DRIVERS in Carlisle face major disruption as roadworks continue to affect key routes across the city.
If you want to avoid getting stuck in traffic due to roadworks, an interactive map can help you plan your journey.
The map, on the Cumberland Council website, has revealed where Carlisle drivers are most likely to get stuck behind roadworks.

The map can also show incidents, live traffic and diversions. You can also filter what level of roadworks the map shows – from high impact to all works.
Carlisle city centre tops the list for high-impact roadworks, particularly English Street, Victoria Viaduct and Devonshire Street. This is due to the regeneration around the city centre and Greenmarket, which has now been extended until August.
Further disruption is being caused by construction on the Southern Link Road, with Wigton Road, Dalston Road, and Peter Lane seeing closures and reduced access. Temporary speed limits are also in place.

There are multi-way traffic lights at Borland Avenue until the end of May. This is due to utility repair and maintenance works. Northern Gas Networks are also working in Eden Street, where there are similar signals.

I-80 fully reopens through New Jersey after sinkhole repairs

Interstate 80 has fully reopened through New Jersey after months of repairs and delays due to sinkholes. The sinkhole problem began in December 2024, at first leading to a brief fix before more holes opened and authorities shut down I-80 eastbound entirely in February. 'I am thrilled to see all lanes of I-80 open safely this weekend so we can ensure that New Jerseyans can get to where they need to go efficiently and safely,' Gov. Phil Murphy said Thursday in a statement. I-80 eastbound reopened in full on Saturday. The westbound lanes reopened June 14. The extensive delays, beginning in February, created a nightmare route for anyone traveling through Wharton and for residents of the town about 30 miles west of Central Park. When the project began, officials said the delays would continue indefinitely. But in April, a timeline was set to complete the construction by mid-June. 'I want to thank the thousands of New Jerseyans who have been impacted by these sinkholes for their patience as we worked to secure this roadway,' Murphy said in his statement. The sinkholes were caused by an abandoned mine under the road — one of 600 such mines throughout New Jersey. When the first sinkhole opened in December, crews tried to patch up the single gap and reopen the highway, only to find more and larger holes opening two months later, forcing the larger operation.

'Idiot' drivers get out of cars and block emergency crews on hard shoulder amid M60 incident

Motorists stuck in queues for hours on the M60 on Sunday (June 22) have slammed 'idiot' drivers blocking emergency crews from using the hard shoulder and getting out of their vehicles. Fire crews, police and paramedics attended the incident on the clockwise carriageway near Sale following a concern for welfare report and a man being on the wrong side of the bridge. A full closure was put in place on the motorway while emergency crews responded. Drivers became stuck in miles of congestion as traffic was temporarily stopped. But amid the incident, those stuck in the closure claimed 'idiot' drivers were using the hard shoulder and blocking emergency vehicles, with motorway cameras showing people out of their vehicles and standing on the carriageway. "We have been sitting on the M60, having entered from the A56 heading towards Carrington Spur, for around two hours now," one person said. "A crowd of idiots then decided that they might be able to exit via the hard shoulder but just widened the traffic jam. Then more emergency vehicles tried to get through and really struggled. We all had to squeeze three lanes into two to accommodate those blocking the hard shoulder." Another said: "A major incident has occurred and ambulances are unable to get through due to various vehicles driving on the hard shoulder." A post on social media shared by another frustrated motorist added: "Sat on the M60 heading home and loads of cars have decided to drive down the hard shoulder and block the entire route for all the emergency services." A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At just after 4.45pm today (Sunday 22 June) fire crews were called to reports of a man on the wrong side of the bridge on the M60 clockwise from junction 8 to 9. 'Two fire engines from Sale and Salford along with the Technical Response Unit from Leigh quickly attended the scene. 'Crews are working alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service and remain in attendance.' Greater Manchester Police also confirmed they were in attendance following a concern for welfare call. The clockwise carriageway between junctions six and eight remained closed for a number of hours into Sunday night. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "M60 clockwise between J6 Sale and J8 Stretford remains closed whilst we and emergency service partners deal with an ongoing incident. The cooperation and patience of the public is appreciated whilst we work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion." --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life. Nobody hurt as car crashes into pizza restaurant

Staff and diners have escaped injury after a car crashed into the side of a pizza restaurant. Emergency services were called to Pizza Is Lovely on Stokes Croft, close to the Cheltenham Road junction in Bristol, at about 16:45 BST after a black BMW was driven into a window in the building. The business was open at the time of the incident, but staff confirmed that nobody in the restaurant was injured. The driver has been taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be serious. In a statement, Pizza Is Lovely said that they will have to close while repair work is carried out. Images from the scene show Stokes Croft closed with a large emergency services response at the scene. A partial road closure is in place heading inbound towards The Bearpit roundabout while recovery work is carried out, police said. Follow BBC Bristol on Facebook, X and Instagram.
