LOS ANGELES (AP) — As fans removed their caps and stood for the national anthem Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, they were met with a surprising rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Latin pop and R&B singer Nezza stood in front of the crowd, closed her eyes and belted the song out — in Spanish.
Her 90-second rendition, and a behind-the-scenes video she shared on social media of team representatives discouraging it beforehand, quickly went viral and have become a flashpoint for Dodgers fans frustrated by the team's lack of vocal support for immigrant communities impacted by the deportation raids across the U.S., including numerous neighborhoods in and around Los Angeles.

DeGrom pitches 6 strong innings, Seager snaps homer drought in Rangers' 6-2 victory over Pirates
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jacob deGrom struck out seven in six strong innings, Corey Seager hit his first home run since May 10 and the Texas Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 on Friday night. DeGrom (7-2) retired the first 11 batters and allowed two runs and five hits in six innings with one walk. One day after his 37th birthday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner extended his franchise record to 12 consecutive starts of allowing two runs or fewer and five hits or fewer. After being injured for most of the past four seasons, deGrom is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four June starts. Seager homered with one out in the fifth inning off rookie Mike Burrows (1-2), a drive to right field to increase the Rangers' lead to 4-2. The five-time All-Star shortstop had gone 81 plate appearances without a home run while also being on the injured list from May 11-27 with a strained right hamstring. Burrows lasted 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. Texas' Adolis Garcia had three hits — including a double and his ninth homer — and two RBIs while making two outstanding diving catches in right field. Dodgers' Roki Sasaki resumes his throwing program in recovery from shoulder injury
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki has restarted his throwing program as he continues his recovery from a right shoulder injury. Manager Dave Roberts said the 23-year-old phenom threw from 60 to 90 feet Friday in his return to workouts after a brief pause. 'That was a bonus,' Roberts said. 'That was a plus. Chatted with him briefly afterward. He was excited about it.' The Dodgers had halted Sasaki's throwing program for the previous several days because he didn't feel comfortable throwing at full intensity. Roberts confirmed that Sasaki has remained pain-free, but must build up his arm to game strength in a process that will take at least a few more weeks. Sasaki went on the injured list May 13 with right shoulder impingement, and the Dodgers transferred him to the 60-day injured list earlier Friday to make room on their roster for their latest trade acquisition, left-hander Zach Penrod. Roberts said Sasaki's move to the 60-day list was 'procedural, (and) the progression, it doesn't affect that at all.' Sasaki began his first stateside season in the Dodgers' rotation, going 1-1 with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP in eight starts while adjusting to his move from Japan to MLB. The Dodgers shut down Sasaki after he developed pain in his shoulder, but the two-time Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star began throwing again earlier this month.
