India vs England: 1st Test, Day 4 – Live Score
' Waise zaruri nahi hai (not important really). Maarna hai to seedha lag jayega na next ball (If you want to hit, do it with a straight bat next ball). Zabardasti try kar raha hai (Why try and force to score)," Rishabh Pant was heard saying to himself by the stump mic.
In the commentary box, former England captain Michael Atherton asked Dinesh Karthik to translate Pant's words.
'First, he told himself to play with a straight bat and he will still middle it. Don't try to do too much. He's almost convincing himself that he doesn't need to do anything extraordinary. He is quite disappointed with what he did and I hope he listens to himself," Karthik explained.
Atherton replied: 'It's interesting, isn't it? It suggests he has played so much by instinct that his instinct takes over, regardless of what he tells himself to do."
Pant-KL Fight To Lunch
India recovered from the early loss of skipper Shubman Gill to reach 153/3 and lead Ben Stokes' side by 159 runs. KL Rahul (72 not out) and Rishabh Pant (31 not out) are at the crease.
With the wicket providing significant assistance to the pacers, first-innings centurion Gill, who resumed at six not out, could only add two runs to his overnight score before being dismissed by pacer Brydon Carse. The England bowler delivered a good-length ball that jagged back sharply, catching Gill by surprise and taking a thick inside edge before crashing onto the stumps.
Despite the early setback, Rahul and Pant played cautiously, enduring the early freshness of the wicket with a valuable 61-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

India vs England Test: Sunil Gavaskar calls for Rishabh Pant's signature somersault celebration, wicketkeeper politely declines

Sunil Gavaskar and Rishabh Pant NEW DELHI: Sunil Gavaskar and Rishabh Pant continued to deliver viral social media moments on Day 4 of the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley on Monday. Pant, the dynamic left-hander, followed up his brilliant 134 in the first innings with a superb 118 in the second, becoming the first wicketkeeper-batter to score a century in both innings of a Test match. He also became the first Indian to achieve this rare feat in England. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Pant's iconic somersault celebration had already gone viral following his first-innings century. However, he chose not to repeat the flip after reaching his eighth Test ton in the second innings. As the cameras shifted to the stands, Sunil Gavaskar was seen gesturing to Pant, urging him to perform the somersault once more. In response, Pant signalled, "some other time." The light-hearted exchange added another chapter to the growing on-field chemistry between Gavaskar and Pant. During the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gavaskar had famously criticised Pant's dismissal as 'Stupid. Stupid. Stupid,' only to later praise his Headingley hundred as 'Superb. Superb. Superb.' Pant walked in after Indian captain Shubman Gill was dismissed in the very first over of the day by Brydon Carse. The 27-year-old began in typically aggressive and unorthodox fashion, but quickly adapted to the challenging conditions. He played cautiously before lunch, scoring 31 off 59 balls, and then launched a calculated counterattack, particularly targeting spinner Shoaib Bashir. Pant brought up his century in 130 deliveries and was eventually dismissed for 118 by Joe Root. Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta praised Pant's temperament and adaptability, comparing him to India's resilient former batter, Cheteshwar Pujara. Greenstone Lobo predicts winner of IND vs ENG series | Who Has the Astrological Edge? 'The first phase of Pant's innings was entertaining — he was trying to use the strong wind in his favour, playing those big shots. But he wasn't quite convincing in the way he did it. Then he decided to switch gears completely. And, this is the beauty of Pant — his cricketing mind is sharp. He abandoned the aggressive shots, went all-out defense, and did not play a single aerial shot after that. 'It reminded me of how versatile he is. This is the same guy who, early in his Test career, once got a 29-ball duck. He can bat like Pujara for an hour or two. We've seen him play at a strike rate of 30 for over an hour during hundreds that he has scored. It was fascinating to see the contrast — two very different versions of Rishabh Pant in one session,' said Deep on Jio Hotstar's Match Centre Live. Rishabh Pant Frustrated With Himself, Outburst Caught On Stump Mic: ' Kuch Alag Nahi... '

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant was seen talking to himself after surviving a couple of close calls on Day 4 of the 1st Test against England in Leeds. Pant walked out to bat early in the first session after India lost the wicket of captain Shubman Gill, who could only add two runs to his overnight score of six. Despite being new to the crease, Pant was unfazed by the situation and tried to attack the England bowlers from the get go. However, in the 32nd over, Pant survived multiple close calls. Firstly, he went for a slog sweep and top-edged the delivery in the air, only for the ball to cross the boundary after landing between the two incoming fielders. A few balls later, Pant went down on his knees to play a scoop, prompting England to take a DRS. However, replays showed that the ball hit the inside edge before hitting the pads. However, Pant was miffed with himself after the same and his outburst was caught on the stump mic. "Tez ball hai Rishabh, maarna hai toh seedha lag jaayega naa iss ball pe, kuch alag karne ki zarurat nahi hai," Pant can be heard as saying to himself, as explained by former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik. Rahul was looking solid at 72 off 157 balls, while Pant was 31 off 59 as India extended their overall lead to 159 runs, having scored 63 runs for the loss of one wicket during a riveting session. Ahead by 96 runs in the beginning, India were off to a disastrous start as they lost skipper Shubman Gill seven balls into the day's play, but the English bowlers did not taste further success in the first session, though they kept testing the two batters with their probing line and length. On a windy and cloudy morning at Headingley, India started off on the wrong foot losing the huge wicket of Gill, who chopped Brydon Carse 's good length delivery on to the stumps.

KL Rahul Slams Ninth Ton For India In 1st Test vs England. Sachin Tendulkar Reacts

KL Rahul was picture of composure on Monday. Even as Rishabh Pant rocked and rolled at the other end, KL Rahul (120 batting) was rewarded for his indefatigable resistance as he constructed a classic hundred to power India to a dominant 298 for four at tea on the fourth day and stretch their overall lead to 304 runs. Rahul looked calm, composed and self-assured at the other end, helping India swell the lead brick by brick, even as Pant seemed to tone down his attacking approach and blocked without any difficulty. Luck too smiled on Rahul as Harry Brook dropped him at gully after the batter tried to steer a quick Josh Tongue delivery. At the other end, Rishabh Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in the game's history to score hundreds in both innings of a Test, guiding the visitors to a position of strength in the series-opener against England. Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina lauded both batters. @klrahul 's calm. @RishabhPant17 's flair. Two special knocks. Two proud moments. — Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) June 23, 2025 What a statement by #KLRahul & #RishabhPant! Centuries in the 2nd innings when it mattered the most Pure class, grit & intent on display! Keep going boys, big series ahead! #ENGvIND #TestCricket #TeamIndia — Suresh Raina (@ImRaina) June 23, 2025 Former captain Nasser Hussain and decorated speedster Stuart Broad were left enchanted by "elegant" India star KL Rahul's batting "masterclass" in English conditions on day four of the opening Test at Headingley. Rahul has inflicted malicious damage to England at Headingley with his composed demeanour and picture-perfect strokeplay in the second innings. While Pant has bustled about his business at the other end in patches, Rahul has remained unfazed, leaving the deliveries in the corridor of uncertainty and punishing the ones that landed in his arc. "He is so elegant. Even when a ball goes past the outside edge, it doesn't faze him too much. If you want to learn how to bat in English conditions, he is giving you a masterclass," Hussain said on Sky Sports. Rahul notched up his fifty and kept relying on his robust defense to ensure India remained unscathed after captain Shubman Gill chopped the ball into the timber. Fortune stood by his side when he steered the ball straight into Harry Brook, who fumbled on the opportunity and allowed Rahul a breather. "He has driven the ball so beautifully, but last night, I really enjoyed the field Stokes operated with by leaving mid-off completely open. He had a square extra-cover and tempted Rahul to drive straighter," Broad said. When the pitch started to misbehave, Rahul kept his eyes glued to the ball till the last moment and weathered puzzling deliveries to remain unbeaten on 72 at the stroke of lunch. On the other hand, Pant stayed true to his natural aggressive intent but eventually gave in to his survival instincts. Pant was struck on the pads while attempting to scoop the ball. A faint edge saved him from being dismissed, and from then on, he adapted to the policy of the artificial sedation of his instincts to ensure the partnership saw the light after the first session. After lunch was called, India hammered 153/3 on the board, enjoying a promising lead of 159. " Dinesh Karthik summed up this Rahul-Pant partnership pretty well when he said classical music from one end and hip-hop from the other. The hip-hop, Pant, has toned it down after a [frenzied] period. He had a word with himself and has got into his innings now. He has a relatively sensible head on, and Rahul has always had a sensible head on," Hussain said while reflecting on Pant and Rahul's partnership. With agency inputs
