HAIM join star-studded line-up for Radio 1's Big Weekend 2025
Global pop rock band HAIM have been added to Radio 1's Big Weekend 2025 line-up, performing in Sefton Park, Liverpool on Sunday 25 May.
The Grammy-nominated trio, renowned for their electrifying live performances and critically acclaimed music, join an already stellar line-up featuring some of the biggest names in music including, Sam Fender, Tate McRae, Mumford & Sons, JADE, Tom Grennan, Confidence Man, Lola Young, AJ Tracey plus many more. They will take to the stage from Friday 23 May – Sunday 25 May performing to an audience of over 100,000 music fans.

The station has also announced its outreach plans ahead of the festival, which includes an extensive programme including open mic nights and panels, for young people across the area.
BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Merseyside will join forces to host three open mic nights in venues across Merseyside. Sign-ups will be on a first come, first served basis at each venue each night.
A special one-off BBC Introducing show will air on both Radio 1 and Radio Merseyside on Thursday 22 May (8pm-10pm) with Radio 1's Jess Iszatt and Radio Merseyside's Dave Monks co-hosting live from the Radio Merseyside studio. The show will celebrate the local music scene, reflecting content captured from the open mic events and featuring Merseyside talent who will be performing on the BBC Introducing stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend 2025.
In addition to open mic nights, Radio 1's Life Hacks presenters, Lauren Layfield and Shanequa Paris and Newsbeat's Eleanor Doyle will host a series of panels across Merseyside from Monday 31 March to Thursday 3 April. The four panels will delve into key topics inspired by local young people, with Liverpool-based panellists and experts sharing their unique experiences and offering help, advice and insights to help young people take their next steps after school.

In May, Radio 1's Life Hacks will dive into insightful reflections from the panels, highlighting key takeaways from their time in Liverpool. They'll journey deeper into the topics, where audiences across the UK can participate by asking questions.
The shows will explore mastering essential life skills, building confidence, networking, alternative career paths and exploring different ways to take the next step after school.

'Dream come true' for Howden singer going to Glastonbury
A singer-songwriter says it is a "dream come true" to be performing at 24, from Howden, East Yorkshire, has been chosen to play at one of the world's biggest music festivals on 26 will perform six songs from her debut EP Nothing Compares to Nineteen on the BBC Introducing stage, alongside several other new British artists."I've never even been to the festival so the fact that I'm playing is absolutely mental," she said. "The reaction from everyone was so nice and positive and it felt so good."That was the moment I realised it was what I wanted to do and it was such a buzz," she went on to perform in Hull at the age of 17 when she first started to get into the city's music scene. Fiona found out she would be performing at Glastonbury during a gig with BBC Introducing at the end of she was informed on stage, she said she was "just in shock"."Afterwards I ran into the control room and just started jumping up and down and just burst into tears."All of the presenters could see me through the glass. It was really overwhelming and just made my day," she added: "I'm bringing one of my best mates and it's going to be the best weekend ever." Steve and Bev, Fiona's parents said they were "chuffed" to hear she would be performing at Glastonbury."Years ago we would be somewhat taken aback at open mic nights. "After Fi had played her set, strangers would come up to congratulate us, shake our hands and enthuse about her. "We would hold our hands up and say that it had nothing to do with us, it's just her," they will also be headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at the Humber Street Festival at Hull Marina in August. 'World-class' recording studio planned for Newcastle Quayside
A new £1.8m "world-class" recording studio could be open by the end of the year. Newcastle City Council said it was hoping to home the four-storey facility in the Grade II listed Coronation Building, owned by the Live Theatre, on the East Combined Authority (NECA) has now agreed to fund the scheme using money from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said: "It's about telling young people making music – you can do it here." As part of a report detailing the investment, NECA said north-east England had long struggled to attract investment from major music industry operators. Sam Fender was an "anomaly rather than the norm", it report said it was difficult to get private investment for such a "world-class music recording facility" in Newcastle due to "excessive upfront and operational costs". NECA said by funding this facility it would attract major talent, nurture local acts and drive economic growth. The space would also contain areas for filming and photography, as well as podcast studios. 'Cutting-edge space' Newcastle City Council leader Labour's Karen Kilgour said the facility would "cement the city's growing reputation" for its music scene."This is an incredibly exciting project, and while there is much still to do, we look forward to it getting off the ground," she local authority said it hoped the studios would be open by the end of the year, though the plans are yet to receive planning permission or listed building consent. Live Theatre head Jacqui Kell said the team was "thrilled" by the investment. She said: "[The money] will transform the building into cutting-edge creative space and attract major music talent to the city while supporting emerging local artists." R&B singer Chris Brown pleads not guility to 'bottle attack' charge
R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. The Grammy-winning musician, 36, is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19 2023. He appeared alongside his co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, 38 to enter his plea at the trial preparation hearing. The US singer has continued his international tour, appearing in Cardiff on Thursday night, after he was bailed for a security fee of £5 million. Manchester Magistrates' Court heard last month that Mr Diaw was standing at the bar of the nightclub when he was struck several times with a bottle, and was then pursued to a separate area of the venue where he was punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown was arrested at Manchester's Lowry Hotel at 2am on May 15 this year by detectives from the Metropolitan Police. He is said to have flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet in preparation for the UK tour dates. He was released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Greater Manchester, on May 21. Shortly after being released from prison, the musician posted an Instagram story referencing his upcoming tour. It said: 'FROM THE CAGE TO THE STAGE!!! BREEZYBOWL.'
