Palantir Stock (PLTR) Could Emerge as a Big Winner in the Israel-Iran Conflict

Globe and Mail4 hours ago

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) has long positioned itself as a critical player in the defense and intelligence sectors. As tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, investors are revisiting defense-tech stocks that could benefit from increased global demand for advanced AI-powered security systems. Consequently, Palantir is gaining investor interest due to its advanced data tools, supporting military and intelligence efforts.

Earlier in June, Middle East tensions escalated when Israel launched targeted attacks on Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict. As a result, oil prices and defense-related stocks surged amid rising geopolitical uncertainty.
Palantir's Investment Opportunity
Palantir could benefit from the Israel-Iran conflict because its technology helps governments with defense, intelligence, and battlefield decisions. Since it already works closely with Israel's defense ministry and the U.S. government, rising tensions may increase demand for its services, making the stock more attractive to some investors.
Meanwhile, Palantir's strong ties with the U.S. government appear solid, especially with the Department of Defense. In fact, most of the company's revenue last year came from government contracts, highlighting its steady role as a key defense tech provider. Notably, Palantir delivered strong Q1 2025 results, with revenue growing 39% year-over-year, well above expectations. U.S. performance stood out, jumping 55%, while its commercial business in the U.S. hit a $1 billion annual run rate for the first time.
On the downside, Palantir's lofty valuation may dim its appeal. The stock is currently trading at a forward P/E ratio of 240, far above the sector median of 22.71. This raises concerns about whether its growth justifies the premium. While the company delivered strong Q1 results and impressive U.S. revenue growth, some analysts argue that these positives were already priced in.
Analysts Weigh In on PLTR Stock
Analyst opinions on Palantir remain divided. On the bullish side, Loop Capital's top analyst, Mark Schappel, recently raised his price target from $130 to $155, reiterating a Buy rating. He praised Palantir as an 'early software leader' in enterprise AI, citing its AIP platform and strong positioning in the booming AI space.
In contrast, Citi remains cautious with a $115 price target, implying over 17% downside. Although the firm acknowledged Palantir's solid fundamentals, it raised concerns about the stock's stretched valuation and uncertainty around large-scale contracts like Golden Dome.
Is Palantir Stock a Good Buy?
Overall, Wall Street has a Hold consensus rating on PLTR stock, based on three Buys, 10 Holds, and four Sells assigned in the last three months. The average Palantir share price target is $104.27, which implies a potential downside of 25.5% from current levels.

Here's Why Wall Street Is Bullish on AI Stock Vertiv Holdings (VRT)

Vertiv Holdings (VRT) stock has recovered strongly from the lows seen in April and has risen more than 11% over the past month, as concerns about a slowdown in AI (artificial intelligence) spending have eased. VRT stock has rallied more than 30% in the past year. The data center infrastructure company is gaining from the strong demand for its energy-efficient cooling and power solutions that are required to support the ongoing AI boom. Confident Investing Starts Here: Vertiv: Riding the AI Wave Vertiv impressed investors with solid Q1 earnings beat. The company's Q1 2025 revenue grew 24%, while adjusted EPS (earnings per share) increased by about 49%. The AI infrastructure company also raised its full-year guidance, reflecting confidence in navigating macro challenges and mitigating the impact of tariffs announced by the Trump administration. 'Our partnership with Nvidia continues to place us at the heart of industrial-scale AI factory deployments,' said VRT CEO Giordano Albertazzi. Recently, Vertiv further strengthened its collaboration with chip giant Nvidia (NVDA) and announced an energy-efficient 142kW cooling and power reference architecture for the latter's GB300 NVL72 platform. Overall, VRT is confident about its growth ahead, with a 10% rise in Q1 2025 backlog to $7.9 billion compared to the end of 2024. Analysts Raise Price Target for VRT Stock on AI Demand Recently, Bank of America analyst Andrew Obin reiterated a Buy rating on Vertiv stock and increased the price target to $140 (17.8% upside potential) from $135. The 5-star analyst emphasized that the rapid advancement of AI is transforming the data center infrastructure landscape, driving robust demand for power, cooling, and advanced hardware. BofA expects data center spending to grow at a 13% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) from 2024 to 2028, reaching $532 billion. In fact, he expects infrastructure-related spending to climb at an even faster 16% CAGR. Notably, Obin believes that Vertiv, Eaton (ETN), and Johnson Controls (JCI) are well-positioned to leverage the shift toward high-density racks and advanced cooling solutions like direct-to-chip liquid cooling. He also named GE Vernova (GEV) as a top pick in the power generation space, citing its potential to meet rising demand. With only 5% of existing data centers equipped to handle AI workloads, Obin expects a massive upgrade cycle ahead. Also, with AI-driven demand showing no signs of slowing, Obin is upbeat about these stocks. Meanwhile, Citi analyst Andrew Kaplowitz increased the price target for VRT stock to $130 (9.4% upside potential) from $98 and reaffirmed a Buy rating. Following a meeting with the management, the 5-star analyst stated that he is confident that Vertiv remains well-positioned for huge industrial market outgrowth, thanks to durable AI/data center-related growth (Citi forecasts overall global data center IT load growth at 14% CAGR through 2030) and its focus on innovation. Kaplowitz also highlighted VRT's efforts to mitigate tariff headwinds over time. Citing the possibility for margin expansion, strong underlying fundamentals, and increased confidence in improving performance, Kaplowitz increased the EV/EBITDA target multiple for VRT stock to 21x from 16x. Is VRT a Good Stock to Buy? Overall, Vertiv Holdings stock scores a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 12 Buys and two Holds. The average VRT stock price target of $116.93 indicates a possible downside of 1.6% from current levels, following the strong rally over the past year.

‘Life is full of unexpected surprises': People trying to call Iran meet mysterious voice message

People stand on a rooftop amid billowing smoke following an overnight Israeli strike in Tehran, Iran's capital, on June 17. (Atta Kenare/AFP/Getty Images via CNN Newsource) People trying to call friends and loved ones inside Iran have instead been met with strange, pre-recorded voice messages, which some experts believe may be part of the regime's wider internet blackout. In a recording of a telephone call heard by CNN, a person outside of Iran hoping to hear their friend's voice on the other line, was instead met with a robotic voice. 'Hello, and thank you for taking the time to listen,' the voice says. 'Life is full of unexpected surprises,' it continues, 'and these surprises can sometimes bring joy while, at other times, they challenge us. 'The key is to discover the strength within us to overcome these challenges.' The unsettling message, which lasts nearly 90 seconds, then goes on to recommend the listener close their eyes and imagine themself in a place that brings them 'peace and happiness.' While different variations have been reported, this version appears to have been the one most commonly heard by people outside Iran placing calls to mobile phones inside the country on Wednesday and Thursday. No similar message was reported when calling landlines. The messages were widely heard after Iran imposed nationwide temporary restrictions on internet access on Wednesday, citing security concerns. This meant WhatsApp was down, so people abroad began calling their friends and family in Iran directly, rather than via the app. The message is reportedly not heard if the call is made through an app. The initial assumption for many Iranians was that the messages were the result of an Israeli cyberattack. Others see the Iranian authorities as being behind them. Alp Toker, the founder and director of NetBlocks, a non-governmental organization that monitors internet governance, believes the messages are an attempt by the Iranian government to limit telecommunications, as part of the wider internet censorship measures. 'The point is, when the internet is cut, the phones need to go somewhere, and that will go to the fallback message on the device,' he told CNN. Toker added it was a phenomenon NetBlocks had seen in different places around the world when internet access was cut. 'Sometimes it will have an advert for summer vacations and sometimes it will have some other nonsense,' he said. According to Toker, the messages are text-to-speech generated. He believes they appear to have been set up rapidly. 'It's in the format of a normal gateway answering message of the type you might get from a national gateway when a phone doesn't answer,' he said. 'It seems that they've gone with the settings, and there's a little box where you can put in the settings and they've put something in there, pre-AI generated.' Meanwhile, a U.K.-based telecommunications expert who listened to a recording of the most commonly heard message told CNN that 'the call appears to be hijacked after the second ring, which is highly unusual and deeply concerning. This suggests interference at the network level – well before a proper connection is established.' The expert asked not to be named for safety reasons. Neither Israel nor Iran has made a public statement on the recorded phone messages. Access to international internet services had been partially restored in parts of Iran on Saturday 'after approximately 62 hours of severe disruption,' NetBlocks said. 'While some regions have seen improvements, overall connectivity remains below ordinary levels, continuing to hinder people's ability to communicate freely and access independent information,' it added. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that international internet services would resume by 8 p.m. local time Saturday, citing the communications minister. However, Tasnim later reported that this was not the case, citing the same minister. According to the communications ministry, Iranians abroad can now contact their families inside Iran through domestic messaging apps. The Iranian government has frequently restricted internet access in the country. During nationwide protests in 2022, authorities implemented multiple internet shutdowns in an effort to stifle dissent. By Sophie Tanno.

'A Pandora's Box': Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Gains as Lawsuit Contains Serious Potential Pitfalls

The notion of artificial intelligence (AI) in the arts is as present as it is potentially calamitous. So when communications giant Comcast (CMCSA) decided to take on a comparative startup in the market it seemed like a clear response to conditions in the field. But Comcast may be letting itself in for more harm than good, a Bloomberg report noted. Despite this, shareholders are encouraged, and Comcast shares posted modest gains in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter Comcast, along with Disney (DIS), joined in a lawsuit targeting Midjourney, an AI company that has an image generator. And of course, a lot of AI generators turn to copyrighted materials to learn how to work. On a certain level, this is expected; let the human writer among us who was not influenced by copyrighted material—the works of another writer—throw the first stone on this one. But Comcast and Disney are going full-bore ahead with the lawsuits. And that, Bloomberg noted, is where the potential calamity lies. Disney and Comcast are presumably looking to turn to AI as well for their own projects. So while Disney and Comcast call Midjourney a 'bottomless pit of plagiarism,' they are finding themselves increasingly interested in dipping a toe in said pit, taking advantage of the staggering potential for productivity and cost savings therein. Indeed, as the Bloomberg report put it, '…when studios attempt to rein in the same technology that they're eagerly using elsewhere, the more urgent question isn't about retreat.' Independent Chair? No Way, Say Shareholders In a more mundane development, Comcast took a proposal to shareholders for an 'independent chair' of the Comcast board of directors. Such a chair, Comcast asserted, would be something of a check and balance to the power of Brian Roberts, current CEO of Comcast, who also serves as the current chair. But shareholders were happy enough with things as-is, and thus voted down the proposal. A second proposal called for consideration of 'CEO pay ratio,' or how much the CEO gets paid compared to the average employee, when considering executive pay. Shareholders apparently did not care about that either, as that proposal was likewise rejected. Is Comcast Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on CMCSA stock based on nine Buys, 10 Holds and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 10.97% loss in its share price over the past year, the average CMCSA price target of $41.44 per share implies 19.44% upside potential.
