4 PSG players Arne Slot has been warned about as Liverpool's rival 'transformed'

Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain was one of the standout ties to come out of the Champions League last 16 draw, and the first leg is finally upon us.
The Reds are the favorites to progress by virtue of their form over the course of the season, but PSG has not lost since a narrow defeat away to Bayern Munich last November, and looks to be benefitting from its decision to scrap its Galactico transfer policy in recent times.
Just a few seasons ago, PSG was lining up with a front three of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi, but the team simply couldn't afford to indulge all three of them.

Under manager Luis Enrique, though, with a younger squad including plenty of lesser-known players, PSG has looked like a much more complete team and there are some people who are tipping the French champion to eliminate Liverpool.
Ahead of the game, French football pundit Pierre Menes named four PSG players who have "completely transformed" Enrique's exciting young team and could be key to its chances against Liverpool..
'One obvious factor is the team's current form,' Menes said on his YouTube channel, Pierrot Le Foot, when assessing PSG's chances of getting the better of Liverpool over two legs. 'At the start of the season, we can't forget that Luis Enrique didn't call up [Ousmane] Dembele for the Arsenal match, Barcola was struggling, [Fabian] Ruiz wasn't making progress, Joao Neves had just joined… and most importantly, Desire Doue was still adjusting.
'Now, though, Doue is thriving, and Dembele has been an incredible revelation as a center-forward. [Bradley] Barcola has regained his effectiveness, and Ruiz is almost playing at the same level he does with Spain.
'Just those four players have completely transformed the team. Aside from some occasional dips in form, I don't see any reason why PSG would slip again.'

Real Madrid ‘still not perfect,' but it owned Charlotte in FIFA Club World Cup

Charlotte belonged to Real Madrid on Sunday. That was true on the scoreboard. That was true in the Bank of America Stadium seats. It was true during the game. After the game. It was even true before the game — hours before — as Uptown Charlotte got enveloped by the 70,248 people who attended the first of four FIFA Club World Cup matches the city will host. Advertisement Everyone felt that the La Liga giant had Charlotte in the palm of its hand. Even if, by Real Madrid's own evaluation, the team wasn't the best version of itself in its 3-1 win over CF Pachuca, a Mexican club. 'Still not perfect,' Jude Bellingham, the Real Madrid midfielder, said postgame. 'But that's the beauty of it.' The crowd does the wave during the FIFA Club World Cup game between Real Madrid and Pachuca in Charlotte, NC, Sunday, June 22, 2025. Real Madrid found a way to win Sunday despite being down one of the most captivating athletes in the world in Kylian Mbappe, who spent time in the hospital earlier this week and whose timeline for return is still up in the air. The team did so despite a 7th-minute red card by young defender Raul Asencio, which put the team down a man all game. Advertisement Real Madrid also did so despite many statistics showing that this was Pachuca's game. Pachuca, which competes in Liga MX, had more attempts at goal (25 to 8), attempts at goal on target (9-3), corner kicks (7 to 2). Real Madrid dominated possession — 58% to 42% — but that figure was a bit misleading toward the end of the second half, with Real Madrid up 3-1, pinballing the ball around the middle third while Pachuca tried to seize any and every chance. But what wasn't misleading? The three moments of brilliance that defined the contest. The first came in the 35th minute in the form of a connection between Fran Garcia and Bellingham, who finished off a run with a golden right-footed strike in the bottom-right corner of the net. The second came in the 43rd courtesy of Arda Guler, which was eerily similar to the score from Bellingham just before. The third came in the second half via the touch of Federico Valverde in the 70th minute — extending the score to 3-0. Elias Montiel of Pachuca scored off a strike that was deflected in the box and found the back of the net in the 80th minute to bring the game to its final score. Sunday marked Real Madrid's first win of the FIFA Club World Cup; it next plays RB Salzburg at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. But for as dominant as Sunday was for Real Madrid, the idea that it left a lot on the pitch on Sunday lingered. Advertisement 'It was obviously tough after Asencio got sent off,' Bellingham said. 'He's a young defender so it happens. There's no harm in making a mistake. It was a test of our character. A test of our leadership as well. I think it was important when the manager decided we had to change shape. We all took that responsibility well. We all kind of communicated with each other to make it easier for the team. 'After that, we had to weather a little bit of the storm. They had a lot of shots. (Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois) was fantastic. And then we had our chances. We were clinical and we took them. A good win.' Fans gather at Bank of America in uptown Charlotte to cheer for their team: of Real Madrid and CF Pachuca play in Club World Cup Sunday, June 22, 2025. Head coach Xabi Alonso agreed. Advertisement 'Today, I can't say that we have shown what we have tried to train in these couple of days,' Alonso said. 'Or even in the team talk before the game. Today was all about adapting to the context of where we were, with the principles to be in good shape, to have good distances, to have good balance to defend.' This isn't Real Madrid's first time in Charlotte. The squad did so in an international friendly last summer, when they defeated Chelsea FC, 2-1. So it feeling like home might not be all that much of a stretch. Simón Terran, center, and Rodrigo Hernandez, right. Plus, Charlotte is used to such spectacles. On top of the venue's regular diet of Charlotte FC contests, Bank of America Stadium has been home to the CONCACAF Gold Cup event in 2023 in addition to a bunch of one-off events. In fact, one of those one-off events was the host of one of the coolest moments in Charlotte's sports history — when a 16-year-old Charlotte FC academy player in Brian Romero forced a handball in the box in the waning minutes of the contest, then overtime, then a shootout and then a win. Advertisement That night, for Charlotte, was close to perfect. What Real Madrid did Sunday wasn't that. But to the city that came out to see them, it was wonderful nonetheless. PSG Get Good News as Bayern Munich Make €12M-per-Year Offer to Barcelona Target

PSG are just one win away from completing a treble, largely thanks to the depth Luis Enrique has built across the squad. The Spanish manager has relied heavily on rotation this season, a strategy that's helped secure back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and a Coupe de France triumph. But while the approach has paid off, it hasn't satisfied everyone. Some players believe they're ready for a bigger role—and Bradley Barcola might be one of them. The young forward is now attracting interest from Bayern Munich, raising questions about his future in Paris. Advertisement According to Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl recently left the club's training camp in Florida to focus on squad planning. He's holding talks with agents and other decision-makers as the club shapes its summer strategy. Bayern remain interested in adding a winger, with their top priority still believed to be Athletic Club's Nico Williams—though that deal depends on how things play out with Barcelona. Barcola is also high on Bayern's radar, while AC Milan's Rafael Leão has come up in internal discussions as well. Are Bayern Munich ditching interest in PSG standout? OSCAR DEL POZO/AFP via Getty Images Advertisement Plettenberg's latest report reveals that Bayern Munich haven't given up on Nico Williams and have put a €12 million per season offer on the table. Bayern are hoping Barcelona run into financial or registration issues that could prevent them from closing the deal. In his recent column, Bayern Munich insider Christian Falk revealed that Bayern Munich still see Barcola as a Plan B option if they are unable to secure Athletic Club's Nico Williams, who is linked to Barcelona. 'FC Bayern still can't agree on which player is best for the club. Nico Williams is still the ideal number one signing,' Falk wrote. 'They think Leão doesn't contribute as effectively with his defensive work. Barcola is hard to get; PSG don't want to sell him. Advertisement 'Interestingly, though, Bradley Barcola has changed agents. He is no longer being advised by star agent Jorge Mendes, Cristiano Ronaldo's old representative. 'He has switched to Moussa Sissoko and Marco Lichtsteiner. They are also Jamie Gittens' agents. The agency is also very well connected with FC Bayern. If there is a chance of a transfer, FC Bayern will be attentive to the opportunity.' Despite this rumor, Foot Mercato's Josué Cassé recently reported that Barcola isn't leaving PSG, as he remains a key part of the club's project and has no intention of moving on.

🌎 The Club World Cup guide to...Porto

Our guide to all 32 clubs participating at the FIFA Club World Cup continues. You can check out the full list so far here. Today we're looking How did they qualify for the Club World Cup? 📸 Alex Livesey - 2004 Getty Images Advertisement Porto are a club with great European pedigree, having won the European Cup in 1987 and the Champions League in 2004. They qualified for the Club World Cup via the UEFA ranking pathway thanks to some strong Champions League showings between 2021 and 2024. History at the Club World Cup Porto have never played at the Club World Cup but did win the Intercontinental Cup in 1987 (beating Uruguayan side Peñarol 2-1 after extra-time in a one-off match) and in 2004 (beating Colombian outfit Once Caldas in a penalty shoot-out). How did they perform in the 2024/25 season? It's been a tough campaign for Porto with the Portuguese giants finishing third in their domestic campaign, failing to win any of the cups and getting knocked out of the Europa League and the first post-group stage hurdle. Who is the coach? 📸 Hector Vivas - 2025 Getty Images Advertisement Argentine coach Martín Anselmi has only been in charge of Porto since January 2025, having previously coached in Chile, Ecuador and Mexico respectively. He has a reputation as a progressive, detail-oriented manager focused on high-intensity, possession-based football. Who is their star player? 📸 Octavio Passos - 2024 Getty Images Spain international forward Samu Aghehowa will be one to watch at the Club World Cup. Since joining Porto from Atlético de Madrid in the summer of 2024, the 20-year-old has been in impressive form, scoring 25 goals in 42 games, earning himself a call-up to Spain's senior squad last November, having won a gold medal for La Roja at the 2024 summer Olympic Games. Expected performance at the Club World Cup The Dragões will fancy their chances of emerging from Group A, where they will face Al Ahly, Inter Miami and Palmeiras. A quarter-final berth would represent a solid achievement. 📸 FILIPE AMORIM - AFP or licensors
