Air India flight makes emergency landing in Thailand after bomb threat, no devices found

BANGKOK, Thailand - An Air India flight from Phuket bound for New Delhi received an onboard bomb threat on Friday and made an emergency landing back on the Thai island, airport authorities said.
All 156 passengers on flight AI 379 were escorted safely from the plane. No suspicious devices were found and there was no disruption to airport operations, authorities said.
The incident occurred after a message with a bomb threat was found in one of the plane's lavatories after takeoff, Phuket Airport general manager Monchai Tanode told a press conference,
"Police took suspects for questioning but could not clearly say who wrote the note," he said.
Air India official Debasish Choudhury said there were initially three suspects and all had been cleared.
India's airlines and its airports were inundated with hoax bomb threats last year, with close to 1,000 hoax calls and messages received in the first 10 months, nearly 10 times that of 2023.
The incident follows the crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad on Thursday shortly after takeoff, in which more than 240 people were killed. — Reuters

They said in a statement a passport used by the woman identified her as a 28-year-old born in Russia. They said investigations revealed her baby was registered less than a year ago with the US embassy in Malta. "Thanks to collaboration between the FBI and the Maltese authorities, the victims have probably been identified," the prosecutors in the Italian capital said in a statement. The two were found dead in one of Rome's biggest parks, Villa Pamphili, on June 7. Italian police said on June 15 that an American man was arrested on the Greek island of Skiathos accused of murdering the baby and hiding the woman's body. Some Italian media published images of the woman's tattoos to help identify her. The popular RAI television program "Chi l'ha visto?" ("Who has seen them?") reported on its website on Thursday that it had contacted a woman in Russia who claimed to have recognized her daughter's tattoos. It cited the woman as saying her daughter had gone to Malta to study English, where she met the US suspect, and that her last contact with her daughter was an email dated June 2 in which the young woman mentioned problems with her partner. Lander, who is among 11 Democratic candidates seeking to replace current Mayor Eric Adams, was shown in a video posted to his personal account on X being placed in handcuffs and led into an elevator by men in plainclothes, backward baseball caps and surgical masks. One man wore a vest that said "police federal agent." A post accompanying the video attributed to Lander's wife said he had been escorting a defendant out of immigration court when he was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. "I'm not obstructing, I'm standing right here in the hallway. I asked to see the judicial warrant," Lander says in the video. In Los Angeles, Democratic U.S. Senator Alex Padilla was forced to the ground and handcuffed by security last week after trying to ask DHS Secretary Kristi Noem a question about the Trump administration's immigration raids. Padilla said in remarks on the Senate floor on Tuesday that had he had been "pushed and pulled" and was "forced to the ground first on my knees and then flat on my chest." The DHS said at the time that Padilla had engaged in "disrespectful political theater". ICE raids triggered protests in Los Angeles this month, prompting Trump to send National Guard troops and U.S. Marines into the city, against the wishes of California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. The Trump administration has also charged Democratic U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver over a scuffle at the gate of a privately run immigration detention center on May 9 as lawmakers sought to conduct an oversight visit.
