Lucknow: Campuses of corporations were abuzz with celebration of
International Yoga Day
as staff members held and participated enthusiastically in yoga sessions, in the city on Saturday.
At Lucknow Municipal Corporation headquarters, yoga session was conducted in presence of chief guest Mayor Sushma Kharkwal.
Senior BJP member and former MLC Jai Prakash Chaturvedi was present at the session, which began with traditional chanting and warm-up exercises, followed by guided yoga.
Various postures such as Tadasana, Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Anulom-Vilom and Kapalbhati were demonstrated along with explanation of their benefits.
Kharkwal said, "Yoga is a priceless gift of our culture that enhances physical health and mental peace and we should make it a part of our daily routine."
She credited PM Narendra Modi for promoting yoga globally.
Deputy chairman Girish Gupta, deputy leader of corporators Sushil Tiwari 'Pammi', municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, additional commissioners Lalit Kumar, Arvind Rao and Namrata Singh, general manager of jal kal department Kuldeep Singh, and chief tax assessment officer Ashok Singh, attended along with corporators, staff and citizens. The event concluded with a collective pledge to promote yoga.
Meanwhile, BSNL's UP (East) Circle hosted a yoga camp at its Telecom Colony in Aliganj. Chief general manager Arun Kumar Garg led the session, encouraging employees and their families to integrate yoga into daily life for better health and balance. Key participants included senior BSNL officials K K Singh, Manish Kumar, Rajeev Chandel, Zafar Iqbal and Rajneesh Jaiswal and Members of telecom women welfare organisation and chairperson Jyoti Garg.
In the session held on Moti Mahal lawn, organised by Royal Group of Hotels in collaboration with Jashn-e-Azadi Samiti, Bhartiya Adarsh Yoga Sansthan and social awareness group Aadaab Arz Lucknow, Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma was chief guest. Yoga guru Sri Krishna Dutt Mishra conducted the session.

The United Nations' declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day has brought worldwide attention and respect to India's cultural legacy and today, numerous countries celebrate the day with enthusiasm. Clarifying misconceptions, the governor said that yoga was not related to any religion but as a holistic approach to health and consciousness. 'People across the world have adopted yoga for physical health and now increasingly for spiritual awakening. Yoga is not just about physical postures it is also about awakening and awareness,' he said. Yoga day held at Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited SJVN celebrated International Day of Yoga at its corporate head quarters in Shimla and across all its offices and projects. This year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth One Health' aligns the practice of yoga with sustainability and global well-being. Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Kumar Sharma, director (personnel), said, 'Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition and it is a path to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, world and nature.' International Day of Yoga was also celebrated at Army Training Command. The event witnessed active participation by all ranks and families of HQ ARTRAC and the station units.

The event saw participation from SP Ratna, Joint Collector Abhishek Kumar, yoga gurus, and numerous public representatives and citizens. Addressing the gathering, he said that International Yoga Day, celebrated globally on June 21, is a source of pride for both India and the world. He described yoga not just as a symbol of Indian heritage but as a pathway to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He encouraged everyone to integrate yoga into their daily routine, highlighting that even 30 minutes of daily yoga at home could enhance physical health and mental peace. He praised the youth and the public for their enthusiastic participation and noted that such interest would spread awareness about health and well-being. 'A society that practices yoga every day will be a healthy society,' he remarked. The State Government has been actively promoting yoga awareness through the month-long Yogandhra Mahotsavam, conducted from May 21 to June 21, across Dharmavaram, Kadiri, Penukonda, Lepakshi,and other locations with theme-based yoga sessions. These were organised in collaboration with the AYUSH and Health Departments, reaching from district-level centers to rural areas. He thanked everyone involved in making the month-long celebrations a grand success. As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, certificates and mementos were awarded to district and state-level winners of yoga competitions by the Collector. Dignitaries and participants also took part in the Swachh Andhra – Swarna Andhra initiative by planting saplings. The event witnessed large participation from local leaders and officials, including Puttaparthi MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, former Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Municipal Chairman Ramesh, Penukonda RDO Anand Kumar, DMHO Fairoza Begum, Municipal Commissioner Mallikharjuna, TDP District President Vadde Anjanappa, as well as students, yoga instructors, and the general public.
