There's no doubt that throughout their history, the Oregon Ducks have produced a number of legendary college football players, but maybe none as recognizable as quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Of course, throughout his four years with the Ducks, he established himself as not only one of the best players in program history, but also produced one of the most impressive seasons ever for a quarterback.
Now, his time with the Ducks will forever be enshrined in history, because on Monday, they announced Mariota is set to be inducted into the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2025.
From 2012 to 2014, Mariota appeared in 41 games, completing 779-of-1,167 passes for 10,796 yards, 105 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and a 171.8 passing efficiency rating, while also rushing for 2,237 yards and 29 touchdowns.

His Heisman Trophy-winning junior season is what truly makes him legendary with Oregon, completing 304-of-445 passes for 4,454 yards, 42 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 181.7 passing efficiency rating, with 770 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
What makes all of this even more special is that he entered college with relatively low expectations, as 247Sports Composite rankings had him as a three-star recruit and the No. 512 player in the nation as part of the 2011 recruiting class.

Though Oregon never won it all with Mariota, he did help them reach the national championship, his junior season, which was the first year of the College Football Playoff, where they fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, losing 42-20.

Of course, his impressive collegiate career led him to be the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to the Tennessee Titans, where he played for five years, and has since bounced around, currently serving as a backup on the Washington Commanders.

Alex Rodriguez says a ring is key to Judge's New York Legacy

Alex Rodriguez says a ring is key to Judge's New York Legacy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Alex Rodriguez didn't hesitate when asked who currently holds the crown in New York sports. 'That's easy,' A-Rod said on Evan and Tiki Show Friday on WFAN. 'Whoever wins the championship first.' Advertisement The question between Aaron Judge or Jalen Brunson might seem like a toss-up depending on your sport. But for Rodriguez, who knows a thing or two about New York expectations, the math is simple: rings rule. That led to a familiar conversation about pressure, postseason legacy, and what Judge still has left to prove. 'He's such an amazing player,' Rodriguez said of the Yankees captain. 'It's just going to take one postseason, and he's going to be off to the races.' Former Yankee Alex Rodriqquez© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Rodriguez, who struggled wearing pinstripes in October until his 2009 playoff breakout, said it's impossible not to feel the weight of postseason expectations in New York, no matter how much athletes pretend they don't. Advertisement 'As an athlete, I'd say, 'Oh, I don't listen to any of that,' right? But the truth is, of course you do,' Rodriguez said. 'It's so loud and everywhere you look—the back page, the front page.' Judge is hitting .202 in 58 career playoff games with 16 home runs and 86 strikeouts. He's had moments—a home run off Shane Bieber in 2020, the ALDS power surge in 2017—but he hasn't put together the kind of signature October that sticks. Rodriguez pointed to his own experience in 2004 as a turning point. 'We got to Game 5 against Boston, and some people were saying I was going to be MVP of the series,' he said. 'Then we lose one, lose two… and the rest is history.' For Judge, the script hasn't flipped yet. But A-Rod believes it can. Advertisement 'One run, that's all it takes,' he said. Texas A&M lands commitment from elite 2026 five-star Edge out of Georgia

Texas A&M's recruiting success continued on Saturday afternoon, as one of the program's 13 visitors announced his commitment to the Aggies as a five-star edge Tristian Givens, who is currently taking his first official visit to College Station, became the 19th commit in A&M's 2026 cycle, and the second five-star commit alongside cornerback Brandon Arrington. Texas A&M's long history of recruiting and developing elite defensive linemen, and after sending Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner to the NFL this offseason, Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer can continue using the program's previous success to gain ground with elite pass rushers with NFL potential. Tristian Givens is that player, and the Georgia native has a bright future in front of him. Choosing the Aggies over Tennessee and Washington, where he recently took official visits, Texas A&M's future edge rotation will allow Givens to see the field earlier than expected, with senior Cashius Howell off to the NFL after the 2025 season. On the field, Givens is still raw as a pass rusher, having started his football career as a wide receiver, but possesses elite traits, especially his ability to bend and keep his balance once he turns the corner. Under Mike Elko, who will call the defensive plays this coming season, recruiting and developing NFL talent is the key to competing for a College Football Playoff spot. According to 247Sports, Givens is currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 3rd-ranked edge, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Blue Jays Make Max Scherzer Decision Before White Sox Game

Blue Jays Make Max Scherzer Decision Before White Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer (thumb) has pitched just one game for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, and they still own the AL's second Wild Card spot through 75 games. There's no telling how far they'll rise once the three-time Cy Young Award winner is back at full strength. Advertisement Scherzer's lone appearance this year came back on March 29 when he allowed two runs in three innings to the Baltimore Orioles. The 40-year-old threw just 45 pitches before leaving with soreness in his right lat muscle that stemmed from his thumb soreness. However, Scherzer is finally close to returning from the 60-day IL. Toronto manager John Schneider made a decision about the hurler's rehab before Saturday's bout with the Chicago White Sox, via Keegan Matheson. Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer (31)© Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images "Max Scherzer is throwing his bullpen session tomorrow now, not today," Matheson reported. "Schneider says the Blue Jays are 'feeling through it a bit' and just wanted to give him an extra day, which they have the option to do given how the rotation is set up next week," he continued. Scherzer will likely pitch either Tuesday or Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians, via Matheson. The right-hander isn't ready for 100-pitch outings yet, but he can handle 75. Advertisement Scherzer signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with the Blue Jays in February, and their rotation has been shorthanded since he went down in March. Toronto is 1.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for second place in the AL East and three games behind the New York Yankees for first.
