Bulls' Matas Buzelis Draws Comparison to Current NBA Playoffs Hero
There are plenty of "way too early" 2024 NBA mock drafts that predicted Matas Buzelis would be the first name off the board. The lanky 6'10" wing's streaky jumper with the G-League contributed to his slide last June, but the Bulls were wise to take the Chicago native 11th overall.
Bazelis struggled to adapt to the professional game in the first few months of the season but found his stride after the All-Star break, nearly doubling most of his counting stats. This scorching stretch helped him land an All-Rookie 2nd-Team nod and created plenty of hype for a second-year leap. Now, the 20-year-old is even drawing comparisons to a familiar face and current NBA Playoff hero.

While on the "CHGO Bulls" podcast, Bulls play-by-play commentator Adam Amin made an interesting observation.

"I think this is a team that needs Matas more than anything else," Amin said. "They need that type of kid's attitude. I look at what Alex Caruso has done in these playoffs and see that type of mentality again in a different skill set, body type, and player—regardless, every team needs a player like that. Regardless, I think Matas took the mantle of a player like that."
Amin might not be on the staff, but he's around these guys constantly and can see Buzelis' leadership firsthand on a daily basis. To allegedly have these traits before he can even purchase a beer is impressive and needed if this team wants to escape middle-of-the-pack purgatory.
Buzelis should be the only "untouchable" on the roster, and there should be a concerted effort to surround him with high-end talent as soon as possible.

Dia Bell's NBA Star Dad Reacts to His Elite 11 MVP Honor
Dia Bell's NBA Star Dad Reacts to His Elite 11 MVP Honor originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The crown jewel of Texas' 2026 recruiting class is five-star quarterback Dia Bell. Bell verbally committed to the Longhorns on June 17, 2024, and has held a strong pledge ever since. The American Heritage (Fort Lauderdale, FL) product is ranked the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 overall prospect in Florida for the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports composite. Advertisement Bell has amassed numerous accolades up to this point. The latest achievement, and perhaps one of the hardest to obtain, came this week when Bell was announced the Elite 11 Finals MVP. The Elite 11 is a highly selective competition for the top high school quarterbacks across the country. Bell demonstrated exceptional skills, poise and leadership throughout the competition. He also became the first Texas commit to win the Elite 11 MVP. Bell's father, former NBA star Raja Bell, offered a sincere congratulations to his son for winning the award amongst so many incredible quarterbacks. "A truly amazing experience getting to watch some incredible quarterbacks compete and bond," Raja Bell said. Bell was also named the 2024 Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida. He threw for 2,597 yards before suffering a season-ending lower leg injury in the Class 4A regional semifinals. Advertisement Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has seemingly turned Austin into a quarterback factory. Aside from quarterback phenom Arch Manning, Bell may be the next up and coming name that fans will remember for the foreseeable future. Brother of Former Heat Player Emerges as Trade Target For Miami
Brother of Former Heat Player Emerges as Trade Target For Miami originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In a surprising twist of the NBA trade rumor mill, Cody Martin, the twin brother of former Miami Heat standout Caleb Martin, has emerged as a potential trade target for the Heat as the offseason heats up. Advertisement According to a report shared by NBACentral on X, citing league sources via @TheSteinLine, the Miami Heat have shown interest in the Phoenix Suns' veteran swingman. This development comes as the Suns look to reshape their roster, potentially involving Cody in a multi-team deal that could also move Kevin Durant, the NBA's No. 8 all-time leading scorer. Cody, currently sporting the Suns' No. 17 jersey, brings a gritty, versatile skill set to the table—qualities that align with the Heat's renowned 'Heat Culture.' Miami Heat head coach Erik SpoelstraSam Navarro-Imagn Images His defensive tenacity and ability to contribute on both ends of the floor echo the impact his brother Caleb made during his tenure with Miami, where he became a fan favorite for his hustle and key playoff performances. Advertisement The familiarity between the Martin twins, who both hail from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and share a September 28, 1995, birthday, could give Miami an edge in integrating Cody seamlessly into their system. The Heat's interest might also be fueled by strategic roster planning, especially if they pursue a blockbuster trade involving a star like Kevin Durant. Cody's inclusion could serve as a valuable piece in negotiations or a complementary addition to bolster depth. As trade talks intensify, all eyes will be on whether the Heat can bring another Martin brother into the fold. Heat Trading for Kevin Durant Held Up by One Player
Heat Trading for Kevin Durant Held Up by One Player originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the NBA draft looms, the Miami Heat find themselves at a crossroads in their pursuit of Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant. Advertisement According to a recent tweet shared by NBACentral on X, citing ESPN's Marc Stein, the Heat are firmly resisting the inclusion of rookie center Kel'el Ware in any trade package for Durant. This stance has created a significant hurdle, with the Suns now seeking multiple first-round picks to compensate for Ware's absence. Ware, a promising 7-foot-4 talent who played for both the Oregon Ducks and Indiana Hoosiers throughout his collegiate career, has emerged as a cornerstone of Miami's future. His two-way potential and standout rookie performance have made him untouchable in the Heat's eyes, despite earlier reports suggesting his involvement could seal the deal. Advertisement The Suns, however, view Ware as a key piece, and without him, they are holding out for substantial draft capital to offset the loss of their 36-year-old All-Star, who averaged 26.6 points this season. Miami Heat center Kel'el Ware (7)Dale Zanine-Imagn Images This negotiation snag underscores the delicate balance between immediate championship aspirations and long-term rebuilding. Durant, a 15-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP, remains a coveted asset, with Miami among his preferred destinations alongside the Spurs and Rockets. Yet, the Heat's reluctance to part with Ware signals a strategic pivot toward youth, forcing Phoenix to adjust its demands. Advertisement Fans on X have mixed reactions, with some urging Miami to keep Ware and offer picks, while others question the value of trading for an aging Durant. With the draft adding urgency, the Heat must decide: sacrifice their future for a Durant-led present or hold firm, potentially letting a blockbuster deal slip away.
