Sipitang fire victim gets new house

SIPITANG: A single mother who lost her home in a fire just a day before Aidiladha celebrations in 2024 received a new one under the Program Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera (PPRS). Baidah Amit from Kampung Lumut was among the recipients of the PPRS housing assistance, which aims to provide safe and comfortable shelter for those affected by unforeseen disasters.
Advertisement Sipitang Umno Division Chief Abd Rahman Mat Noh said the housing assistance application successfully enabled the victim to own a PPRS home after losing her previous residence to fire last year. The programme is part of rural poverty eradication initiatives that provide new construction or home repair assistance to the poor and hardcore poor to ensure they have safe and comfortable housing. 'With this housing assistance, they can now shelter comfortably without worrying about strong winds, rain or heat,' said Abd Rahman. He hopes the victim would overcome her trauma and find joy in the government's concern by providing housing to those affected by uninvited disasters.
Advertisement Abd Rahman acknowledged that while the new house may not be identical to the one destroyed by fire, the recipients should be grateful for the PPRS home contributed by the government. He said anyone can apply for PPRS housing but must follow established procedures, assuring the public that there is no favouritism or discrimination in distributing government aid. Only two Apas Rumah Mesra not ready yet

TAWAU: Only two out of 60 Rumah Mesra SMJ allocated for the Apas state constituency between 2022 and 2024 have yet to be completed, due to technical issues such as land ownership and site conditions. However, Assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan expressed confidence these two homes would be completed soon, once the related issues are resolved. He said the delay was caused by technical challenges, including land ownership and uneven terrain, which posed difficulties as the construction of SMJ homes requires level land or modifications to the site. Nizam was speaking to the media after handing over house keys to recipients in Kg Kuala Balung, Kg Inderasabah, Kg Wakuba and Kg Sungai Gading. He said over the past two years, a total of 58 SMJ homes in Apas had been fully completed, with most recipients already receiving their keys, which he personally handed over. He extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for the initiative, saying the Rumah Mesra SMJ programme had greatly benefited those in need, particularly the B40 group. On behalf of the people of Apas, I thank the Chief Minister for his concern and commitment to launching this initiative,' he said. Among the recipients was single mother of three, Norliza Suliman, who expressed her gratitude upon receiving her house key during Nizam's ground visit. She said although she had land, she had not been able to build a home due to financial difficulties, compounded by the rising cost of building materials. Fuel tanker catches fire near Taman Indah Permai

The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 11.31pm and arrived at the scene by 11.49pm, with the fire brought under control within 17 minutes. Advertisement No casualties were reported, but about 30 per cent of the tanker was damaged, with 30 personnel from Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations deployed. The team used water tankers, foam, hose reels, and a thermal imaging camera to safely cool the tank and ensure no risk of reignition. Qantas plane damaged after hitting jet bridge in Australia's Brisbane Airport

According to the Brisbane Times, Flight QF186 from Queenstown, New Zealand, collided with the jet bridge shortly before 6.40 pm local time after landing. Advertisement Photos published by the newspaper showed that the windscreen of the Boeing 737-800 was shattered in the incident. No injuries were reported, and passengers disembarked via stairs. A Qantas spokesperson said the airline was investigating how the bridge came into contact with the aircraft's front section. 'The aircraft will be inspected by engineers in Brisbane and repaired before returning to service,' the spokesperson said. This is the second jet bridge incident at Brisbane Airport in less than a month. On May 22, an Air New Zealand Flight NZ146 sustained a fuselage puncture after it made contact with a jet bridge while pushing back from a gate.
