Olaplex's new shampoo and conditioner gave my hair 'instant volume'

Olaplex's new shampoo and conditioner gave my hair 'instant volume'

Independent02-05-2025

If you're a haircare fanatic, you'll know that Olaplex makes some of the best products on the market. Whether it's the pre-shampoo No.3 treatment (£19.50, Amazon.co.uk) or the cult No.7 bonding oil (£22.40, Amazon.co.uk), everything I've tested from the brand has transformative results – it's no surprise Kim Kardashian and Margot Robbie are fans.
Now, less than three months since the launch of Olaplex's No.0.5 scalp longevity treatment (£41, Sephora.co.uk), the brand has treated us to two more 2025 releases designed for fine hair. The new drops are variations on the existing No. 4 and 5 shampoo and conditioner (£56 for both, Cultbeauty.co.uk), swapping heavier conditioning ingredients like amodimethicone (a type of silicone) for lighter alternatives such as behentrimonium chloride (derived from rapeseed).
I wanted to see how this change, alongside more than 50 other ingredient modifications, impacted the feel and appearance of fine hair. As one of the first people to get my hands on the new fine bond maintenance formulas (£30 each, Olaplex.com), I did just that. Scroll on for my first impressions after several weeks of hair washing.
How I tested
After receiving Olaplex's new formulas, I immediately got to work using the fine hair-specific shampoo and conditioner. I solely used these products on wash days for several weeks and made sure to rinse and repeat at the shampoo stage. As I do in my usual conditioning routine, I then left the No. 5 fine bond maintenance conditioner on my hair for two to three minutes to do its thing while combing through any tangles in the shower. I then rinsed and blow-dried as normal.
Why you can trust IndyBest reviews
In addition to heading up The Independent 's guide to the very best shampoo and conditioners, I've reviewed dozens of hair wash formulas, including those by Monday and The Ordinary. I've also covered Olaplex's blow-dry mist and the top deals on the brand's bestselling No. 3 hair perfector. I have plenty of know-how when it comes to key ingredients and have interviewed a variety of trichologists and expert hair stylists in my years as a beauty journalist.

No RSVP's to Ramsay St: Neighbours finale falls flat with A-listers who starred in the soap - as Margot Robbie snubs reunion

The upcoming Neighbours finale risks becoming a disaster, with a string of A-list stars reportedly declining to reprise their roles for the soap's final bow. While the long-running soap opera, which was axed for a second time in February, was once a ratings giant that pulled in the biggest names in Aussie television, Ramsay Street now faces a farewell that feels more like a whisper than a celebration. Despite a dramatic rescue by Amazon Freevee in late 2022 after it was first axed in February that year, the soap's revival has hit a sudden halt, with a 'resting' period set for December 2025. Attempts to bring back some of the A-Listers who got their start on the show, including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia and Russell Crowe have fallen flat, leaving producers disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm. The original grand finale from 2022 was a ratings smash, with fan favourites like Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Guy Pearce reprising their roles. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Kylie Minogue, previously thrilled about her return for the 2022 finale, now reflects on feeling misled by the revival, reportedly describing it as a 'waste of time'. However, one Ramsay Street veteran confirmed to be making their return is Kimberley Davies, who appeared on the soap from 1993 to 1996, and later moved to America, appearing in several US productions including Friends and Ally McBeal. The absence of grand returns and viral excitement marks a stark contrast to the show's former glory days, signalling an end that feels definitive. For a series renowned for its family dramas and iconic TV moments, its stars have chosen to remain in the wings, leaving fans to ponder the end of an era. 'The cast of the current season will need to rely on the storylines that involve their characters because breaking out the cheque book won't cover it,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia. They added Margot and Kylie were not paid for their appearance in the 2022 finale, which made them even less thrilled about returning. 'The mega stars waived their usual million dollar fees and felt like they were waving goodbye to the show that launched them. It was very classy,' they said of the 2022 finale. 'The fact that Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn and Ryan Maloney were tipped off as the show was saved during Neighbours' "farewell tour" was pretty awkward in retrospect. 'However, it was a little too late to call everyone who bought into the farewell episodes. Longtime fans will probably choose to remember the excellent tribute Network Ten pulled off in 2022. 'The only thing left to make any noise at this point would be to kill off legacy characters and the decision makers know that would not be fair to the remaining fans who returned to the show for these encore seasons.' News that iconic Australian soap Neighbours had been pulled by streaming giant Amazon has left fans heartbroken. It was revealed that the long-running series will be axed for a second time after production company Fremantle Australia failed to agree to terms with the US-based streamer. The official Neighbours X account shared the news, revealing the final episodes would air in December. 'We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025,' the post read. 'New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.' Neighbours nearly ended forever two years ago when Channel 5, who part funded the soap for UK viewers, pulled out of their deal. The final episode aired on July 29, 2022, and saw very famous faces return and there were epic cameos made by Holly Valance, Natalie Imbruglia and Ian Smith, as they reprised their roles. The 2022 finale proved to be a huge hit as a peak of almost 3million UK viewers tuned in to watch lovebirds Scott (Jason) and Charlene (Kylie) back in Erinsborough. In Australia, the episode, which was aired on Channel 10 and 10 Peach, drew 873,000 metro viewers across both stations, largely thanks to the cast of returning favourites. And mere months after its success, it was confirmed that Amazon Freevee had given the show another lease of life and brought it back under revamped production. The newly-rebooted Neighbours premiered on Amazon in September 2023, but just less than two years on, it will be leaving screens for good. The soap, which followed the lives of the denizens of fictional Melbourne cul-de-sac Ramsay Street, had captivated audiences for an astonishing 40 years. Neighbours was aired on Freevee worldwide, but Amazon axed the free, ad-supported streaming service late last year, folding it under its Prime Video banner.

EXCLUSIVE Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding date CONFIRMED as new details emerge about lavish marriage events with luxury yacht heading towards holiday island

After a two-year-long engagement, Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are due to get married in Venice, Italy. And while a multitude of celebrations are taking place to mark the nuptials next week, a source in Italy has revealed to MailOnline that the couple will officially tie the knot on June 27. They will say 'I do' on the island of San Giorgio, which is home to the famous Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, a 16th century Benedictine church. Bezos' $500 million superyacht, Koru, will be docked on the island's harbour. The island, which is owned by the Cini Foundation, will not be open to the public. The ceremony is part of three events, all at different locations, which will take place to celebrate the newly weds. It is believed that on June 26, there could be a gala at a private cloister along the iconic Lid potentially at Chiostro della Madonna dell'Orto. And on June 28 there will be a lavish party at a palazzo or church, the source believes. The insider confirmed that guests are expected to arrive in the country over the next few days and leave by June 29. The guest list is thought to have less than 200 people, with suspected guests including A-listers like Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and even members of the Trump family. In addition to the private tenders, around 60 of Venice's water taxis are reserved for the week, with some of the 400 gondolas on the island out of commission as well. Some of the most expensive and high-end hotels in the Italian city include The Aman, where you can book a room for over $2,700 per night, and Hotel Cipriani, which goes for over $2,000 per night. Local bakery Rosa Salva Venetia will be providing pastries for the extravagant weekend. The delicious menu items at the bakery include tiramisu, flaky, cream-filled pastries, and fritelli, a traditional Italian fried treat. However, Rosa Salva Venetia will not be providing the wedding cake for the loved-up couple. Our source claimed that a celebrity wedding planner, who is not working this event, has heard that guests will receive 'opulent' gifts just for attending the nuptials. The insider confirmed that guests are expected to arrive in the country over the next few days and leave by June 29 And it looks like all of this opulence is thanks to Sánchez herself, as her hubby-to-be revealed in a 2023 Vogue interview that he wouldn't dare get involved with wedding planning. 'Oh, God, no. Do I look that dumb?' Bezos told the outlet when he was asked if he had a big part in the preparations. During the interview, the future Mrs. Bezos listed Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, and Valentino as some of her favorite designers, but didn't share anything about which one will make her gown - or gowns, for that matter. Separate sources recently told MailOnline that the festivities are expected to cost anywhere from $15 to $20 million. Many things went into the estimate of the total cost, including transportation fees, her wedding dress and catering. During the interview, Ms Sánchez also revealed that Bezos is a 'monster' in the gym, and that they do much of their training together. Though, they can't do everything together, as she noted that he was on a 'whole different level' than she is. And Sánchez and her man have been getting shredded together for their upcoming nuptials. Separate sources recently told MailOnline that the festivities are expected to cost anywhere from $15 to $20 million In the past, the Blue Origin astronaut, now 55, has taken to her Instagram page to share various videos of her workouts, which often include weight training and a lot of abdominal work. Previously, she shared a video of her quick, twenty-minute workout with a trainer, which included Nordic hamstring curls, step-up knee drives, thrusters ad bench step-overs. While there are varying reports as to when Bezos started a relationship with Ms Sánchez, it has been claimed that the two first met as far back as 2016. It's claimed that the two were 'cordial' acquaintances until they met at another event in 2018. Later that year, they started working together, when Jeff hired Black Ops Aviation, Sánchez's production company, to work for his aerospace company, Blue Origin, garnering content. Reports say that Sánchez- a helicopter pilot, former Miss Junior America New Mexico, and reporter for Extra - and Jeff started their relationship that year. At the time, Lauren was married to Patrick Whitesell, a top Hollywood talent agent, which meant that she was familiar to many in Tinseltown herself. A magazine outed the couple for having an affair while both married. Four years after Bezos' divorce was finalised, he got down on one knee to propose to his Emmy Award-winning journalist girlfriend - with Ms Sánchez saying yes. The 2023 proposal took place aboard Jeff's $500 million superyacht and was sealed with an impressive sparkler. Estimated by some to be between 15 and 20 carats, Lauren's diamond ring has been valued at between $3 and $5 million dollars. Since going public in 2019, the couple have flaunted their love around the world, holidaying aboard Jeff's megayacht and enjoying a dinner date with former celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson.

Inside Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's 3-day Venetian wedding with star-studded guest list, $500m yacht, & unique gifts

BILLIONAIRE Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sanchez are preparing to tie the knot in a lavish three-day wedding in Venice next week. The couple have remained tight-lipped about the upcoming nuptials but as the date nears, more details about the star-studded extravaganza have emerged. 9 9 9 The 61-year-old Amazon founder proposed to Sanchez, a former TV journalist, with a multi-million dollar ring on his yacht in May 2023. Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, confirmed in March that the popular Italian city would host the couple and their guests for the highly-anticipated ceremony. He said the city was "extremely proud" the couple had chosen it for their wedding and called it "an honor that Bezos is coming to Venice". The happy couple appear to be keeping the celebration intimate with reports of around 200 guests being invited. But that relatively small list is thought to include some big names including celebrities, politicians, and business moguls. This is certainly the case if Sanchez's star-studded Parisian bachelorette party is anything to go by. The final hoorah before the "wedding of the century" was attended by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Katy Perry, and Eva Longoria. Multiple reports suggest stars including Leonardo Di Caprio, Orlando Bloom, Mick Jagger, and Beyoncé, are expected to attend as well as Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner. The upcoming bash is said to be as extravagant as a royal wedding with Sanchez's brother Paul telling TMZ it would "be like a Princess Di thing". "It's gonna be an amazing event. It's gonna be star-studded and fun," he said. The couples' children from their previous marriages are also expected to be in attendance. Bezos has four children with his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott and Sanchez has two children with her ex-husband Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell and a son with ex-football player Tony Gonzalez. Exact details for the celebrations have been kept under wraps but are believed to kick off on June 24 and end on June 26, a spokesperson for Brugnaro told CNN. As preparations are underway, city officials told NBC News. that 30 water taxis out of 280 have been reserved and up to four hotels have been booked. LIFE OF LUXURY These are thought to be several luxury venues along the Grand Canal including the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, the Grand Aman Hotel, the St Regis Venis, and the Gritti Palace. A room at The Aman, built in 1550, will set you back at least $2,700 per night, with prices going up to $10,000. This is where the couple are said to be staying, per TMZ, as sources claim the entire hotel has been booked out from June 25 to June 29. City officials added that "the celebrations, attended by 250 guests, will blend into the daily rhythm of a city". "Once again, Venice proves to be a world stage," Brugnaro said. 9 9 9 The actual ceremony is reported to be taking place on Bezos' $500 million yacht which will be in the Venetian lagoon, according to People. Meanwhile, the whole island of San Giorgio Maggiore which lies opposite St Mark's Square has reportedly been booked out. A source told the Daily Mail that the whole island will be "off limits to visitors" from June 24 to June 29. The power couple have also booked the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a grand event building in the city's historic center, per the outlet. The couple are said to be using mainly local vendors to cater for the huge event. Around 80 percent of the wedding is to be locally sourced including from Rosa Salva, the city's oldest pastry maker and Laguna B, a studio famed for its hand-blown Murano glass. Rosa Salva, which has been in business since 1876, has been asked to provide an array of surprises for goody bags , Antonio Rosa Salva revealed. It is not known how Laguna B will contribute to the celebrations, with the business remaining tight-lipped. One source told The Mail that a celebrity wedding planner not connected to the event has been told guests are being given "opulent" gifts just to attend. The three-day celebrations could cost as much as $21 million, The Mail reported. 9 9 9 'JUST BEGINNING' The 55-year-old bride is thought to have taken on the majority of the organizing for the big day, as Sanchez previously told Today that she has been obsessively adding to her Pinterest board "like every other bride". "I'm very excited about it, thinking about the dress. I have to say, I do have a Pinterest. I'm just like every other bride," she told Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb back in November. "I never thought at 54 — I'm going to be 55 — that I'd be an author, that I'd be getting married. I mean, life is just beginning." Her billionaire husband-to-be told Vogue in 2023 that he would not have any involvement in the planning saying, "Oh, God no. Do I look that dumb?" when asked if he would be helping out. As some locals launch protests against the wedding taking place in their city, officials have reassured them that they will not be adversely affected. Fears are increasing among some Venetians that they are being priced out of their own city by tourism. "The city is fully accustomed to hosting high-profile events of this nature and scale, including other celebrity weddings, international summits such as the G7 and G20, as well as traditional events like the Festa del Redentore and the Venice Biennale," city hall officials told NBC. "The celebrations, attended by 250 guests, will blend into the daily rhythm of a city that, with dignity and respect, welcomes thousands of visitors from around the world while safeguarding the quality of life for its residents, workers, and students. "Protest initiatives are in no way representative of the majority of citizens, who are proud that Venice has been chosen as the wedding location".
