Revere community mourns death of retired police officer who died in fire
The Revere community is mourning the death of 77-year-old retired city Police Officer Richard 'Richie' Serino, who was killed in a fire in the city Tuesday afternoon.
A passerby called 911 to report the fire at a multi-family home on Washington Avenue just before 4:40 p.m., the State Fire Marshal's Office said previously. Firefighters got the 'fast moving' flames under control and pulled Serino from the house, but he was later declared dead at a hospital.
Revere community members describe Serino as 'an icon' in his community who was 'well-respected.' He became a city police officer in 1979 and spent 34 years working for the department before retiring in 2013, according to Revere police.
Serino served as a motorcycle officer in the police department's Traffic Unit for much of his career in law enforcement, according to Revere police. Interim Revere Police Chief Maria LaVita described him as 'quick-witted and always smiling' in a Wednesday press release.

'Richie was a proud United States Marine and dedicated his career to serving and protecting the City of Revere, the community he loved so deeply,' the police department wrote in a Facebook post.
Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe said in a statement mourning Serino's death that the city's residents will miss driving by Serino's 'legendary' holiday decorations.
'Richie Serino was a community staple, who took pride in his home and his family. He comes from a lineage of Reverians with a rich history in public service, and we are grateful for his, and his family's, contributions to the betterment of our city,' Keefe said in the statement.
Among those Serino leaves behind are his wife, Trudy, and his son, John Serino, who is a Revere firefighter.

'Richie wasn't just a proud Marine or a veteran Revere police officer, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to so many,' Revere State Rep. Jessica Giannino, D-16th Suffolk, said in a Facebook post.
Giannino described Serino as 'a community staple' whose family has been friends with hers for generations. She was honored to help celebrate his service to the Revere community at the Massachusetts State House just a few weeks ago, she said.
Serino 'dedicated his life to his country and his City' and 'worked to keep the streets safe for our residents,' Revere City Councilor-at-Large Bob Haas said in a statement to MassLive. Revere City Councilor-at-Large Michelle Kelley described him as 'a cherished public servant whose dedication touched countless lives' in her own statement.
'His genuine kindness, quiet dedication, and unwavering integrity touched everyone he encountered,' former Revere City Councilor-at-Large Steve Morabito said in a Facebook post.

‘American Nightmare' rapist pleads guilty to additional charges
Matthew Muller, a convicted kidnapper whose crimes were portrayed in the Netflix documentary 'American Nightmare,' pleaded guilty to an additional, 32-year-old kidnapping and sexual assault on Wednesday, according to the Sacramento County district attorney's office. In 1993, a 16-year-old Muller held a couple at gunpoint while they camped at Folsom Lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Muller then tied up the male victim and proceeded to carry away and sexually assault the female victim, according to the district attorney's news release. The district attorney's Cold Case, Science & Technology Unit was 'instrumental' in uncovering additional evidence in the case, the news release added. The latest conviction is part of a string of similar sex crimes committed by Muller, who is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence for a 2015 kidnapping and sexual assault in Vallejo, Calif., and a life sentence for two 2009 kidnappings and assaults in Santa Clara. The 2015 crimes and a subsequent, flawed investigation were the subject of 'American Nightmare,' which premiered last year. Muller was sentenced to 11 years to life for the latest conviction. The sentence will be served consecutively with his other sentences. In 2015, Muller broke into a Vallejo home and drugged and bound a couple, Aaron Quinn and Denise Huskins. Muller then kidnapped Huskins in Quinn's car and held her for three days in his family's cabin in South Lake Tahoe. Muller sexually assaulted Huskins until he eventually released her in Huntington Beach. Huskins was accused by Vallejo police and FBI officials of fabricating her accusations before more of Muller's crimes were uncovered. Huskins and Quinn were treated as suspects until an attempted home invasion in Dublin, Calif., revealed Muller as the perpetrator. 'We knew there was more to this from the beginning, and clearly how things were handled from the beginning led to a lot of errors,' Huskins told The Times earlier this year. According to court documents, Muller drugged his victims with a cocktail of '¼ of a bottle of Diazepam and Nyquil,' and threatened them with violence if they did not comply. Muller's tactics apparently became more sophisticated after the 1993 gunpoint kidnapping, court documents said. Muller, a Harvard-educated immigration lawyer and former Marine, later admitted his involvement with the 1993 crimes to law enforcement, the news release said. 'This case is a powerful reminder that the pursuit of justice never ends. Matthew Muller's admission to the horrific kidnapping and sexual assault of a young girl in 1993 brings long-overdue justice for the victims,' Sacramento County Dist. Atty. Thien Ho said in the release.

Fat Joe Sued For $20M By Ex-Hypeman, Claims Rapper Had Sex With Minors
Source: Al Bello / Getty Fat Joe is being sued for $20 million by his former hypeman, who has lobbed a litany of sordid claims against the Bronx rapper. The lawsuitalleges that Joe, born Joseph Antonio Cartagena, participated in sex acts with several minors in their teens, amongst other wild claims. As initially reported by Variety , Terrance 'T.A.' Dixon filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court Southern District of New York against the 'Lean Back: rapper on Thursday, June 19. Dixon was reportedly Joe's hypeman for over 15 years, giving him front row view of the illicit behavior he described in his 157-page lawsuit. It's worth noting that Dixon's lawyer is Tyrone Blackburn, the same man who is representing Lil Rodney in his lawsuit againt Sean 'Diddy' Combs, which also includes some explosive charges against the disgraced mogul. However, Blackburn has developed a rep for representing clients with over-the-top claims that aren't necessarily credible. But Dixon claims that over the years Fat Joe coerced him in over 4.000 sexuals acts to keep him in good 'standing within the Enterprise. According to Dixon he was pressured 'into humiliating situations, including sex acts performed under duress and surveillance, accompanied by threats of abandonment in foreign countries if [he] refused compliance.' The most egregious claim in the lawsuit is its detailing of Fat Joe allegedly participating sex acts with three Jane Does—one 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds. Also included in the RICO-claiming lawsuit are longtime Fat Joe associates. Pete 'Pistol Pete' Torres and Richard 'Rich Player' Jospitre, as well as Roc Nation. Dixon's lawsuit arrives after he and Blackburn were sued by Fat Joe back in April for slander after alleging on social media that the rapper flew a 16-year-old girl across state lines to engage in sexual intercourse. Joe maintains that Dixon and Blackburn are basically trying to extort him, allegedly. Fat Joe is being represented by Joe Tacopina, a criminal attorney who has become famed in Hip-Hop circles after representing A$AP Rocky, who acquitted of gun charges and who past clients include Meek Mill, and Donald Trump. In reponse to the lawsuit against Fat Joe, Tacopino told Variety , 'The lawsuit filed by Tyrone Blackburn and Terrance Dixon is a blatant act of retaliation — a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the civil suit we filed first, which exposed their coordinated scheme to extort Mr. Cartagena through lies, threats, and manufactured allegations.' Congressman Max Miller said he was run off the road by driver waving Palestinian flag
Republican Congressman Max Miller says that he was run off the road by a man waving a Palestinian flag in Ohio -- an incident that comes amid a heightened environment of political violence. 'The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control,' Miller said on social media Thursday. 'Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off. I have filed a police report with Capitol Police and the local police department. We know who this person is and he will face justice.' 'As a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not hide in the face of this blatant anti-Semitic violence,' Miller continued. This incident comes amid a disturbing increase in political violence nationwide and in the immediate aftermath of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband being fatally shot in their home. State Sen. John Hoffman remain in critical condition after he was shot nine times along with his wife Yvette, who was shot eight times. She has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. Elsewhere, a man accused of trespassing at the home of the Memphis, Tennessee, mayor has been charged with attempted kidnapping and stalking, according to police, who said the suspect had a Taser, gloves, rope and duct tape in his vehicle at the time of his arrest. The suspect was apprehended and charged after police investigated "suspicious activity" in Mayor Paul Young's neighborhood, the Memphis Police Department said Wednesday. The suspect -- 25-year-old Trenton Abston -- has been charged with attempted kidnapping, stalking and aggravated criminal trespass, police said. He is detained at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, online jail records show. It is unclear if he has an attorney at this time. 'Let's make something abundantly clear to anyone who needs to see this, which, apparently, is a lot of people,' Miller said in his social media post. 'If you have an issue with a legislator, your city councilman, your mayor, anyone like that. The appropriate thing to do is to reach out to them for a phone call to set up a meeting at one of our district offices. What is not okay is to assault anyone, whether you are a member of Congress or anybody else within our district when you are driving to work.'
