Doc arrested after causing chaos on flight, threatening to crash it
Bengaluru: A 36-year-old doctor was arrested on Tuesday after she created ruckus aboard an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat and allegedly threatened to crash the aircraft when cabin crew objected to her placing baggage in a restricted area near the crew cabin.
The incident delayed the flight by two hours and led to a security scare. The accused, identified as Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, from Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, was travelling alone on Air India Flight IX2749 with two pieces of baggage.
According to police, the Ayurvedic doctor bypassed the check-in counter, insisting on carrying both bags on board. The situation escalated after Mohanbhai boarded the flight and left one of her bags near the crew cabin while taking the other to her seat, 20F.
When the cabin crew asked her to keep the bag in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused and insisted they keep it with them. Despite repeated requests by the crew and later the captain, Mohanbhai refused to comply and began abusing the staff.
The confrontation soon involved fellow passengers, who also tried to reason with her, but she reportedly shouted at them and continued her tirade. At one point, she allegedly threatened to crash the flight if the crew moved her baggage.

With the situation spiralling, the captain alerted security and called CISF personnel, who boarded the aircraft and offloaded her.
The incident took place between 2.45pm and 5.30pm, according to a complaint filed by Agnimitra Bahinipati, associate manager of security at Kempegowda International Airport, with the KIA police.
Police said Mohanbhai did not stop there. Once taken to the KIA police station, she continued to abuse and manhandle police officers, creating further disturbance.
"This was the first time we heard such abusive language in the station," a senior officer claimed.
Mohanbhai was arrested and booked under section 3A of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, which carries a punishment of life imprisonment and sections 351 (criminal intimidation) and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She has been remanded in judicial custody.
Her husband, who works in an educational institution in the city and hails from Odisha, appeared before police. He informed them that Mohanbhai had stopped practising medicine and was en route to Gujarat to visit her family.
He reportedly told police she had created disturbances in public spaces in the past. Police are now verifying her background and previous incidents.

9 returning from wedding die as SUV, truck collide in Purulia
Purulia: Nine people returning from a wedding were killed on the Dhanbad-Jamshedpur stretch of NH18 on Friday morning when their vehicle collided with a truck. All the victims, including two brothers, were from Jharkhand. The nine had taken an SUV from Jharkhand's Nimdih village, in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, to attend a wedding in Purulia's Adabana village on Thursday. On Friday, they were headed home when, around 6.30am, their Bolero collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction at a curve. The Bolero crumpled while the truck overturned on the roadside. According to witnesses, the impact was such that the front of the SUV completely caved in, trapping passengers inside. Balrampur police transported the nine to Banshgar Rural Health Centre, where doctors declared all of them dead on arrival. Ajay and Bijoy were brothers. The bodies were sent for autopsy to Deben Mahata Government Medical College & Hospital. Conman arrested for cheating investors in Erode district
COIMBATORE: A conman, who had been absconding for two years, was arrested by the economic offences wing police in Erode district on Friday in connection with a cheating case. The arrested man has been identified as Franklin, 50. Police said Naveenkumar, 38, of Edaiyankattuvalasu in Erode district started two companies -- Unique Exports and East Valley Agro Farms -- in 2017. He became the managing director of the two firms. Muthuselvan, an ex-serviceman from Ramanathapuram, was functioning as a partner. They promised a monthly return of Rs 18,000 as an incentive against a Rs 1 lakh deposit. Similarly, the firm offered various schemes to the investors. The general public, ex-servicemen and their families invested huge amounts in the two companies. The investors got incentives for two months. After that, the firms failed to give them incentives. Later, the companies were closed. Initially, the victims lodged a complaint with the Erode district crime branch police, who registered a case against Naveenkumar, Muthuselvan and a few others. Ahmedabad Plane Crash: 231 Victims Identified Through DNA Tests
Ahmedabad: Over a week after 270 people were killed in the Ahmedabad plane crash, 231 victims have been identified through DNA tests, and the bodies of 210 of them were handed over to their families, a health official said on Friday. A London-bound Air India flight AI-171 carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. All but one on board the plane died along with nearly 29 on the ground when the aircraft smashed into a medical complex in Meghaninagar area of the city shortly after its take-off. Authorities are carrying out DNA matching to establish the identity of the victims, as several bodies were charred beyond recognition or damaged. "Till Friday evening, 231 DNA samples have been matched and relatives have been contacted. So far, the mortal remains of 210 victims have been handed over to families," Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Rakesh Joshi said. The 210 victims comprise 166 Indians, 36 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian, he said. Of the 166 Indians, a total of 155 were on board the ill-fated aircraft, Joshi informed. The Indian victims who were identified so far belonged to various parts of the country, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Diu and Nagaland, he said. The state government had earlier said that samples of 250 victims, including persons on board the ill-fated flight as well as those killed on the ground, were collected for identification.
