 10th, as he carded a seven-under 63 to climb up into the top 15. Viktor Hovland had earlier withdrawn on the third hole of his final round because of a neck injury.
