How Radhika Apte Has Normalised Nudity On Screen, Done Bold Scenes From Parched To Sister Midnight
Last Updated:
Radhika Apte does not shout from rooftops about going 'bold' in films. She does it with nonchalance, like she has for multiple roles, including the recent one in Sister Midnight.
Radhika Apte Bold Roles: Over the last decade, Radhika Apte has carved out a space in Indian and international cinema that defies conventional norms. While many actresses shy away from roles involving nudity or vulnerability — often for fear of being typecast — Radhika has chosen to lean into characters that require a certain physical and emotional nakedness. It's not for provocation, and rarely for glamour. Instead, it seems like a choice rooted in the script and character.
What separates her from others who have played 'bold" roles is the absence of performance for attention. She doesn't market herself as fearless, but simply does the work — and lets the work speak for itself. Directors, from Anurag Kashyap to Leena Yadav, have often trusted her with characters that navigate complex emotional terrains — where nudity, as and when it appears, is part of the narrative arc, not a shortcut to headlines. Recently, CBFC ordered to remove a nudity scene from Karan Kandhari's 'Sister Midnight', Radhika Apte's most-recent release, which has now hit OTT platform Tubi, with an 'A' certificate.
Here's a list of boldest scenes in Radhika Apte's film career:
That Day After Everyday (2013)
In Anurag Kashyap's short film, Radhika plays one of three women confronting street harassment. Though there is no explicit nudity, the subtle physicality — bruises on face and a visibly guarded posture — convey a body that has been hurt and transforming. The film brought her physical expression into the foreground, turning it into a tool of empowerment rather than reducing it to just sexuality. Radhika had once opened up on how she connected immediately with the film's message. 'As Indian women we get eve‑teased a lot… it was really easy to connect," she had said.
Badlapur (2015)
In the film Radhika Apte played Koko, whose cameo included a disturbing scene where she's coerced into undressing by Varun Dhawan's character. The moment was uncomfortable and served the film's dark tone rather than aiming for titillation. Radhika was lauded for delivering it with restraint, letting discomfort and tension take the lead than just nudity. True to form, she never sensationalised it — treating the scene as part of the narrative, not a publicity hook.
Parched (2016)
Leena Yadav's Parched marked a major turning point in Radhika Apte's career. Radhika's portrayal of Lajjo included a leaked nude scene that made waves online and dominated headlines. In a chat with The News Minute, she said, 'A female body is not just sexual. But this is a trap men are prone to too, not just women. that was a step towards feeling more liberated about my body. You watch a certain thing, you read a certain way, you aspire to be that person who doesn't have inhibitions. But actually taking that step to be that, to practice what you believe in. Taking that step made me feel happy."
Madly (2016)
In Anurag Kashyap's 'Clean Shaven" segment from the anthology 'Madly", Radhika Apte plays Archana, a woman navigating marital trauma. Her character forms a connection with her neighbour Allwyn (Adarsh Gourav), culminating in a scene of brief frontal nudity — driven solely by vulnerability, not provocation.
When stills from the tastefully shot short leaked online, Radhika called the scene 'extremely liberating," saying it helped her shed deep-rooted body insecurities. Her performance earned her the Best Actress award at Tribeca Film Festival. Opening up on the scene, Anurag Kashyap told The Times Of India in an interview, 'It took us so much time to do it in a non-sexual way, as it is meant to be absolutely non-sexual and we took all the care we could. It was not easy to find an actor who is brave enough to participate in it. And then, all of a sudden after a month from nowhere, this video popped up online."
The Wedding Guest (2018)
In this film, Radhika Apte starred opposite Dev Patel, playing Samira, a young bride-to-be caught in a cross-border kidnapping plot. While the film is filled with suspense, the moment that truly lingered with the audience was the intimate love scene between Samira and Jay (Dev Patel). The scene was leaked online but grabbed eyeballs not for eroticism, but for how emotionally raw it felt . The scene earned critical praise for both its restraint and realism.
When the leaked stills became the talking point, Radhika said, as reported in Republic, 'The film… has many other beautiful sequences and the fact that one particular sex scene got leaked because of the psychotic mentality of society."
Sister Midnight (2024)
On the personal front, Radhika Apte and her husband, Benedict Taylor, welcomed their first child in December 2024.

Will Karisma Kapoor's Children Inherit Sunjay Kapur's Rs 10,000 Crore Fortune? Here's What Law Says
Last Updated: Sunjay Kapur's death has triggered a swirl of speculation regarding the succession of his business empire and personal wealth The untimely death of billionaire industrialist Sunjay Kapur has left a deep void in both the corporate boardrooms and celebrity circles he straddled with equal ease. The 57-year-old chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading global player in automotive components, died suddenly on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in London. Medical reports suggest a rare and fatal anaphylactic shock, reportedly triggered after he accidentally swallowed a bee during the match. While tributes continue to pour in for the visionary businessman who took his father's company global, the spotlight has now shifted to the inevitable and complicated question: Who inherits his estimated Rs 10,300 crore ($1.2 billion) fortune? Sunjay Kapur's death has triggered a swirl of speculation regarding the succession of his business empire and personal wealth. At the time of his passing, Sona Comstar had a market capitalisation of approximately Rs 31,000 crore ($4 billion). Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly with operations in India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the United States, becoming a major supplier to global electric vehicle manufacturers. Following the tragedy, Sona Comstar issued a public statement assuring stakeholders of business continuity and respect for Kapur's legacy. However, no official announcement has been made regarding a successor, and the company now stands at a delicate crossroads. Kapur leaves behind a complex family tree and a potentially contentious estate. He was married three times and is survived by three children: Samaira (20) and Kian (14) from his second wife, actress Karisma Kapur, and six-year-old Azariyas from his third and current wife, Priya Sachdev. He also acted as a stepfather to Priya's daughter from a previous marriage. Indian inheritance law adds another layer to the unfolding drama. As per the Hindu Succession Act of 1956, children are entitled to a share of their father's property – regardless of the parents' marital status at the time of death. While a legally drafted will can override typical inheritance rules, sources close to the family suggest no public confirmation has been made regarding such a document. If a will does exist, it could designate specific allocations – possibly even excluding some heirs. But in the absence of one, the estate would be distributed among his legal heirs, including all biological children and his surviving spouse, Priya Sachdev. Kapur's high-profile marriage to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor ended in 2016, but not without legal safeguards for their two children. According to divorce settlement details reported at the time, Sunjay Kapur had already set aside bonds worth Rs 14 crore each for Samaira and Kian, along with a monthly income of Rs 10 lakh. Karisma was also awarded his father's Mumbai residence under the Supreme Court-monitored alimony agreement, and she received full custody of both children. Still, these arrangements pertain only to child support and post-divorce alimony. Whether Samaira and Kian will receive a larger portion of Kapur's corporate and personal wealth remains uncertain and could depend on the existence and contents of a valid will. Priya Sachdev, Kapur's third wife, is widely expected to be a principal beneficiary of his estate. Not only is she the mother of his youngest son, Azariyas, but she was also his spouse at the time of death. In the eyes of the law, she holds a strong claim over the late tycoon's assets. Before marrying Kapur, Sachdev was married to businessman Vikram Chatwal, with whom she had a daughter. Sunjay Kapur was known to have embraced both children as part of his family. As of now, some media reports suggest that Kapur's sisters may be considered for management roles within Sona Comstar, though the company has made no official announcement. In the meantime, the boardroom remains without its captain, and the estate, without a publicly named heir. The case surrounding Sunjay Kapur's inheritance is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks, once legal proceedings and probate processes begin. Until then, his multi-crore legacy hangs delicately between bloodlines, boardrooms, and legalities. First Published:

Meet Shubh, the second Punjabi artiste after Diljit Dosanjh to grace Billboard Canada and sell out North American arenas
Shubh, the India-born, Brampton-based Punjabi singer, has made history by becoming the second Indian and second Punjabi artiste to appear solo on the cover of Billboard Canada. The only other Indian artist to receive this honour is global icon Diljit Dosanjh. This milestone marks a turning point not just for Shubh, but for Punjabi music worldwide. It signals a growing global appreciation for regional Indian sounds, with Shubh at the forefront of this movement. Coinciding with his Billboard feature, Shubh is set to begin his debut North American tour this August. The tour will begin at Oakland Arena on August 22, followed by Vancouver's Rogers Arena on August 23, and a major show at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena on September 5 - a stage once graced by legends like Eminem. The tour wraps up at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on September 7. 'I never expected this,' Shubh says about the arena tour. 'But I'm very happy that we're performing in arenas.' He also recalls his first concert in 2023 at Indigo at the O2 in London. 'My voice was shaking,' he admits. 'I was very hyped up, but it also humbled me down.' Earlier this year, Shubh released 'Sicario', a 10-track album that debuted at No. 24 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. The album, with over 250 million streams, blends Punjabi lyrics with modern hip-hop. Tracks like 'Buckle Up' and 'Aura' highlight his versatility. Following Sicario, his single Supreme became a viral hit. It debuted on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, hit No. 1 on Apple Music India and Canada, and continues to stream over 1 million times a day on Spotify. Shubh's rise shows that Punjabi music is not only thriving but going global.
