Ventura resident Callum Walsh will fight Elias Espadas at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez on Saturday night.
Callum Walsh could be a win or two away from fighting on a major platform. Elias Espadas stands in his way.
The unbeaten Ventura resident will square off against Espadas on Saturday night at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez. The 10-round junior middleweight bout will headline a 360 Boxing Promotions card that will stream live on UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m.

Walsh (13-0, 11 knockouts) last fought on March 16 in New York City, knocking out once-beaten Dean Sutherland in the opening round. Espadas is coming off a close majority decision draw against unbeaten Sadriddin Akhmedov on April 19.
The 24-year-old Walsh is the betting favorite going into Saturday's clash, but is not overlooking Espadas.
'(Saturday) would be a good win for me, considering he's coming off a draw against a prospect,' Walsh told The Star at a recent open media workout at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, where he trains. 'If I could win and get the job done, it'll show I'm levels above.'
Walsh has fought at Chumash before, dropping Mexico's Carlos Ortiz three times en route to a second round knockout victory on June 7, 2024.

Originally from Ireland, where he was a multi-amateur champion, Walsh recently moved to Ventura.
While he enjoys the amenities of the weather and surroundings, a move to Ventura was in play for personal reasons. Walsh is dating MMA star Tabitha Ricci, who resides and trains in Ventura and is an instructor at Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Ricci is trained by Joseph 'Hoss' Janik at Knuckleheadz Gym in Ventura.
'Ventura is a nice place,' said Walsh, who is trained by Freddie Roach. 'The weather is great. I like living there.'
The southpaw Walsh is rated No. 6 by both the IBF and WBC, two of boxing's major sanctioning bodies. A win over Espadas could see Walsh move higher in the rankings and position himself for a possible world title fight next year.

Besides Ricci, Walsh has a stellar team around him, including promoter Tom Loeffler and UFC President Dana White. Walsh has marketed himself well, appearing at UFC events as a guest of White and at WWE events, as well.
Walsh is confident an impressive win over Espadas will position him closer to elite level of the 154-pound division.
'I believe I'm one of the best junior middleweight fighters in the world. I truly believe that. People don't know it yet,' he said. 'I'm looking forward to improving and showing that on a big stage. I will keep fighting those they put in front of me.'
Espadas (23-6-1, 16 KOs), who resides in Merida, Mexico, knocked out journeyman Ramon Barajas on Dec. 7, 2024. Prior to the win over Barajas, the 34-year-old Espadas suffered back-to-back knockout losses to Xander Zayas and Fiodor Czerkaszyn.

In the co-feature, unbeaten junior welterweight Cain Sandoval (15-0, 13 KOs) of Sacramento will face Argentina's Jonathan Eniz (36-22-1, 17 KOs) in an eight-round bout.
Daniel Barrera (8-1-1, 4 KOs) of Eastvale will square off against Basilio Franco (10-3, 8 KOs) of Norwalk in an eight-round junior bantamweight bout. Barrera suffered his first loss as a pro to Christopher Rios on Feb. 21.
The 23-year-old is managed by Ray Chaparro, who owns Cafe Amri in Oxnard.
Jenelyn Olsim of Santa Paula will make her professional debut, facing Jessica Radtke Maltez (1-2-1) of Waconia, Minnesota, in a four-round featherweight bout. Olsim is trained by Janik at Knuckleheadz Gym.

The Olsim-Radtke fight will stream live on the UFC Fight Pass YouTube page at 6 p.m.

Mets Send Message to Juan Soto After Major News on Thursday
Mets Send Message to Juan Soto After Major News on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New York Mets superstar Juan Soto didn't look like himself to start the season, but it was only a matter of time before he regained his powers at the plate. Advertisement The four-time All-MLB honoree slashed .232/.347/.345 in April and .219/.345/.448 in May, but he was slashing .340/.522/.700 in June ahead of Wednesday's 0-for-4 against the Atlanta Braves. If he continues to bat over .300 in the coming months, the Mets could run away with the NL's top seed. New York entered Thursday atop the NL East despite Soto slashing just .248/.387/.462 on the season. For context, his career slash line is .282/.418/.527. New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto (22)© Eric Canha-Imagn Images Soto reminded the baseball world what he's capable of with his latest history-making accomplishment on Thursday. The 26-year-old notched his 1,000th career hit, joining Mickey Mantle and Mel Ott as the only players to ever record 1,000 hits, 700 walks, and 200 homers before turning 27 (h/t Bob Nightengale of USA Today). He turns 27 on Oct. 25. Advertisement The Mets reacted to this news with a post on X. Soto signed with the Washington Nationals as an international free agent in 2015 before making his MLB debut in 2018. The native Dominican was the runner-up for the NL Rookie of the Year Award that season and helped lead the Nationals to their first-ever championship the following season. Soto won the NL batting title in 2020 with a .351 average and was the NL MVP runner-up in 2021. The Nationals traded him to the San Diego Padres in August 2022, who then sent him to the New York Yankees in December 2023. He then helped lead the Yankees to their first World Series appearance in 15 years before signing a record 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets in December 2024. Mets Make Move After Sixth Straight Loss
Mets Make Move After Sixth Straight Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Currently reeling from a six-game losing streak, the New York Mets are also dealing with the absence ace starting pitcher Kodai Senga who suffered a right hamstring strain during a June 11 win against the Washington Nationals. The injury occurred while Senga was covering first base in the sixth inning and reached for a high throw from Pete Alonso. Advertisement He exited after 5.2 dominant innings, having allowed just one hit and striking out five. With a league-best 1.47 ERA, Senga has been the anchor of a rotation now in flux. His absence leaves the team without its most dependable arm at a time when bullpen usage is already stretched thin. New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (34) and first baseman Pete Alonso (20)© Brad Penner-Imagn Images Manager Carlos Mendoza and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner are left scrambling to find answers ahead of a pivotal series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The bullpen has been heavily taxed during this skid, and options are limited. The Mets' need for innings, stability, and upside has made their latest move all the more urgent. Enter Blade Tidwell. Advertisement Tidwell, the organization's top pitching prospect, has been recalled for a second stint in the majors (via Anthony DiComo of His debut last month against the St. Louis Cardinals was a mixed bag—3.2 innings, three walks, and an inflated 14.73 ERA—but also offered a glimpse of his potential. His fastball touched 96 mph, and his slider showed promise, though command issues derailed what began as a confident start. This second opportunity comes with real stakes. The Mets don't just need an arm—they need production. Tidwell now finds himself thrown into the fire, tasked with stabilizing a spiraling rotation and proving he's more than a prospect. His ability to adjust, execute in high-leverage situations, and limit base traffic will determine both his future role and the club's immediate fortunes. Advertisement With Senga's timeline unclear, the Mets must rely on internal reinforcements. That means young pitchers like Tidwell must mature quickly, because every game now holds postseason implications. U.S. Soccer Star Dishes On 'Weird' Oval Office Moment With Donald Trump
U.S. Men's National Soccer Team star Timothy Weah has opened up about what he described as the 'weird' experience of standing behind Donald Trump in the Oval Office while the president fielded questions on the Iran-Israel war and attacked the idea of transgender women competing in women's sports. Weah was at the White House with his Juventus teammates on Wednesday as part of a promotional event for the FIFA Club World Cup, ahead of the Italian side's 5-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates' Al-Ain FC. Advertisement Trump invited questions from reporters about the game and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the U.S. will host alongside Mexico and Canada. But the Juventus players stood uncomfortably behind POTUS as he instead answered queries about the more pressing political questions of the day. Weah, the son of former Liberian soccer star-turned-former president George Weah, later told reporters that the players had been made to attend the event. 'They told us that we have to go and I had no choice but to go,' he explained, reported The Athletic. 'I was caught by surprise, honestly. It was a bit weird,' he added. 'When he started talking about the politics with Iran and everything, it's kind of like, I just want to play football, man.' Related...
