Moroccan Neil El Aynaoui Delivers Last-Minute Victory for Lens Against Marseille

Morocco World09-03-2025

Rabat – Neil El Aynaoui delivered a moment of brilliance for RC Lens on Saturday night, scoring a dramatic last-minute goal to secure a vital 1-0 win over Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.
With the match nearing its conclusion and both teams locked in a tense battle, the 23-year-old midfielder found the back of the net in the 94th minute, earning his team all three points and ending a four-match losing streak.
El Aynaoui, who has been in excellent form recently, spoke with pride about the team's performance after the match.
Despite being without several key players due to injury, Lens showed resilience and solid defensive organization against a Marseille side that struggled to break them down.
'We played like real men today,' El Aynaoui said to DAZN. 'We've had our struggles, but the whole squad stepped up. We played as a family and delivered the performance we set out to. Winning here is never easy, and we need to savor this moment and take the positives forward.'
The goal was El Aynaoui's fourth of the season, having previously scored against Nantes and Le Havre.
His goal-scoring consistency in front of goal has been a key part of Lens's attacking display all season, and his latest goal was ultimately the one that sealed the much-needed win.
The win is a blessing for Lens as it sees them rise to eighth place in Ligue 1 standings with 36 points and keeps their hopes of European qualification alive.
Marseille remain stuck at 49 points, merely drifting further from the Paris Saint-Germain leadership, who now hold the top position. Tags: FootballNeil El AynaouiRC Lens

AS Roma Sets Sights on Nayef Aguerd for Key Summer Transfer

Rabat – Nayef Aguerd, the 29-year-old Moroccan central defender currently contracted to West Ham United, is entering a critical phase in his career this summer. After a strong season on loan at Real Sociedad, Aguerd has caught the attention of several major European clubs, with AS Roma leading the chase. According to multiple Italian media outlets, AS Roma has made Aguerd a top priority to strengthen their defense. The club's new sporting director, Frédéric Massara, views Aguerd as the perfect fit to bolster Roma's backline. Reports indicate that Roma has already submitted an initial offer to West Ham . However, the capital club faces stiff competition, notably from Juventus, which is reportedly in advanced talks with West Ham to secure the Moroccan international. Marseille is also interested in the defender, but the French club's preference for a loan deal, driven by financial constraints, places them at a disadvantage compared to the Italian sides ready to make a full investment. During the recent season, Aguerd featured in 36 matches across La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Europa League for Real Sociedad . Known for his physical presence as well as his ability to build play from the back, Aguerd remains a key player for Morocco's Atlas Lions, with over 55 international caps. Other clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid have also shown interest, keeping the competition fierce. The coming weeks are expected to be decisive for Aguerd's future, as Europe's top clubs vie for the talented defender who emerged from the Mohammed VI Academy. ONMT Launches Football-Focused Roadshow Ahead of AFCON 2025

Rabat – In the lead-up to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco has launched a European tour to present itself as the host of Africa's biggest football event, as well as a country where sport, culture, and tourism intersect with purpose. From June 16-23, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is leading a five-city roadshow under the banner 'Morocco, Land of Football.' The campaign stops in Madrid, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Milan, five European hubs where the appetite for football runs deep and connections to Morocco are strong. At the heart of this tour lies the vision that Morocco is more than a mere destination, but instead is a proud, future-facing country anchored in its African identity and football culture. With AFCON 2025 on the horizon, the campaign seeks to draw attention to Morocco's preparations and its ability to deliver a world-class event rooted in hospitality, modernity, and passion for the game. 'Morocco is ready to welcome Africa,' said ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda in a statement. 'This roadshow tells the story of a country proud of its roots, united by football, and committed to offering something greater than a tournament. We want people to feel the experience of AFCON 2025 before they even arrive.' The tour reflects a broader effort launched through a strategic agreement between ONMT and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), signed earlier this year. Throughout the tour, Moroccan officials will meet with European travel experts, sports industry professionals, and media figures. More than 100 travel agents and tour operators join the gathering in each stop, alongside African tourism specialists. By putting forward its infrastructure, its youth, and its welcoming spirit, Morocco positions itself as more than a host. It proposes a shared African narrative, ambitious, inclusive, and rooted in real partnerships. This roadshow etches one of the key moments in Morocco's buildup to AFCON 2025. Morocco will also co-host the most anticipated FIFA 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. Tags: AFCON 2025FootballFRMFMoroccoONMT
