"How can global community allow continuous legitimisation of Pakistan sponsored terrorism?": Congress leader Pawan Khera

India Gazette05-06-2025

New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): Congress leader Pawan Khera on Thursday decried the 'continuous legitimisation of Pakistan sponsored terrorism' by the international community, highlighting that while India carried out Operation Sindoor, Pakistan is getting multiple loans, also getting to chair the UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee and be vice chair of UNSC Counter Terrorism Committee.
Khera also said that loans to Pakistan and its role in the UNS committee also reflect on India's 'foreign policy collapse.'

Khera highlighted that Pakistan has received a USD 1 billion loan by International Monetary Fund (IMF) on May 9; USD 40 billion from World Bank on under the Country Partnership Framework (CPF); and recently on June 4 A USD 800 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
'And on June 4 Pakistan gets elected as Chairman of UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee and Vice Chairman of UNSC Counter Terrorism Committee. Of course, this is the sad story of our own foreign policy collapse but how can the global community allow this continuous legitimisation of sponsorship of terrorism by Pakistan,' Khera said in a post on X.
Pakistan is set to chair the United Nations Security Council's Taliban Sanctions Committee in 2025, which is responsible for enforcing sanctions, asset freezes, travel bans and arms embargo against people or organisations which are associated with the Taliban. Pakistan will also serve as the vice-chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee this year, which was established after the September 11 attacks in the US, which looks to implement various measures to counter terrorist activities across the world.
Earlier today, all party delegation member and former Indian envoy to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu also questioned Pakistan's credibility in chairing the UNSC committee.
'On the UN, it also implies how seriously Pakistan will take terrorism, especially when such a responsible position they are given. A very high-power parliamentary delegation led by Mr Bhutto is here - how much authority and power the Generals or Marshal side has given to them?' Sandhu said.
Sandhu is part of the all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor which is currently in US as part of a diplomatic outreach to put forward India's stance against terrorism. At the same time, Pakistan has also sent a delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto, where he addressed a briefing at the UN headquarters in New York. (ANI)

French literature influences writers and politicians in Kerala: Tharoor

T'puram: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stressed the cultural bond between France and Kerala, stating that French literature had a deep influence on writers and politicians of the state. Speaking at the launch of the 'Pardon My French' bookshelf at DC Books, organised by the French Institute of India on Thursday, Tharoor said, "French culture and ideas have seeped into our consciousness through political writing, appreciation and values of democracy, liberty, equality and fraternity." He noted that the extraordinary contribution of French writers opened new ways of thinking. "More than 100 years ago, in a transformative act of literary vision, Nalappat Narayana Menon translated Victor Hugo's Les Misérables into Malayalam as 'Paavangal'. It was a cultural transplantation and the soil of Kerala received it not just out of curiosity but with gratitude and a bit of revolutionary fervour. Our famous communist leader, EMS Namboothiripad, said 'Paavangal' was one of the sparks that led him to communism. Writers like Thagazhi and O V Vijayan have said that in the translated works of French writing, they found a new idiom of empathy, a new narrative possibility and a new lens through which to view the oppressed and the invisible. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo With 'Paavangal', Malayalam found a weapon for awakening and that engagement partly contributed to the decades of remarkable visionary and social ferment in Kerala from the 1930s onwards," Tharoor said. He also mentioned that many other Malayalis started to translate works of French and Russian fiction and modernist works and that's how the doors to people like Guy de Maupassant, Victor Hugo and Émile Zola were opened to Malayali minds. "That's how many Malayalis discovered the challenges of realism and introspection in a literature that mirrors society and questions it," he added. "The French, in many ways, have a cultural affinity to us, including in our great conversational habit. The habit of sitting around and discussing over coffee. The Bengali adda, the Malayali tea shop. This is France, except that it is taking place in our languages," he said.

CM should write to Prez against guv: Venugopal

Kottayam: AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said that the governor is degrading the constitutional position he holds. He demanded that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan should write to the President about it. Venugopal told reporters in Alappuzha on Saturday that the post of the governor is the highest constitutional post in a state. "He has decided to forfeit its value. It is not a post that should be used for selfish political interests. The President should intervene in such matters. The CM should write a letter to the President at the earliest, pointing out that the governor is misusing his post," he said. Venugopal also asked why the CM is not ready for it. He said that the finance minister's announcement that welfare pension will be provided from the 20th of this month was only to influence the voters of Nilambur and misuse the election. This is a blatant violation of the election code of conduct. The Election Commission should take this seriously. The UDF will consider filing a complaint, he said. He said that during the Nilambur byelection, he strongly criticised the way welfare pension is being distributed in arrears. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "Welfare pension is the right of the common man. They are entitled to receive it without arrears. This is the govt that came to power saying that welfare pension would be increased to Rs 2,500. Now, even as their term is about to end, it is only Rs 1,600," he added. Venugopal said UDF is confident that it will win the Nilambur byelection. "It is because of this certainty that the LDF has not paid the pension. There has never been another election where there was so much unity in the UDF. The Muslim League was more enthusiastic than the Congress. Sadikkali Thangal and P K Kunhalikutty worked as if it were their own election. The IUML cadres worked with more enthusiasm than they would have worked for an IUML candidate. All the leaders and cadres of the Congress worked together in unison," Venugopal said. The AICC general secretary also said Shashi Tharoor is an indivisible factor of the Congress. "Congress is a party that ensures freedom of expression. Congress has its own ideas and goals. Everyone has instructions to go along with it. The party has the right to take action if that 'Lakshman Rekha' is violated anywhere. Congress is not a party that violates anyone's freedom of expression and freedom of movement," Venugopal said in response to a question.

Trump says he deserves Nobel Peace Prize for global diplomacy, including India and Pakistan efforts

Washington, DC [US], June 22 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has said he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic efforts in resolving various global conflicts, including a cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. Speaking to reporters after landing in New Jersey, Trump mentioned several instances where, in his view, his actions merited the prestigious award. 'They should give me the Nobel Prize for Rwanda, and if you look at Congo, or you could say Serbia, Kosovo, you could say a lot of them. I mean, the big one is India and Pakistan,' he said. 'I should have gotten it four or five times. I would think the Abraham Accords would be a good one too. But they won't give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals,' he added. Trump also highlighted his efforts with India and Pakistan, stating, 'We did a very great job with India and Pakistan. And we had India in. It looks like we're going to be making a great deal with India and Pakistan.' When asked about the reports of planes landing in Iran from China, Trump responded, 'They say that they're there to take people out. But I can't tell you about that.' He also commented on his rapport with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying, 'I get along very well with China. I get along very well with President Xi. I like him. He likes me. We have a very good relationship. I can't imagine them getting involved.' Since the start of the Israel-Iran war on June 12, several Internet users have been claiming that China is secretly supporting Iran militarily, based on images from Flightradar24 (a website that tracks real-time aircraft movements), France 24 reported. On Monday, a pro-Iranian account on X called SilencedSirs claimed that 'two giant cargo planes flying from China to Iran turned off their tracking signals before entering Iranian airspace'. According to SilencedSirs, the proof is two-fold: a video shared in a post viewed over six million times made by a supposed media outlet called Prime Scope, and a screenshot of an aircraft's route tracked by Flightradar24, purporting to show one of the planes in Iranian airspace. According to France 254, since Friday, many Internet users have also been sharing other Flightradar24 images purporting to show several flights from China entering Iran. (ANI)
