KRS dam water level rises rapidly due to heavy rainfall
Mandya/Mysuru: Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam is witnessing a rapid rise in water levels due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of
Cauvery River
. In just 12 hours, the dam recorded an increase of nearly two and a half feet in water level.
As of 6pm on Tuesday, the water level stood at 110.9 feet, compared to the maximum capacity of 124.8 feet. By Wednesday, the level rose to around 113.3 feet, thanks to a robust inflow of 29,368 cusecs. The outflow was measured at 1,024 cusecs. In contrast, the water level on the same day last year was just 87 feet. This year's early surge has brought relief to farmers, as nearby lakes and ponds are also filling up, improving the groundwater situation and ensuring better irrigation prospects.
Usually, after it crosses 100 feet, it takes time, but here, due to heavy rain in the catchment area, including in Madikeri and Harangi Dam, the water to KRS Dam increased enormously.
Officials say that if the current inflow — hovering around 30,000 cusecs — continues, the dam is likely to reach its full capacity within the next five days.
Kabini Dam in Mysuru district is receiving 21,579 cusecs of water daily while 25,000 cusecs of water is discharged from the dam, located in HD Kote.

The water level is maintained at 2,280.5 feet with some 4 feet kept as a buffer to manage the situation in case of a sudden spike in the inflow. The maximum level of the dam is 2,284 feet. With close to 2 TMC ft of water let into the river, a flood-like situation prevails downstream of the dam and in the temple town of Nanjangud.
On Wednesday, the intensity of rain came down both in the Mysuru region and Malnad. However, the dams continued to receive a good inflow.
People staying on the banks of the rivers Hemavathi and Kapila are advised to move to safe places as a precautionary measure.
Hemavati Dam in Hassan district is receiving 19,546 cusecs of water. The water level touched 2,911.35 feet against the maximum level of 2,922 feet.
Following heavy rain in the neighbouring state of Kerala, the vegetable supply was disrupted, resulting in a steep drop in prices in Mysuru. According to farmers, the price of tomatoes fell to Rs 6/kg in the wholesale market, causing them a huge loss. The quality of tomatoes also came down due to rain, affecting the price.

Moderate showers expose KMC claims of drain cleaning
Kanpur: Just one moderate shower has exposed the tall claims of Kanpur Municipal Corporation regarding nullah cleaning in the city. In March, as in previous years, it was decided to clean all 236 major nullahs of the city before June, and an amount of Rs 8 crore was released for this purpose. The deadline was extended three times, but effective nullah cleaning remained incomplete. June 20 was set as the third deadline, but the moderate showers on Friday 19 exposed deficiencies in the cleaning process. With the monsoon now active, even two moderate showers have caused waterlogging at several sites in the city, particularly in Kanpur South. At the notorious Sisamau nullah, silt was seen lying on the bank, not yet lifted, while desilting work continued. After showers on Thursday and Friday, silt accumulated on the bank once again entered the nullah. Most drains that were de-silted have become flooded with silt once again as the recent showers washed it back into them. The municipal corporation officials claimed that around 180 nullahs had been de-silted and cleaned, with work on the remaining pending nullahs to be completed by June 20. A media team visited about a dozen nullahs to verify these claims and observed that in one-third of the locations silt was lying on the banks, another third were overflowing with silt, and others were only semi-cleaned with silt accumulated on the sides.

Monsoon showers continue, Jaipur gets heavy rainfall
Jaipur: Monsoon showers continued across the state for the third consecutive day Friday, with many places experiencing mild to moderate showers. The rainfall exposed civic authorities' lofty claims about their preparedness for the rainy season, as rampant waterlogging was witnessed in many areas of Jaipur and other parts of the state. Phulera (Jaipur) and Bijolia (Bhilwara) received 110 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state. In Jaipur, almost 35 mm of rainfall was recorded by 5:30am, which created problems for commuters. The city experienced dense cloud cover in the afternoon around 1:30pm, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall. At Muhana Mandi, several vehicles got stuck due to the caving in of the road. Heavy waterlogging was seen on Sikar Road, Queen's Road, King's Road, Khatipura, Raja Park, Jawahar Nagar, and Shastri Nagar areas in the city. Whether it was the cleaning of drains or other arrangements, it appears that the city is not yet prepared to handle the monsoon rainfall. The weather remained pleasant in Jaipur, with a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius recorded in the morning, followed by a maximum temperature of 28.3 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. The Met office stated that the progress of monsoon has been good so far, as it has covered almost 23 districts in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không?
