CM announces labour health, housing projects

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif a package worth Rs84 billion has been launched for the well-being of labourers ahead of the International Labour Day.
The miners and workers will be able to get a monthly subsidy of Rs3,000 through ration cards, she stated in her message issued to mark the day.
She added, "Workers will be able to get 13 other benefits, including digital cash transfer, advance salary and Labour Day prizes through JS Bank cards."
The chief minister said 50-bed social security hospitals had been inaugurated in Kasur and Sargodha, while a hospital would also be built in Rahim Yar Khan for the labourers.
She said state-of-the-art wellness centres would be built in three cities for the workers.
The chief minister revealed that a first-of-its-kind 200-bed modern cardiac city would be built in Lahore for the workers. She disclosed that 'teleclinics' were being set up to provide medical facilities to the workers from the best doctors. She said the inauguration of a labour colony in Taxila and a Workers Welfare Complex in the Sundar Industrial Estate was a welcome step.
She said, "A new labour colony will be built in Warburton and Phase-II of the colony in Multan will be built, while 300 day care centres are being built for the convenience of female workers of factories."
The chief minister added, "For the first time, payment of minimum wage is being ensured across the province."
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) Punjab Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza on Thursday paid glowing tributes to workers across the province, acknowledging their crucial role in Pakistan's development and progress on the occasion of International Labour Day.
SACM Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah, in his message, called workers the "backbone of society," praising their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts that drive national growth.
"Your labour is not only a source of pride but also a cornerstone for the nation's reconstruction," he said.
He emphasised that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government is taking meaningful steps to protect workers' rights and improve their quality of life. "The Chief Minister has not only raised workers' wages but also ensured their effective implementation across Punjab," he noted.
Nasrullah added that new welfare initiatives aimed at uplifting the working class will be launched soon.
Echoing these sentiments, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza paid homage to the labour force's resilience and indispensable contributions to the city's development.
"Without the contribution of labourers, the prosperity of Lahore would not be possible," he stated in his message.
The DC highlighted the vital role played by workers in diverse sectors including construction, transport, manufacturing, sanitation, and services, calling them the pillars of Lahore's economic and social life.
He reiterated the district administration's commitment to safeguarding workers' rights, health, and safety, ensuring they receive fair treatment and dignified working conditions.
"Labourers are the backbone of our economy, and the administration stands in solidarity with them," said the DC, assuring continued prioritisation of worker welfare and empowerment in Lahore and across Punjab.

The rate was at $3,356 per ounce (with a premium of $20), a decrease of $16, as per APGJSA. Meanwhile, silver price per tola decreased by Rs24 to reach Rs3,796.

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the Punjab government aims to engage youth in positive activities through sports and sports-related initiatives and youth empowerment plans included in Punjab's Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26. Speaking at a news conference here Thursday, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar stated that a budget of Rs7.6 billion has been allocated for the Sports and Youth Affairs Department this year. He emphasized that the Punjab government's top priority is to provide opportunities to the youth and ensure the development of modern sports infrastructure. He informed the media that under last year's 'Khelta Punjab' programme, more than 120,000 athletes participated. This year, the initiative is being expanded further with talent hunt events being organized across districts, and significant work is already underway to rehabilitate and improve existing sports infrastructure. The Provincial Minister also shared that the first phase of the Chief Minister's Internship Programme has been successfully completed, benefiting 6,000 youth with a monthly stipend of Rs25,000. In Phase Two, the number of interns will be increased to 10,000, and the stipend will be raised to Rs60,000 per month. He further revealed that for the first time in the province's history, a Sports Endowment Fund has been established, under which athletes are being supported with funds of Rs30,000, Rs50,000, and Rs70,000. A Self-Sustaining System is also being introduced to address salary-related issues of sports department employees on a permanent basis, he added. He also highlighted that under the up-gradation of Punjab Stadium, Nishtar Park, Lahore, increasing seating capacity from 6,000 to 10,000. Scheme of Construction of a 102-room hotel/hostel at Nishtar Park Sports Complex at a cost of Rs800 million also approved. He also briefed about schemes of development of an Indoor Sports Arena for table tennis, snooker, board games, indoor rowing, revival of the International Boxing Arena, construction of a baseball ground in Lahore, rehabilitation and construction of Velodrome, Swimming Pool, Indoor Volleyball Complex, construction of Padel Tennis Courts in Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot while multipurpose Sports Facilities will be established along Rahim Yar Khan, Muridke, and Narowal Road. The Minister emphasized that the Punjab Government is working to revive traditional sports like Kabaddi, reconnecting the youth with cultural roots. He said that more projects will be included in the upcoming fiscal year and equal sports opportunities will be provided in every district of the province. Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar concluded by stating, 'Our goal is not just to build infrastructure but to ensure its sustainable and autonomous management.' Clinic-on-Wheels Phase-II project launched: CM says doorstep health-care delivery her dream

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'It was my dream to provide free and immediate treatment to the poor at their doorstep. I have always used my power and authority for the welfare of the people. The real work of serving the people in the health sector was done during the tenures of Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.' While addressing the launching ceremony of Clinic-on-Wheels Phase-II project, the CM said, 'The people of Punjab have suffered immensely in the last four years after the tenure of Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. The cancer patients had to come on the roads for being denied free medicines. Thanks to Allah Almighty that not only cancer but also hepatitis, cardiac diseases, medicine and insulin doses for two months are being delivered at the doorsteps of patients. The health services on 911 Clinic-on-Wheels will be provided across Punjab from today onwards.' She outlined, 'It is a real revolution, a revolution in terms of providing access to the best health facilities to the people at large. Medicines are being delivered to people at their doorsteps. I congratulate Provincial Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir, Health Secretary Nadia Saqib and the entire team on the timely launching of Clinic-on-Wheels Phase-II project, which was initially started with 245 vehicles a few months earlier, is receiving excellent public feedback. Doctors, LHVs and allied staff are working in the rural areas as field hospitals on Clinic-on-Wheels. Clinic-on-Wheels also provide maternal, pediatric treatment and other minor medical procedures.' She revealed, 'Since there was no facility of air conditioner in the Clinic-on-Wheels vehicles in the phase-I, now excellent air conditioner vehicles have been purchased for phase-II. I flet immense pleasure by getting treatment like a normal patient in a government hospital. I got treatment by getting admission slip from the hospital. Underwent MRI scan and the doctors administered me injections.' She added, 'I feel profound pleasure over coming to know that the best and talented orthopedic surgeons are available at Mayo Hospital. By the grace of Allah Almighty, more than one crore patients have been provided free treatment immediately through Clinic-on-Wheels project. Clinic-on-Wheels also provide facilities for getting checked blood pressure, undergoing screening and treatment of other diseases.' She emphasised, 'Children suffering from malnutrition in South Punjab will be treated immediately through the Clinic-on-Wheels. Clinic-on-Wheels will also be tracked to prevent misuse of vehicles. 45,000 people are getting free treatment on a daily basis through the field staff and Clinic-on-Wheels. A few weeks ago, I felt overjoyed to inspect a field hospital in Harbanspura. The patients present at the field hospital expressed their profound happiness and joy over getting free treatment. The field hospitals have the best facilities for providing mother and child care, preventive vaccinations, family planning, malaria, diabetes, skin diseases and children's diseases.' The CM said, 'Free medicines are being provided in government hospitals across Punjab, The Punjab government is allocating Rs.100 billion in the new budget for provision of health services and free medicines. I visit the hospitals and take feedback from every patient myself. People are running their own pharmacies and patients are not getting medicines in government hospitals. I myself witnessed that medicine cartons were lying in the hospital store and patients were being denied of getting free medicines. Now, an announcement is being made for free medicines in every hospital across Punjab, No doctor in any hospital can order medicines from outside.' She revealed, 'We are laying a network of health facilities in the new year 2025-26 across Punjab. Every fatal disease will be treated in the Nawaz Sharif Medical District going to be established in Lahore. 100-beded Children's Hospital, Blood Diseases, Bone Marrow, Orthopedic and other hospitals are being built.
