DC orders health centres to ensure essential medicines are in stock in Mandya
Mandya: Deputy commissioner Kumara has directed the heads of primary health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs) across the district to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential medicines, including injections, to treat snakebite and dog bite cases.

During a review meeting at the DC's office, Kumara highlighted the recent tragic death of a girl who was en route Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) for treatment following a dog bite. He stated that the incident could have been avoided if timely medical care was provided at Maddur taluk hospital.
Emphasising the importance of preparedness, Kumara said that life-saving medicines must be readily available at all health centres.
To enforce this, nodal officers are appointed in every taluk. These officers are tasked with conducting regular inspections of health facilities under their jurisdiction and submitting detailed reports.
"Doctors now have access to real-time stock information through mobile apps. We must utilise technology effectively," Kumara said, urging medical staff to work with compassion and prioritise human life.
With the onset of monsoon, Kumara also warned of an increased risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, and called for intensified awareness campaigns, especially at construction sites where stagnant water is common.
The district reported one positive Covid case. The patient is currently under home isolation. SARI cases are also being tested at MIMS, and Kumara instructed that similar tests be extended to SARI patients in private hospitals.
Kumara also reviewed progress under the district's Non-Communicable Disease screening programmes, which focus on early detection of diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. He stressed the need for follow-up data to ensure that identified patients are receiving proper treatment.

More outreach programmes are to be organised in high-risk areas.
Noting a rise in heart attack-related deaths in the district, Kumara instructed health officials to conduct age-wise surveys and submit detailed reports. He also called for data on the number of patients being screened under the heart disease control programme and those referred for specialist care. Universal Immunisation Programme and maternal mortality reports were also reviewed.
District panchayat deputy secretary-2 T Lakshmi, district health and family welfare officer Dr K Mohan, RCH officer Dr KP Ashwath, district survey officer Dr Kumar, leprosy eradication officer Dr Somashekhar, and district AIDS control officer Dr MN Ashalatha were also present.

Compensation given to families affected by fatal tree accidents in Chikkamagaluru
Chikkamagaluru: District minister KJ George expressed his condolences for the death of Anil Pais, 50, from Bilukoppa and handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to his family members. Pais died after a branch of a tree fell on him near Balehonnur a few days ago. Geroge visited Pais's house to offer support. George said that no financial assistance can truly replace a lost life. This support is a gesture of compassion aimed at providing the family with some emotional strength during this difficult time. Currently, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh is being provided by the deputy commissioner. The construction work of the deceased Anil Pais's house stopped midway. Earlier, the gram panchayat provided funds for the construction of the house. MLA Rajegowda has promised to complete the house construction using his funds. Anil Pais had two children studying in govt schools. The minister stated that the DC would be requested to ensure appropriate support for their future education. The minister also gave compensation to the family of Rathnakar, who died when a tree collapsed on his autorickshaw near Meguru Hosathota in Koppa taluk. Order to remove dangerous trees George directed the forest department officials to clear any dangerous trees located along roadsides to prevent further loss of life.

Mandya: Yoga brought global recognition to India, making the entire world turn its gaze towards this country, said deputy commissioner Kumara. Speaking at the 11th International Day of Yoga celebration held at the PET Cricket Ground here on Saturday, the DC said India is indeed the global guru of yoga and called upon the people to adopt yoga in their life before illness strikes. "If students start practising yoga from a young age, they will grow stronger physically and mentally and contribute positively to society," he added, suggesting that dedicating an hour to yoga can make the remaining 23 hours more productive. Sri Purushottamanandanatha Swamiji, secretary of Sri Adichunchanagiri Education Trust, advised that yoga should not be restricted to just one day, but practised daily to maintain good health. Sri Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swamiji of Chandravana Ashrama's Baby Mutt said that if there is one Indian festival celebrated across the world, it is yoga. "India is the country that introduced yoga to the world," he said. "Our only lifelong companion is our body. To keep it healthy, one must practice exercise, meditation, yoga, and consume nutritious food." City Municipal Council president MV Prakash, zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini, superintendent of police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, additional deputy commissioner BC Shivanandamurthy, Indian Red Cross chairperson Meera Shivalingaaiah, and district AYUSH officer Dr Pushpa were present.
