What is the Grief stat in Elden Ring Nightreign, and how does it work?
Image via FromSoftware
Elden Ring: Nightreign has added a brand-new twist to its already rich RPG mechanics with the introduction of Grief stat bonuses. If you've been wandering through The Fade, looting red phantoms, and wondering why your stats are jumping unexpectedly, this is for you.
Let's break down how Grief stat bonuses actually work, why they're worth paying attention to, and how to use them to your advantage.
What Is 'Grief' in Elden Ring Nightreign?
When players die in other Nightreign runs, their weapons can drop into your world as
phantom loot
. These aren't just cool cosmetics or spare blades—they're imbued with 'Grief,' a passive that grants bonus attribute points (like Strength, Dex, Intelligence, etc.).
Here's the twist: the Grief bonus isn't random. It mirrors the build of the player who originally owned the weapon. Found a katana from a fallen assassin-type character? You're likely getting Dex and Arcane bonuses just by holding it. You don't even need to equip it;
just having it in your active weapon slot is enough
.
How Does Grief Work in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Image via FromSoftware
Each Grief-infused weapon channels the top two stats of its original wielder into your build. If a Nightfarer had maxed out Strength and Vigor, those are the stats you'll receive boosts for. It's all passive. No animation. No activation. No downside. But there
is
a catch.
Not All Grief Is Useful
Grief bonuses can either
amplify
your build or just sit there doing nothing. A mage picking up a strength-heavy Grief weapon won't benefit much. Why? Because the stat boost might go toward something they don't scale with.
In short:
Right match
= free power.
Wrong match
= dead weight.
To make the most of it, align Grief drops with your character's build style. If you're running a high-Dex Nightfarer like Wylder, look for Grief-infused daggers or rapiers that belonged to similar builds. If you're a caster, seek out relics left behind by other Intelligence-based mages.
How To Check Grief Bonuses in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Want to know exactly what your Grief weapon is doing? Head to your Status screen and tap R3. You'll see the bonus stats highlighted clearly.
No guesswork needed. If you're hunting for optimal Grief drops, patrol near Day Boss spawns. Red phantom corpses show up there often, and they carry the best loot.
In
Elden Ring: Nightreign
, power doesn't just come from bosses or builds. Sometimes, it comes from the dead.
Grief
is passive, invisible, and easy to ignore; but once you understand how it works, it might just be your secret to dominating the Shadowlands. Keep an eye on the fallen. They might just be the reason you rise.

Best Relics in Elden Ring Nightreign
Image via: FromSoftware The best way to customize the abilities of your character in Elden Ring is through the relics you choose. Each relic comes with its own set of powers, and having the right ones can take your build from just decent to great. Relics can increase base stats, help with acquiring Runes, or support a particular playstyle. Relics must be chosen in tandem with character attributes and combat strategies. Relics That Boost Base Stats So, if you're running Executor for instance, whose Dexterity is currently S-tier level, relics that boost Dexterity will not only increase your damage, but your attack speed and general action economy, making your character much more dynamic in combat. One particularly interesting artifact here is the Old Pocketwatch, which increases Dexterity directly, letting you attack faster and improve the flow of combat overall. Focus on relics that improve the stats your character excels in to get the most out of your combat performance. Elden Ring Nightreign BEST RELICS & What They Do Make sure to look at your Nightfarer's base stats and arm them with relics that compliment whichever their highest stat ratings are. If a stat is currently at A or S tier, that's a pretty clear indication that a stat-boosting relic will have a big impact. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 4 Live Call Answering Services That Should Help Boost Efficiency - Worth A Peek Learn More Undo Relics to Boost Rune Acquisition As repetitive as Rune farming is, the proper relics make the grind much more fulfilling. Equip relics that automatically increase Rune gains, and before long, you'll watch your Nightfarer become more powerful and potent without much effort. Any relic that provides passive Rune increases are one's your going to want to focus on, particularly if you're looking to boost your team's progression speed. The New Shop Relics Are Amazing! Elden Ring: Nightreign Relics That Match Your Playstyle It's important to state that not all relics are meant to be stat or acquisition rate boosts. Some are directly designed to increase the potential of certain playstyles to make them more effective. This means characters like Guardian, the tanky shield-bearer, can really take advantage of relics that improve the effectiveness of their Guard Counters or raise enemy aggro. These relics go a long way in making sure your character feels as mighty as a frontline warrior should by maximizing your survivability. If you want to specialize more in controlling the battlefield and bumping damage, you'll want to equip relics that increase your defensive output or aggro control to fully maximize your tank build. These relics do not only improve your individual resilience, but enable you to pitch in more strategically to your team's success. Elden Ring Nightreign: Bandai Namco makes it tougher to fight Nightlords
Earlier this month, Elden Ring Nightreign released the 1.01.1 update and just a few weeks after that the publisher, Bandai Namco, has announced that it has made select fights in the game tougher than before. Players who desire to have a challenging fight in the game can now take on 'Everdark Sovereigns,' which are more difficult versions of the game's Nightlord foes that they usually face to conclude a run. 'Other Everdark Sovereigns- (Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast and Fissure in the Fog) will be added to the game at a later date,' said Bandai Namco. According to the Bandai Namco, a new Everdark Sovereign will make its way to Limveld each week. Players who have already conquered the standard version of that specific Nightlord will then become eligible to challenge its more powerful Everdark Sovereign form. Once the limited-time window ends, the Sovereign will no longer be accessible in Expeditions—at least temporarily. As per the video game publisher: 'These limited-time versions of the Nightlords are extremely challenging and pose an even greater threat to the Nightfarers with new moves and increased power.' Elden Ring Nightreign tough fight: Availability and awards Everdark Sovereigns can only be battled in online mode, and each one is available for a limited duration. For instance, the enhanced Gaping Jaw will remain accessible until June 25 at 8:59 PM ET (6:29 am IST, June 26). When players beat an Everdark Sovereign, they will get 'Sovereign Sigils,' which they can exchange for 'special Relics and other items.' According to a report by The Verge, the game will also receive DLC update in some time which would add new playable characters and bosses. Additionally, an Elden Ring movie is reportedly in the works. Elden Ring Nightreign: What's new in version 1.01.1 Single-player mode changes: A new effect, 'Automatic Revival Upon Defeat,' has been introduced to solo expeditions, allowing players to revive once during each Night boss encounter. Rune rewards for solo expeditions have been increased. General gameplay adjustments: Players reaching Day 3 in Expeditions will now receive more high-rarity Relics as part of their rewards. The odds of obtaining high-rarity Relics from Scenic Flat stones at the Small Jar Bazaar have also been raised. Update version 1.01.1 also resolves several user-reported issues. One fix corrects an imbalance where certain Greataxe and Great Hammer attacks from Raider weapons were inflicting excessive damage. On PC, a rendering bug has been addressed where some graphics did not load properly when the 'Low' option was selected under 'Quality Settings' in the Graphics tab.

Elden Ring Nightreign Everdark Sovereign explained: Gaping Jaw fight tips, rewards, and more
Everdark Sovereign is a tougher version of Nightlord expeditions in Elden Ring Nightreign. These missions begin like the standard runs, but the final boss turns into a nightmare. From the start of the fight, the boss is more aggressive, hits harder and has more health than usual. The first two nights of the expedition are unchanged. But on the final night, things get wild. The boss enters battle in its second phase, gains a new phase after losing half of its health and unleashes dangerous new mechanics/attacks. Before starting, make sure you are well-prepared: Reach at least level 13 Equip legendary gear Upgrade all flasks Carry Warming Stones and Wondrous Physick flasks Use relics that reduce damage or share healing These changes make every moment of the boss fight more intense and chaotic, even for skilled players. What are Sovereign Sigils and how do they work? fromsoft just shadow dropped a new boss version everdark sovereign gaping jaw in the patch. epic... If you defeat an Everdark Sovereign boss, your team earns Sovereign Sigils. This new currency can be spent at the Collector Signboard vendor in Roundtable Hold, located near the shoreline. You unlock this vendor after your first successful expedition. Sovereign Sigils can be used for: New character skins Special chalices to improve builds Rare relics Spawning Shifting Earth zones in future expeditions These rewards help you customise your gameplay experience and make it easier to handle future bosses. Gaping Jaw: The first Everdark Sovereign boss Ok HOLY SHIT, hard mode Gaping Jaw is definitely the hardest boss in Nightreign but wow that is a good fight. Just beat him for the first time solo, took 2 downs but I had spares revives (bought the guaranteed vendor revives)!Incredible fight, also the post reward is WORTH IT! The first Everdark Sovereign fight features Adel, the Gaping Jaw. This version of the boss is far more aggressive and unpredictable. You will face powerful area attacks and a new cyclone mechanic that forces players to stay close or risk constant damage. Boss Name: Adel, Baron of Night Weaknesses: Poison and Scarlet Rot Changes in the fight: The fight starts in phase two A third phase begins when health drops below 50 percent The boss creates a moving cyclone that deals damage outside its zone Spiritsprings appear around the arena to jump back into the cyclone Constant lightning storms and fast slam attacks Adel's cyclone moves with the boss, which means players must stay inside it to survive. The battlefield becomes chaotic, and staying together becomes essential. Tips to survive the Gaping Jaw Everdark fight To make it through this expedition, players need to be smart with positioning, relics and team tactics. Focus on staying alive and reducing incoming damage with the right equipment. Equip relics that: Increase damage resistance at full health Reduce damage from repeated hits Boost lightning resistance Share healing flasks or consumables across the team Stay inside the cyclone at all times and use Spiritsprings to get back in if you are thrown out. If you fall behind, it is hard to recover. Use poison-based attacks and try to stagger Adel before it builds momentum. Everdark Sovereign fights are the hardest challenge in Elden Ring Nightreign right now. Adel is just the beginning. More bosses will join this high-level roster soon. If you want powerful rewards and an unforgettable fight, sharpen your blades and face the storm.
