Genetec upgrades Security Center SaaS with new cloud features

Techday NZ5 days ago

Genetec has introduced updates to its Security Center SaaS solution that provide organisations with enhanced flexibility and options for managing physical security infrastructure.
Security Center SaaS integrates video surveillance, access control, forensic search, intrusion monitoring, automation, and additional advanced functions into a single platform.
It is designed to operate fully in the cloud or in a hybrid environment combining on-premises and cloud systems. This approach allows organisations to determine how best to structure and scale their security solutions according to specific requirements.
Platform enhancements
The latest updates to the platform include expanded integration for direct-to-cloud cameras, improved support for edge recording, and the introduction of new analytics integrations from third parties. These capabilities are intended to increase the flexibility and pace at which the system adapts to client needs.
Security Center SaaS's open architecture supports a variety of devices from multiple manufacturers, including Axis, Bosch, and i-PRO. It is compatible with direct-to-cloud, PTZ, and fisheye cameras, now offering automatic de-warping for enhanced image quality and usability. The solution does not require replacement of existing non-cloud-ready cameras, access control devices or intrusion panels. Instead, these can be connected to the platform via Genetec appliances, reducing upgrade and migration costs.
Flexible deployment
The platform is designed to give security professionals freedom in deployment. Organisations can opt for a purely cloud-native solution, maintain on-premises systems, or use a hybrid mix of both.
Video footage can be stored locally on edge devices such as SD cards within cameras or centrally in the cloud, with settings tailored to bandwidth constraints, policy preferences, or operational needs.
Centralised management of these features is available through web and mobile applications, enabling users to control systems from a Security Operations Center or remotely. New edge recording capabilities allow for local storage and subsequent transfer of footage. Recording profiles make it possible to define storage settings across a range of cameras and devices, streamlining management and compliance.
Peer-to-peer streaming
The inclusion of WebRTC technology enables direct video streaming from cameras to web interfaces through peer-to-peer connections.
This development decreases the time needed to bring up video streams and lessens bandwidth use, which is particularly effective for live monitoring or when managing operations across multiple locations simultaneously.
Analytics and real-time response
The system's open architecture also supports integration of analytics from various vendors. For example, new firearm detection analytics developed by Bosch can automatically trigger alerts and initiate workflows whenever a weapon is identified by the platform. Such integrations are intended to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of security teams.
Security Center SaaS is suited for use across multiple sectors, including retail, education, corporate campuses, banking, healthcare, and urban infrastructure. Its features are designed to address the operational realities of managing security in distributed or multi-site environments, supporting both centralised and decentralised management as required. "Genetec is redefining what SaaS means for physical security. It's not just moving to the cloud; it's about giving customers and integrators the flexibility to build, scale, and evolve their systems," said Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec Inc. "Security Center SaaS stands apart by unifying physical security functions on a single platform, continuously adding new cloud-native capabilities while supporting the hardware and deployment models organisations already rely on."
Genetec has committed to delivering new features to Security Center SaaS on a frequent basis, with updates being introduced every 12 days since its initial release.
This release cycle is designed to ensure the platform remains current and capable of addressing evolving security requirements and operational demands.
