Sachin Tendulkar criticises Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja for denying Jasprit Bumraj '9 wickets' with fielding errors
Sachin Tendulkar reacted to Jasprit Bumrah's five-for in the first innings of the Headingley Test.
New Delhi: Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah left nobody disappointed with his fiery spell at the Headingley, and he eventually had a well-deserved five-wicket haul in the first innings of the match, which also earned him the applause of the maestro himself -Sachin Tendulkar. The Indian cricket's legend posted on social media so as to illuminate the brilliance of the pacer notwithstanding the fact that he has been subjected to numerous frustrating setbacks.
'Congratulations Bumrah! A no-ball and 3 missed chances stood between you and nau (nine) wickets,' Tendulkar posted, summarising the tale of a lone fighter.
These numbers of 5 for 83 in 24.4 overs by Bumrah don t tell the whole story. He was certainly the outstanding bowler of the Test, head and shoulders above the rest in ability and effect. It was Bumrah who kept things together on a surface that made it difficult. He took out Zak Crawley early, the ever-threatening Joe Root later in the game and, coming back late to mop up the tail, he got rid of Josh Tongue too, in between competing with challenging conditions and the stray channel of his colleagues.
As a matter of fact, luck, or rather the absence of it, was the only thing that could separate Bumrah and a haul-of-a-lifetime. On Day 2 he dismissed Harry Brook off a no-ball and Ravindra Jadeja, who is usually a good fielder, dropped a catch off his bowling, with Yashasvi Jaiswal also dropping 2 more catches.
All the three missed opportunities were against Bumrah, and cost India runs and momentum. Nevertheless, despite the disappointed efforts he was serene, purposeful, threatening at all times during his magic spell.
When he looked up in a silent relief, his fielders flocked to him as they cheered. This was his 12th five-for in Tests abroad and equalized him to the 12 five-servers made by a legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. Having won the first innings lead, India will come out to show an equally good batting performance so as to exert pressure on the English batsmen in the fourth innings.

Chhattisgarh CM Provides Rs 1.7 Lakh Aid To Athlete For Softball Championship In China
Last Updated: Chhattisgarh CM's call to 17-year-old Shalu Dahariya, a national-level softball player, ensured her expenses for the Asia Youth Softball Championship in China were covered In a moment that will forever be etched in the memory of 17-year-old Shalu Dahariya, a video call from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai turned what seemed like an insurmountable hurdle into a milestone of hope. Shalu, a national-level softball player from Janjgir-Champa district, has earned a coveted spot in the Indian team for the Asia Youth Softball Championship, slated to be held in Xi'an, China from July 14 to 20. But while her talent opened international doors, it was a timely intervention from the highest level of government that ensured she could walk through them. The daughter of a private security guard and a beauty parlour worker, Shalu's journey has been one of resilience and quiet determination. Starting softball in Class 8, she has already represented Chhattisgarh in national championships a dozen times, clinching a gold medal along the way. Yet, when the opportunity to represent India arrived, the cost – Rs 1.70 lakh for international travel and preparation – stood like a wall in her path. That wall crumbled when her story reached the ears of the Chief Minister. In a surprise gesture, CM Sai reached out to Shalu directly via video call. His message was both heartfelt and firm. 'Daughter, move forward fearlessly. We are all with you. Chhattisgarh is proud of you," the CM said. What followed was more than just words of encouragement; it was action. Acting swiftly on the Chief Minister's instructions, Janjgir-Champa Collector Janmejay Mahobe personally handed over a cheque of Rs 1.70 lakh to Shalu, covering all her expenses for the international trip. Shalu's story is now echoing across Chhattisgarh, inspiring countless young girls who dare to dream big in the face of financial constraints. It serves as a powerful reminder that when governments move beyond red tape and respond with empathy and urgency, they don't just fund ambitions; they help rewrite destinies. Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal blasted for ‘disciplinary' errors during IND vs ENG 1st Test; ‘It sounds cliche…'
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra minced no words for Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal after their dropped catches cost the visitors massively in the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds. While Jaiswal dropped three, Pant misjudged one as England nearly touched India's 471 in the first innings. Among the beneficiaries was Harry Brook who was dropped twice - by Pant and Jaiswal. He also got a third life when Jasprit Bumrah had him for a duck, but it was called a no ball. In the end, Brook went on to score 99 only to be caught off Prasidh Krishna's delivery. Chopra, a cricketer-turned-pundit blamed it on the Indian players for letting themselves down on Day 3. "It sounds cliche - catches win matches - but it's true. There are disciplinary things among which some things are in your hands. Holding catches is in your hands. Improving your fielding is in your hands," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. 'Fielding and overstepping, these are the things where you have to look within, and that is where I think the Indian team has let themselves down massively. They would be hurting because they dropped catches and bowled no-balls,' added Chopra, who played 10 Tests for India. England were eventually bowled out for 465, thanks to Bumrah's 14th Test five-wicket haul. In the second innings, India were 90/2 when the stumps were drawn. KL Rahul (47 not out) and captain Shubman Gill (6 not out) will start for India on Day 4. Chopra also questioned Jaiswal's fielding abilities, and also described how the youngster used to be a good gully fielder in the Test series against Bangladesh. "Bumrah bowled the no-ball, but how many catches will you drop off Bumrah's bowling? Rishabh Pant also dropped a catch.

'Zabardasti Try Kar Raha Hai': Pant Heard Saying To Himself On Stump Mic
Last Updated: Rishabh Pant was heard telling himself to stay calm in Hindi during the first Test at Headingley. Rishabh Pant continued to entertain fans on day four of the first Test of their five-match series between India and England at Headingley in Leeds on Monday. His self-talk in Hindi, which was picked up by the stump mic and was heard telling himself to stay calm and avoid taking unnecessary risks. India vs England: 1st Test, Day 4 – Live Score ' Waise zaruri nahi hai (not important really). Maarna hai to seedha lag jayega na next ball (If you want to hit, do it with a straight bat next ball). Zabardasti try kar raha hai (Why try and force to score)," Rishabh Pant was heard saying to himself by the stump mic. In the commentary box, former England captain Michael Atherton asked Dinesh Karthik to translate Pant's words. 'First, he told himself to play with a straight bat and he will still middle it. Don't try to do too much. He's almost convincing himself that he doesn't need to do anything extraordinary. He is quite disappointed with what he did and I hope he listens to himself," Karthik explained. Atherton replied: 'It's interesting, isn't it? It suggests he has played so much by instinct that his instinct takes over, regardless of what he tells himself to do." Pant-KL Fight To Lunch India recovered from the early loss of skipper Shubman Gill to reach 153/3 and lead Ben Stokes' side by 159 runs. KL Rahul (72 not out) and Rishabh Pant (31 not out) are at the crease. With the wicket providing significant assistance to the pacers, first-innings centurion Gill, who resumed at six not out, could only add two runs to his overnight score before being dismissed by pacer Brydon Carse. The England bowler delivered a good-length ball that jagged back sharply, catching Gill by surprise and taking a thick inside edge before crashing onto the stumps. Despite the early setback, Rahul and Pant played cautiously, enduring the early freshness of the wicket with a valuable 61-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
