Florian Wirtz to earn four times Luiz Diaz and double England star at Liverpool

Florian Wirtz will become one of Liverpool's highest earners when he completes his £116million move from Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, with his wages eclipsing many of the current crop of players Florian Wirtz will make almost four times as much as Luis Diaz while playing for Liverpool. The attacking-midfielder arrived in the north west on Friday to complete a £116million switch from Bayer Leverkusen, which will make him not only Liverpool's record club-signing, but also one of the highest-paid players on the current wage bill. Darwin Nunez currently holds the record for most cash spent on a player, arriving from Benfica in 2022 in a deal worth up to as much as £85m, including add-ons. However, 22-year-old Wirtz will trump that figure and then some when he signs on the dotted line. ‌ Meanwhile, Wirtz is expected to be compensated generously over the course of a reported five-year contract, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the German national will receive £200,000 per week for his efforts, plus bonuses. For context, that's almost four times the £55,000 per week that Diaz currently receives, according to Spotrac. ‌ Mohamed Salah is the club's highest-paid star at present, reportedly raking in £400,000 per week as a result of his new deal, while Capology reports that Virgil van Dijk commands a weekly wage of around £350K. Wirtz will also earn more than Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch if rumours ring true, given that the midfielders earn a salary of £150,000 per week. Wirtz will also make more than double what England international Joe Gomez earns, with the 28-year-old centre-half on a salary of around £85,000 per week. Fresh from winning the Premier League this season, Arne Slot has wasted no time in bolstering his squad with hopes of defending the title in 2025/26. The Dutchman recruited full-back Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen on a five-year deal at the end of May after activating the 24-year-old's £29.5m release clause in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid. It appears as though he is keen on strengthening his defence further with the acquisition of Crystal Palace centre-half Marc Guehi. While Liverpool have made no formal offer for Guehi just yet, the Reds may be in the best position to secure his services should they decide to. The 24-year-old has entered the last year of his contract with the Eagles, but a deal will not come cheap, as evidenced by Newcastle United seeing four bids rejected for him last summer. Tottenham, meanwhile, have reportedly offered a package worth up to £70m to entice Guehi to north London in January, but saw their advances pushed back. Wirtz's arrival comes as Liverpool may look to break their own record transfer twice in the same summer, with Slot reportedly keen on signing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. ‌ The Swedish national has set the Premier League alight since making his way to St. James' Park from Real Sociedad in a £63m move back in 2022, scoring 62 goals in 109 games. However, should Liverpool hope to pry the 25-year-old away from the club he is seemingly settled at, they will have to pay a ridiculous amount of money. Under contract until 2028, Newcastle have slapped a hefty £150m price tag on Isak this summer, and Eddie Howe has reportedly urged the board not to let the talisman leave. He said: "Alex is under contract, we love him to bits, and we want him to stay. We want him to keep scoring goals for Newcastle for many years. That's my plan." Hibs transfer news as club land over £1 million for fringe forward

Hibs will pocket over £1 million for a fringe player who had fallen out of the first-team picture under gaffer David Gray, with Dutch club Heerenveen breaking the seven-figure barrier to land Dylan Vente. The centre forward, who cost the Easter Road club in excess of £500,000 when he was recruited by Lee Johnson in the summer of 2023, is expected to complete his move within the next 48 hours. The 26-year-old, now a full international for Suriname, was allowed to join PEC Zwolle on loan last season after Gray decided that the Dutchman didn't fit into his plans. Vente made the most of his opportunity to play in the Eredivisie, putting up impressive numbers and earning widespread praise for his performances. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The former Feyenoord prospect banged in 13 league goals, plus one in the cup, as Zwolle finished tenth in the table. That attracted the interest of Heerenveen, who finished just one place above PEC. Vente an early hit for Johnson AND Monty - but faded fast Vente, who joined Hibs from Dutch second-tier side Roda, was an early hit for Hibs, scoring on his debut in a famous Europa Conference League win over FC Luzern at Easter Road. Following Johnson's dismissal, the attacker then banged in three goals in Nick Montgomery's first three games as gaffer early in season 2023-24 – but only found the net three times over the next eight months as Hibs missed out on a top-six place on the final weekend before the Scottish Premiership split. The arrival of Scotland hopeful Kieron Bowie for a significant fee last summer forced Vente further down the pecking order as new gaffer Gray looked for a change of style at the top end of the team. Mykola Kuharevich also returned to Easter Road for another loan spell, while the acquisition of veteran free agent Dwight Gayle increased competition for places up front. With two years left on his contract at the time, Vente was keen to get game time elsewhere. Zwolle was an option that suited everyone, not least a Hibs football department keen to reduce overall numbers – while making 11 summer signings. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The impending sale of Vente underlines Gray's determination to change up his forward options ahead of the new season. Gayle's retirement, along with Kuharevich signing for Slovan Bratislava earlier this week, leaves Hibs short of bodies at the business end of the park. While a fully fit Bowie and a revitalised Martin Boyle, the latter tied down by a contract extension clause triggered just before the end of last season, represent an ideal first-choice pairing, Gray knows he needs multiple options – beyond Elie Youan – as he looks to compete on two fronts this season. He's still in the market for at least one more striker. Hibs remain in negotiations, meanwhile, with central defender Rocky Bushiri and attacking midfielder Junior Hoilett. Both are now free agents after their Easter Road contracts expired. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Bushiri has options in England and Europe – but has NOT definitely decided to leave Hibs. And veteran Canadian international Hoilett is still weighing up his options, with another season at Hibs considered a good option for a player trying to nail down a place in his country's World Cup squad. Sunderland are still talking with Nectar Triantis about his next step after the Australian midfielder's stand-out season with Hibs. Another loan is an option for the Premier League-bound Black Cats, who have put a £1 million price tag on any permanent move for the 22-year-old.

Arne Slot's incredible Liverpool XI with four new signings and revamped defence

Liverpool are ready to splash some serious cash to bolster their title-winning squad ahead of the 2025-26 campaign with Arne Slot set to have a host of new faces at his disposal for the new season For Arne Slot, it was pretty much the dream maiden season at Liverpool. But the Dutchman and Anfield's top brass are not resting on their laurels after unexpectedly cantering to Premier League glory. After a quiet summer transfer window last year, the Reds have sprung into action ahead of the 2025-26 campaign: Jeremie Frimpong is already in the door with his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate, Florian Wirtz, also on the verge of completing a blockbuster switch for a British record transfer fee. ‌ But the spending is not expected to stop there with further deals already in the pipeline with the potential for even more to follow. ‌ Milos Kerkez is expected to become Liverpool's third summer signing with progress being made on a deal which would see the Hungary international join from Bournemouth. And Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace captain, is of interest to replace Jarell Quansah if he completes a switch to Bayer Leverkusen. With that in mind, Liverpool could line up with a new look defence next season as they bid to defend their domestic crown. In goal, Alisson will likely start the campaign as No.1. But he has fresh competition for the jersey in Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is set to link up with the Reds after agreeing to join from Valencia last summer. Kerkez and Frimpong will give Slot new weaponry to deploy in the full-back areas. Both are capable of playing further forward, too, giving Slot the scope to change shape and play with wing-backs if wanted. That could lead to a back three with Guehi alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who would be expected to start the season as Liverpool's first-choice centre-back pairing. ‌ Join the debate! What have you made of Liverpool's summer transfer business? Let us know here But Guehi will be confident of breaking up that monopoly sooner rather than later, though, after a stellar season for Crystal Palace and there's every chance he could come straight in if Liverpool pay a premium price for the England star and decide to stick with a flat back four. In midfield, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch can sit in and give Wirtz the freedom to pull the strings further up the pitch following his record-breaking move from Bayer Leverkusen. ‌ Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz will be hoping to benefit from Wirtz's arrival with the former enjoying his best ever season last time out. Up front, Darwin Nunez is unlikely to lead the line with a summer exit mooted. Liverpool will replace him, albeit it remains to be seen who with, so that could open the door for Diogo Jota to start the season as the Reds' No.9. Potential Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Guehi, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Salah, Diaz, Jota. Kostas Tsimikas shares Arne Slot's golden rule that changed it all for Liverpool

Arne Slot led Liverpool to Premier League glory in his first season in the dugout and defender Kostas Tsimikas has opened up on what the Dutchman changed after succeeding Jurgen Klopp Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has opened up on the tactical tweaks put in place by manager Arne Slot in his first season in charge. Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024, won the Premier League title at the first time of asking. Defensive solidity was key in the early part of the season. Slot's Reds didn't concede at all until the fourth game of the season, and let in just three goals in their first eight games to open up a lead at the top which they never surrendered. ‌ "Slot changed the whole tactical approach," Tsimikas told Greek outlet Sport24. "The detail he put into every workout was incredible, in some things that were the A and Z for him. ‌ "One of them is defence in five seconds. He set a rule, when we lose possession all players must be behind the ball within five seconds "This instruction, along with his tactical mind, with the new ideas, with the way we would play, all of this together was what we were missing in previous years to win the championship. When you defend with 10 men and a goalkeeper, it's something very important, that was the first thing he told us from day one, that this is exactly what he wants." Tactics weren't the be all and end all, though. Slot's new ideas helped the team improve on the previous season, when they finished third under Klopp, but the former Feyenoord boss needed his players to be committed to the cause. "In every meeting we had before the game, he used to say a line that I think is the most important: 'Beyond all the tactics I can show you and tell you how to play, if you don't put your feet up, if you don't really want it, there's no way we're going to win anything,'" Tsimikas added. Slot isn't resting on his laurels after clinching the title. He has already spoken about the potential for new additions, with Florian Wirtz due to join in a club record deal following the arrivals of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Jeremie Frimpong. ‌ "I don't know if it's going to be a lot but we know, the club, Richard [Hughes], the ownership, we are all aligned on what we are trying to achieve," Slot told Sky Sports in May. "It is already very, very positive that we kept Mo and Virgil and a few others that we are trying to sign look positive. "We are very happy with the squad that we have. This club has always shown that if they can strengthen, that's what we do. Big summer or not, it is already big because we won the league." Things Not To Do When Visiting These Different Countries

Recently, u/Neat_Foundation3669 asked r/AskReddit, "What's big 'no no' to do in your country?" So we thought we'd share some of the top responses. "Don't climb the pyramids." – Egypt. "Please don't disrespect the wildlife, or the weather. I'm Canadian." "Please respect the nature and don't litter. Sincerely, the Finns. (No, seriously, you will make the news if your tourist group trashes)." "Refrain from refering to the Republic of Ireland as part of the UK." "Dutchman here. Don't walk in the bike lane and pay the fuck attention to where you're walking." "When a cop pulls you over, do NOT get out of the car." – The US. "Not my country but advised when visiting Australia – DO NOT walk in the long grass." "You can't mess around with the King's guards. Tourists do it all the time. They're highly trained soldiers in the armed forces and the rifles they carry are not props." – The UK. "Italian here, you hear all over the place about no cappuccinos in the afternoon or no broken spaghetti, etc. But the truth is that no one here actually gives a fuck about it. 99% of the time it's just stereotypes perpetrated by Instagram reels. The only one that might get you in trouble is pineapple on pizza, but even then the outrage is WAY less than the internet influencers make it out to be." "Don't disrespect the cats. Don't shoo them. Give them a pet or some food and get on. Those little dudes may be the only redeeming quality of our society these days." "In Cambodian culture, the head is considered the most sacred part of the body, while the feet are seen as the lowest. Touching someone's head, even if it's a child, is a big no-no. Similarly, avoid pointing your feet at people or sacred objects. (Not Cambodian but spent a lot of time there, and wish more tourists were more aware of this)." "Avoid saying 'Happy Birthday' before someone's actual birthday date." – Germany "American – standing too close to people while in a line is a faux pas. It's not moving faster just because you're as close to the person in front of you as possible. We value personal space here. Back up." "France – don't enter a shop/restaurant without saying 'hello'/acknowledging the cashier/staff. Best case scenario is you get a cold stare, but they might also very well call you publicly on it, tourist or not…" "Swedish person here. To walk inside with your shoes on is a big no no. Even if you're only going to fetch something quickly you take them off (at least in someone else's home)." "It's not usual to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know – people will become shocked and awkward! (Denmark – or any Scandinavian country really)." "Here in Belgium it's a huge NO No to serve a beer in the wrong glass." "Portugal. Please don't try to speak Spanish to us lol, it's not the same language. We're very nice people so we'll still talk to you while internally rolling our eyes." "In the Netherlands we do not talk about our salaries. That is reserved for the most closest of friends/ family."
