Two American sisters travelling in India with their family have alleged that a man secretly filmed them from a hotel window while they were sunbathing by the pool in Gurugram. The video they posted about the incident has gone viral, triggering a wave of online apologies and concern from Indian users.
The women, Rory and Sage, shared a short video on Instagram through their handle @roryandsageofficial, which has over 16,000 followers. The clip was shared a week ago.
In the clip, the camera zooms in on a hotel room window where a man appears to be holding up his phone and filming them. The sisters, visibly uncomfortable, say they were simply relaxing by the pool when they noticed the man watching and possibly recording them.
Along with the video, they wrote, 'Well it looks like we're going to have to find a new past time. If you're a female planning on coming to India, I wouldn't come without a body guard of a man lol. Whether you are sun bathing or fully clothed, we are finding this behavior very common in India."
Their post quickly sparked reactions online, with several users commenting in support of the sisters and apologising for the behaviour they experienced. One user wrote, 'I am from India and I'm sorry, really really sorry." Another added, 'As an indian yes this is unfortunately v common here. Old retired uncles capturing you."
Some offered advice on how to deal with the incident. 'Please report it to the hotel, not the staff present but some senior management and they will take action, if not you can even file a report to the police. This should not be taken lightly and we need strict actions from foreigners, so that they can start taking local women seriously too. It might be a hassle to talk about it, you can send them an email too," one user suggested.
Others pointed to a wider issue, saying the problem isn't limited to foreign tourists. 'Traveling to India for a Bikini vacation will only ruin your holiday girlies, even if you walk in your pjs men will keep staring… so don't go at all even we aren't safe!," one comment read.
Another person wrote, 'We are sorry for creating an insecurity for you. People in our society never learns to mind their own business. This is the same reason we fight among ourselves a lot…"
'So sorry from any Indian person leaked of your privacy, found on social media, but Indian people is very honest and India is safe place of world for tourism," a user wrote.

A third wrote, 'Someone put a selling ads of America billion dollars fighter jet F-35B for sale. This fighter jet is in India for 6 days long due to technical issues. India is not for beginners 🤣🤣 Kya log hain vaiii.' "Someone have put that stranded UK F-35B Fighter Jet on OLX," wrote the fourth user. Though the root cause of the emergency landing of the British jet is said to be a technical fault, the fifth-generation combat jet is still stationed at the airport for a third day. Shortly after the incident, technicians from the carrier arrived to begin inspection and repairs. Six of them returned to the ship on Tuesday afternoon, while three personnel – including the pilot – remain at Thiruvananthapuram to oversee the rectification efforts. The pilot has been resting in the airport's apron office area and the aircrew were moved to the Emergency Medical Centre after the incident, as per the precautionary protocol. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) has been facilitating their stay, providing accommodation and meals. At the Royal Navy's request, a local ground handling agency was also arranged. Also, the Indian Air Force supports the UK team in returning the aircraft to full service.

Fake overseas job racket busted in Hyderabad

Two individuals running a fake overseas job racket targeting unsuspecting job-seekers with promises of employment abroad and visas, were arrested by the South Zone Task Force of the Hyderabad police along with Lalaguda police. The arrested individuals were identified as 40-year-old Naseem Banu from Nacharam, and 23-year-old Syed Adil from Begumpet. Two other accused - Fathima and Rekha, both residents of Hyderabad – remain at large. The police seized nine Indian passports, five visiting visa copies, and two mobile phones were seized from the arrested duo. According to officials, Naseem Banu had established a consultancy named World Wide Overseas Consultants (WWOC) in Tarnaka, Secunderabad, with the sole goal of duping people. Using social media platforms like Facebook, she advertised attractive offers for jobs and visas to countries such as Singapore, Australia, Russia, and Mauritius. Victims from Hyderabad and Nizamabad were lured with promises of overseas placements and paid sums totalling over ₹35 lakh. They submitted their passports for visa processing, only to be handed fake visas and fabricated job offer letters. When the victims demanded refunds, Banu reportedly cut all communication, vacated the office premises, and went underground. Both Naseem Banu and Syed Adil have a prior criminal history, with cases registered against them under the Emigration Act at Lalaguda and Balkonda police stations. The consultancy was earlier operated in Armoor for a brief period in 2024, indicating a pattern of repeat offences. Investigation is underway.

Meta alerts help Uttarakhand cops save over a dozen people from ending their lives since 2022

The Uttarakhand Police managed to save a 30-year-old Haridwar man from dying by suicide because a technological intervention by US-based Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp as well, alerted them when the man put out a post on Instagram announcing his decision to take his life. This is one of many such stories that have lately emerged from the Himalayan state. The Uttarakhand police tied up with Meta in August 2022 for timely alerts whenever the tech giant tracks a post related to suicide on Facebook or Instagram. With Meta's help, the Uttarakhand police has so far foiled over a dozen suicide attempts in various districts, including Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. Deputy superintendent of police (cyber crime cell), Ankush Mishra, who is the nodal officer of the project in Uttarakhand, said, 'On June 19, Meta informed us via an urgent call and an email that a person from Haridwar had posted on Instagram indicating his intent to die by suicide. Two officials on duty at the cyber crime police station in Dehradun — sub inspector Mukesh Chand and constable Nitin Ramola — shared the details with the Haridwar district control room, Haridwar Kotwali Nagar and senior police officials of the district. Upon receiving the information, a team from Haridwar police promptly reached his house and counselled him from taking the step.' 'Upon questioning, the person revealed that he was severely distressed due to family issues, which led him to post about ending his life on Instagram,' the police said. 'If someone posts about suicide (using keywords like poison, hanging, suicide) on Facebook, Instagram or any other platform owned by Meta, the company's algorithm picks these keywords and immediately sends an alert to the nodal officers of states,' Mishra said. The DSP further said, 'Sometimes, I receive calls from Meta officials at odd hours like 2-3am due to different time zones in the US and India. I have now set a different ringtone for international calls so that I immediately know that it's urgent. They ask us to check the email, which contains complete details of such posts and the social media user. We then coordinate with the district control room and share with them the person's name, location, and sometimes even photos. The cops from the local police station then reach the location and counsel the person along with the family members.'
