Brighton set to enter Harvey Elliott transfer race and have secret weapon in bid to land Liverpool star

BRIGHTON are set to enter the race for Harvey Elliott - and have identified the Liverpool star as their key summer target.
The England international's future at Anfield is unclear, and his playing time last season was limited under Arne Slot.

That's put him on the radar of several clubs in England, and abroad, who are keen to secure the services of a versatile player who can operate in midfield or out wide.
SunSport understands Brighton are now tracking the 22-year-old and see him as a player who can help take them to the next level.
And sources say the presence of James Milner, Liverpool's former vice-captain, could help persuade Elliott to make the switch to the south coast.
Brighton are believed to have funds to spend and would be willing to pay up to £40million for Elliott who is desperate for more first-team football.

The Seagulls are also likely to lose Joao Pedro, who is being linked to Newcastle and Arsenal in a move which would free up additional cash for Brighton to spend on new players.
Reports last week linked Elliott with a move to Nottingham Forest.
But it was claimed he turned down the option of a move to the City Ground, as he felt Forest wouldn't suit his playing style.
There would be no such issue at Brighton, who are renowned for their attacking and open style of play.

Liverpool fans will be torn over any potential exit of Elliott who continues to be one of Liverpool's brightest young talents.
He demonstrated his versatility and creativity throughout last season's campaign, building on his breakthrough season in the 2022–23 campaign.

Although not a regular starter in every match, Elliott was a key squad player, often coming on as a substitute.
He made 45 appearances across all competitions, contributing four goals and three assists.
Slot is believed to be undecided on Elliott, although sources told the Sun the Dutchman would be unlikely to stand in his way if he wanted to leave and if a deal could be agreed that suited club and player.
Elliott could head for the Anfield exit door along with Jarrell Quansah, who is being linked with a £40million move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds are raising cash to fund a British record transfer fee for Florian Wirtz - the German is set for a medical on Merseyside.
Alexander Isak is also on the radar but Newcastle will demand a fee close to £200million.

Jack Draper revealed he was suffering with tonsillitis after making an angry exit from Queen's Club. The British number one smashed his racket, damaging a digital advertising hoarding and grazing his knee, as his semi-final against Jiri Lehecka slipped away from him. Draper explained he was low on energy due to the illness and was getting angry in a bid to gee himself up. But when world number 30 Lehecka fizzed a backhand past him to break for 6-5 in the deciding set, the 23-year-old exploded with rage. 'It was bit of everything, really,' he said. 'The way I was sort of playing at times. Obviously the fact that I've worked so hard to get myself in that position. I really tried to get myself up, get the energy going. 'When you see that ball go past you on that point, you know, it's very tough to see yourself breaking in the next game, although I tried my best on that. 'I don't condone that behaviour, but at the same time, that's kind of where I was at today. 'I was trying to use everything I could. I tried to compete every ball. But in the end, anger just spilled over a little bit too much.' Draper had sounded under the weather earlier in the week and discovered he had tonsillitis on Friday. 'I haven't felt good all week,' he added. 'I'm proud of the way I went about things, considering, but it's tough, because you're in a position where you're in a professional sport. 'You're an entertainer, an athlete, and you have no choice. No one cares, you know. So you've just got to go out there and do the best you can. I'm proud of that. I gave myself a chance. 'Today's probably the worst I've felt. Did I think about withdrawing? No, not at all. I'm in the semi-finals at Queen's. I'd probably go on court with a broken leg. I wouldn't have pulled out for anything. 'So I went out there, gave all I had, and I can be very proud of that. And also, it's not an excuse. It's just the way I feel. 'I lost today because I lost to a better tennis player. He was better than me in the key moments. He served better. I think he was a bit braver at times.' Liverpool target Marc Guéhi prepared to see out final year of Crystal Palace contract
Marc Guéhi will not be rushed into a decision on his future and is prepared to see out the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace if the right move does not materialise this summer. Palace are looking to cash in on the England defender, who is a target for Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham, but there is a possibility of the club losing one of their biggest assets on a free transfer next year. Guéhi, who has no intention of signing an extension, remains open-minded about his next destination and a big consideration for the 24-year-old is making sure that he has plenty of playing time next season. The former Chelsea centre-back, who played an integral role in Palace winning the FA Cup, needs to safeguard his place in the England squad before the 2026 World Cup. That means there is an obvious benefit in joining a club who can offer Guéhi a quick route into their starting XI. Liverpool have emerged as strong contenders to sign Guéhi and could bid for him once they sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £30m. A potential stumbling block, however, is that Liverpool still have the outstanding duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté as their first-choice pairing in central defence. Van Dijk, 33, has extended his contract with the Premier League champions and is showing no sign of slowing down. The sale of Quansah will leave Liverpool short of defensive cover. The 22-year-old centre-back made 25 appearances for Arne Slot's last season and can also play at right-back. Konaté is entering the final year of his deal and has struggled with injuries at times. Joe Gomez, another of Liverpool's defensive options, has been out since February with a hamstring injury. Guéhi will face a big decision if Liverpool follow up their interest in him by offering enough for Palace to sell. A chance to join the best team in England and work with Slot would be hard to turn down. At the same time there are indications that clubs who can immediately guarantee Guéhi regular football retain a good chance of signing him. Newcastle tried to buy Guéhi last summer, only to be put off by Palace's asking price of around £70m, and they remain in the mix after qualifying for the Champions League. Their current options at centre-back include three players in their 30s – Dan Burn, Fabian Schär and Jamaal Lascelles – and the 25-year-old Sven Botman, who missed much of last season through injury. Spurs, who have qualified for the Champions League, had an offer of £55m plus £15m in add-ons rejected in January. There seems little prospect of Chelsea following up preliminary interest in Guéhi. Guéhi staying at Palace for another year before leaving for nothing has not been ruled out. He can speak to foreign clubs about signing a pre-contract from January. For Palace, there is a question of making sure their demands remain realistic this summer. Interested clubs are unlikely to want to overpay for a player who is entering the final year of his contract.
