Historic feat! GM Abhijeet Gupta clinches fourth title at 21st Delhi International Open Chess Tournament 2025

Indian Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta won his record fourth title at the 21st Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2025, scoring 8.5 points out of 10. The tournament, organised by Delhi Chess Association, featured over 2,500 players from more than 20 countries and offered a prize pool of Rs 1.21 crore.
Gupta, 36, remained unbeaten throughout the tournament's 10 rounds. His crucial victory came in Round 9 against Belarusian GM Mihail Nikitenko, followed by a draw with IM Aronyak Ghosh in the final round to secure the championship.
Belarusian GM Mihail Nikitenko claimed second place with 8 points, while Indian GM Diptayan Ghosh secured third position based on tiebreak calculations.

IM Aronyak Ghosh and GM Aditya S Samant finished fourth and fifth respectively, both scoring 8 points.
Vietnamese GM Nguyen Duc Hoa took sixth place with 7.5 points, with India's top seed GM SL Narayanan following in seventh position.
Armenian Grandmasters Mamikon Gharibyan and Manuel Petrosyan secured eighth and ninth places respectively. Kyrgyzstan's IM Tologon Tegin Semetei completed the top 10, all three finishing with 7.5 points.

Sex harassment FIR lodged against sports head, HC told
Mumbai: The state on Friday informed Bombay high court that Kherwadi police station, Bandra East, registered an FIR against the president of a sports body on a complaint of sexual harassment by a woman athlete. The FIR followed Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Neela Gokhale's direction on Wednesday to the police-in-charge to record her statement and "take appropriate action in accordance with the law, including registration of FIR, against Mr... and others found involved, if a cognisable offence is made out against them". The state's advocate, Vishal Thadani, informed that an FIR was registered on Thursday. The HC was hearing a petition by Mixed Martial Arts India to direct the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to grant it recognition. Since the IOA granted recognition to the Mixed Martial Arts Sports Federation of India, the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association recognised only it. In these circumstances, the petitioner's athletes are unable to participate in the first Asian Youth Championship in Bahrain between June 25 and 28. In a brief meeting with TOI, Chawla, who had retired from cricket on June 6 last, clearly said cricket is his passion but coaching was not in his mind as he had no interest in it. Piyush made his debut in international test cricket on March 9, 2006. Though he had played just three tests, he was the member of two World Cup winning teams. In the IPL, he is one of the most successful bowlers with 192 wickets. Asked why, despite coaching being popular among former cricketers, he prefers not to coach, Chawla explained that coaching requires a lot of time, or you may say it is a full-time job and it also requires complete dedication and analysis of each player. When he cannot give full time then it would be injustice and he was not interested in just making money. However, if any player has a problem in his game and style then he would be available for him for correction. He would spend two three days with him to correct him.
