Tucked into one of Mayfair's quieter corners, the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square offers something that's getting increasingly rare in central London: space, calm, and a reassuring sense of familiarity. It's understated, polished, and gently proud of its heritage. This was the very first Marriott (the 'Original' Marriott) to open in London back in 1985, and while it's had several updates since then, it still carries that original sense of welcome. There's something comforting about walking into a place that feels like it's seen the city grow around it and kept up without ever trying too hard. If you're a Friends fan, you might recognise the hotel from 'The One With Ross's Wedding.' It's the very door Chandler and Joey emerge from, camera in hand. It's a subtle claim to fame, but one that adds to the character of the place. The location is one of its biggest assets. Just a five-minute walk from Oxford Street, yet far enough to escape the noise. You're surrounded by some of London's best boutiques, cafés, and leafy squares. It's ideal for visitors who want central access without the usual buzz of tourist-heavy areas. Check-in was smooth and warm, and the staff throughout the stay were thoughtful without being intrusive. There's an open square-shaped courtyard at the heart of the property, giving the whole space a sense of airiness, especially refreshing during London's rare sunny spells. I was lucky to catch one of those days, and the whole neighbourhood seemed to soften under the light. I stayed in a spacious guest room with a small balcony. A quiet outdoor nook like that in the middle of Mayfair feels like a bonus. The interiors are contemporary, yet they still nod to the hotel's older charm. Good lighting, a generous work desk, and a bed that's hard to leave in the morning. If you're a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member or above, I recommend booking a Club-level room for access to the M Club. It's a peaceful space, especially for business travellers, with a great breakfast spread and all-day snacks. Yes, waffles were included, and yes, they were excellent. The hotel has also played a role in London's dining scene. It was once home to Maze by Gordon Ramsay, and today it continues that legacy with the Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill and the more recently opened Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay. Both are worth a visit, whether you're staying at the hotel or not. The Luggage Room, the hotel's hidden speakeasy, also deserves a mention. It's discreet and dimly lit, the kind of place that feels like a local secret even when it isn't. The gym is well-equipped and neatly laid out: not a forgotten corner, but a real fitness centre. That's something I always appreciate in a hotel, especially on longer stays or work trips. Between that, the M Club, and the consistent service, it's easy to feel looked after here without being fussed over. The Marriott Grosvenor Square isn't flashy, and that's part of its appeal. It offers a grounded, comfortable experience in a historic part of London, with everything you need close by. It's been modernised, but not in a way that erases its personality. Whether you're coming to London for shopping, shows, meetings, or simply to enjoy the city at your own pace, this hotel fits the mood. You check out feeling rested, well-fed, and like you've had your own little pocket of Mayfair for a while. I'll absolutely return. Saudi Arabia Multiple Entry eVisa For GCC Expats: How UAE Residents Can Apply Online
Are you planning to travel to Saudi Arabia soon? If so, expatriates residing in the UAE or other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can apply for a one-year multiple-entry eVisa. This visa provides ample time for business trips, visiting friends and family, exploring the country, and even performing Umrah (excluding the Hajj season). UAE expatriates can apply for the eVisa through Saudi Arabia's unified visa platform, launched in 2023, at Duration and validity of Saudi eVisa for GCC residents Visa types – Single or multiple entry . . Visa period – 90 days for single entry and one year for multiple entry and Duration of stay in Saudi Arabia – 90 days The residency document should be valid for at least three months.• The passport must be valid for at least six months.• The minimum age of applicants should be 18 years old, if they are travelling without their parents. • Passport photo with white background.• Passport copy.• UAE residence visa page copy On the homepage, click on the 'Visit' category and select the following options from the drop-down menu:• Select 'tourism' as the purpose of the visit.• Enter your nationality.• Select 'Valid residence in the GCC countries (No less than three months)' from the drop-down on 'Show Eligible Visas'. You will be provided with two options – transit visa and Electronic Visa (e-visa). Click on 'Apply Now' under the eVisa option. You also have the option to select 'I do not work at the moment'.• Enter your occupation title – this is mandatory. If you selected the 'I do not work at the moment' option, you do not need to enter anything.• Enter your date of birth. Next, answer the question –'What do you plan on doing during your stay?' but this is optional. You can select Umrah, leisure or visit friends and family from the drop-down menu. Then, upload a recent, coloured passport-sized photograph with a white background. When you are uploading the photo, it must meet the following requirements:• Photo size – 35x45mm• Use a plain background• Face the camera directly with your head straight• Neutral facial expression.• No smiling and mouth should be closed• Ensure proper lighting to avoid shadows• Dress appropriately for the visa applicationYou must upload the photograph in PNG or JPEG format, with the maximum file size being 5MB. • Upload your passport copy scan.• Select your passport type.• Enter your passport number.• Select the country of issuance.• Enter plate of birth.• Enter the passport issue and expiry date. • Upload your UAE residency visa – to find out how to access a digital copy of your UAE residency visa, click here.• Enter your visa number.• Enter your UAE residence visa expiry date.• Enter the emirate you reside in and your address. Then, review the details in your application and click 'Next'. • Next, answer a few questions for the medical insurance coverage by selecting 'yes' or 'no'.• Click 'Next' and select a medical insurance provider in Saudi Arabia. You will also be able to view the cost of each provider. Once you have selected a medical insurance company, you will be able to review the cost of the visa application, including the insurance cost. Click on 'Pay Now' and pay for the application online with your credit or debit card. After the payment is confirmed, you will receive a transaction number to track the application.
