Foundation stone for health projects worth ₹440 crore to be laid in Yadgir today
Foundation stone for development works to be taken up at a cost of ₹440 crore under the Arogya Avishkara programme will be laid in Yadgir on Saturday.
The District Stadium in Yadgir has been fully prepared for the foundation stone-laying ceremony, with financial assistance from Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB).
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will lay the foundation stone for the works at the stadium.
Minister for Small Scale Industries and also district in-charge Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, KKRDB chairman and MLA Ajay Singh visited the venue on Friday and inspected the preparations.
After that, Mr. Darshanapur told media persons that the State government is aiming at strengthening the health sector in the region. It will lay foundation stone for various health institutions to be taken up at a cost of ₹440 crore.
Construction and upgradation of primary and community health centres across the region are included in the project. He said that around 20,000 people are expected to take part in the programme. Seating arrangements, food and water facilities have been made.
The Minister said that an industrial hub will be developed near Mudaragi village at a cost of ₹200 crore with a 50% share from KKRDB and the Small Scale Industries Department to give a boost to industries.
Mr. Ajay Singh said that the State government has released ₹5,000 crore for 2025-26 to the board. The grant will be equally distributed to all 41 Assembly constituencies in the region. A sum of ₹873 crore was sanctioned for the health sector during the Cabinet meeting in Kalaburagi in September last and of this, works worth ₹440 crore are getting implemented in the first phase.
The district administration, Home and other departments concerned have put in efforts to make it a successful event. An helipad has been prepared inside the ground.
The Home Department has made elaborate security arrangements. A total of 1,118 police personnel, including two Superintendents of Police and Assistant Superintendents of Police each, 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 37 Inspectors, 96 Sub-Inspectors, 111 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 635 constables, 125 women police constables, 99 traffic constables and Home Guards, have been deployed.
MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur, Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar and other officers were present during the Minister's inspection.

Bhovi community seeks nomination to Legislative Council
Members of the Bhovi community have urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief, to nominate a member of their community to the Legislative Council. Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Sunday, former Chairman of the Karnataka Bhovi Development Corporation G.V. Seetharamu said it was only in 1980 when a member of their community was nominated to the Legislative Council by the Congress party. Since the nomination of R. Peeranna, former MLA for H.D. Kote, in 1980 by the then Chief Minister R. Gundu Rao, not a single member of the community has been nominated to the Council, he said. The Bhovi community comes under the Scheduled Caste (SC), and is the third largest in the 1.8 crore SC population in the State, said Mr. Seetharamu, claiming that the Bhovi community's population in Karnataka is estimated to be around 18 lakh. Even though Congress has 33 MLCs in the State Legislative Council that has a total strength of 75 seats, not a single one of them belongs to the Bhovi community, he said. Mr. Seetharamu said that from his travel across the State between the 2013 assembly elections and the 2023 elections, he had seen how the Bhovi community has stood behind the Congress party. He urged Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar to recognise the dedication of the Bhovi community to the party and nominate their member to the Council. Out of the 75 members in the Legislative Council, 25 are elected by local bodies and another 25 by the members of the Legislative Assembly. While seven others are elected from graduates' constituencies, another seven are elected from the teachers' constituencies. Another 11 members are nominated by the Governor based on the recommendation of the government.

What Karnataka's new crowd control bill proposes
Facing flak over the handling of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations, which resulted in the death of 11 cricket fans in a stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4, the Karnataka government has proposed a new legislation to manage crowds at events. The Karnataka Crowd Control (Managing Crowd at Events and Venues of Mass Gathering) Bill 2025 looks to 'effectively manage and control crowds at sponsored events and venues of mass gathering' such as political rallies, conferences and other events. It excludes 'jatra, rathotsava, pallakki utsava, teppada teru, urus, or any religious event pertaining to any religion, caste or creed'.Discussed in a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on June 19 and slated to come up for approval in the next cabinet meeting, the draft bill lays down guidelines on standard operating procedures for managing crowds, including protocols for dealing with emergencies as well as provisions for reserved seating, security systems, access control and advanced check-in solutions to prevent bottlenecks while ensuring smooth crowd flow. 'There shall be independent audits of every venue's capacity, entry/exit routes, emergency evacuation options and communication systems,' reads the draft. 'Venues that don't comply with safety standards should not be allowed to host high footfall events.' In case of emergency, the jurisdictional police station may postpone or cancel the event, or change its by event planners shall be punished with 'imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine up to Rs 5 lakh'. 'The event planner is responsible to pay the compensation to the person who is severely injured in such an event, mass gathering pertaining to political rally, jatra, conference etc, or compensation to the family member of the deceased. In case of the event planner not paying the compensation, the government may collect the amount as arrears of land revenue. The event planner's property can be auctioned by the government,' the bill outrage following the tragic loss of lives at the RCB victory celebrations had put the Siddaramaiah-led Congress on the backfoot, even as the Karnataka High Court registered a suo motu petition to hear the matter. The CM sacked his close aide and political advisor K. Govindaraju, while ordering the suspensions of five police officers, including the city police commissioner. Karnataka minister HK Patil pulls up own government over illegal mining cases
Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to punish those guilty of illegal mining in the state, alleging that the government has not been honest and committed to ensuring proper punishment for those guilty of "looting the state's wealth".In order to bring the culprits behind illegal mining to justice, Patil also suggested steps that the Siddaramaiah government should take, according to a seven-page letter to the Chief Minister, Patil claimed that only 7.6 per cent of all illegal mining cases have been investigated and that the government has not done enough to punish the culprits and recover the lost wealth. "Between 2007 and 2011, massive treachery took place in Karnataka in the form of illegal mining. Politicians and bureaucrats systematically looted the state's wealth. The government lost Rs 1.5 lakh crore. But in spite of such a large-scale loot, the government has not demonstrated honesty and commitment in ensuring commensurate punishment for the loot and recovery of the state's wealth," Patil said in the said that there is public outrage over illegal mining in the state and the administration's inability to address most of such cases."There is outrage among people about this. A special investigation team (SIT), which is looking into a few cases, has not made progress. These cases are getting buried in government files and administrative delays," he also suggested steps that can be taken to effectively address illegal mining and their investigation:Through the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance of 1946, a Recovery Commissioner should be immediately appointed within the jurisdiction of the State Government to seize the property of criminals accused of recovery efforts. This Commissioner must be provided with the necessary support and strength. Steps must be taken with firm determination to make recovery to the number of illegal mining cases that have completed investigation and are now in the trial phase in court, there are at least ten times more cases that have not yet undergone investigation. Investigations into such cases are essential.
