23 Flight Attendants Share On The Job Horror Stories
IDK about you, but I am very, very, very, very, very, very, VERY much not a fan of the airport...or planes...or being in the sky in general. So, needless to say, I have a lot of respect for people who spend most of their days working on planes, tending to entitled customers, and all around living my actual nightmare.
Well, Reddit user TwistedHumorX recently asked cabin crew members to share the worst, weirdest, and "most WTF" things they've ever witnessed on the job. Y'all...I fear these stories have only validated my fears and confirmed that flight attendants are perhaps some of the strongest people in the world. So, without further ado, here are 23 shocking and occasionally disturbing stories they shared:
"We found poop in the toilet sink. Sometimes it's pee sloshing around because people don't know the sink has to be drained, aside from the fact that it is a sink and not a toilet bowl. Also, some men insisted they needed a sanitary napkin, just because they saw a woman receive it from me. They thought I was giving out amenities and felt they also had a right to receive whatever the lady got. So, fine, I gave them some. The next time I passed by, they had the pads stuck to their eyes. They thought they were eyeshades."
"My girlfriend is cabin crew. There are two main stories she tells. The first one is a passenger who mixed sleeping pills and alcohol, this caused the passenger to freak out and attack another passenger. The other involves a passenger who didn't have his belt over his blanket when the fasten seat belt sign was lit. He looked asleep and didn't respond to the crew when they tried to wake him, so they had to move the blanket to check. Turns out he was masturbating."
"My father was a pilot and my mother was a flight attendant. I've always said my mom should write a book. In the 1960s, my mom's route was LA–NY and back (first class cabin), so it always had a famous person or two. Actors were always the worst for her. Most notably, she said she was manhandled by Robert Goulet, who then proceeded to tell the whole plane that he had sex with her (which didn't happen). After my mom asked Lucille Ball what she would like to drink, Lucille Ball replied, 'I don't talk to servants.'"
"A passenger asked me for a Coke while I was actively performing CPR on someone."
"I fly for a low-cost carrier in Europe. I've got loads of stories of people leaving weird or random stuff behind, but the one that sticks out the most is a fake leg. We were aware of a passenger with a prosthetic leg as PRM agents brought him on board with an ambulift, but we never thought he could leave his leg behind."
"Before I became a flight attendant, I worked in customer service and as a ramp agent at my station. We were the regional for a larger carrier, so we did a lot of things ourselves, like catering, taking care of missed baggage, and even having our own lost and found. Well, one day, I was watching the lost and found desk and one of our gate agents came in with a laptop. She said she found it at an empty gate, so I had no flight information to go off of. The laptop had no stickers or other identifying information on it, so I thought to myself, 'Hmm, I bet if I open it, it will have a lock screen with the owner's name.' So I opened it. But the laptop didn't open to the lock screen, it opened to the tab the owner had been viewing, which was a porn site."
"My aunt said that on one flight on Thanksgiving, they were serving turkey to the first-class customers (back when they still served food). As they brought the turkey out and were about to start serving the people, they hit some turbulence and the turkey fell on the ground. It was the only turkey they had, so she simply picked it up and walked to the back 'to get a new one.' In reality, she just dusted it off and brought the same one back."
"A customer pooped in their drink cup and left it on the galley counter. Said she didn't want to wait for the bathroom, and that she 'took care of it' at her seat. I almost lost it."
"One time, I was picking up trash and recycling, and a man handed me a porno magazine. X-rated. Just unabashedly gave it to me. I was shocked when I looked down, not because he gave it to me, but because he must've thought it was appropriate reading material for a public place and had finished it during the flight!"
"A while back, I (pilot) was collecting an aircraft and asked the inbound crew how their flight down was. She responded that it was pretty normal except she had to reprimand a couple for licking each other's nipples. She didn't even seem that fazed by it."
"My friend is an airline attendant, and she said the worst thing she ever found on a plane was a bloody dildo. Don't want to know where or when it was used, but needless to say, they all walked on by and notified the cleaners they'd need a biohazard bag. And what's worse...they found the blood first."
"An older gentleman, probably in his late 60s to early 70s, boarded the plane and told me he had bathroom issues. I was working the aft galley and he sat in the very last row. I assumed he meant he had bladder issues and had to pee frequently, so I didn't really pay any attention. Just before we went into sterile flight on the descent, he got up as quickly as a man of his age could and rushed to the lavatory. He did his business and sat back down."
"We had a passenger come up to us mid-red eye flight from Reno to Dallas. Another passenger had peed in the aisle right next to her. Like, stood up, walked 15 feet, and peed. Police met the plane, and he had no idea what happened, nor did his wife."
"A friend of mine who used to work as a flight attendant walked in to clean the cabin and found a used condom on the floor near the last row. Apparently, someone thought the plane was a love hotel, and I guess they joined the mile-high club and just left the receipt."
"My father worked for an airline for over 30 years and shared this story with me based on one of his colleagues' experiences. On a flight from JFK to Heathrow post-9/11, while the plane was about fourth or fifth in line for takeoff, an American lady demanded to be let off the plane. The attendant naturally refused since the doors were closed, and they were almost at the runway. The lady went nuts and called 911 from her cellphone and said she was an American citizen being held against her will on a foreign airline, and — as they were about to take off — she was going to be taken to another country."
"I was a flight attendant for five years. I have enough wild stories to write a book, maybe two. I've been punched in the face, propositioned, witnessed multiple couples try to get it on in the seats, had one couple try to do it in the galley, had my butt pinched, watched arguments break out over seats being reclined, been told the quality of ginger ale I serve is not of a high enough caliber, seen bare feet on bulkhead walls at face level, had someone try to stow their luggage on my jump seat shortly before landing, and had trash dumped on my food tray while I was still eating from it."
"Former flight attendant. I found a sick bag full of piss in a seat back once."
"I found poop on a chair. Figured out it was an older gentleman. We tried to see if he had another flight so we could let him know, but unfortunately (fortunately?), he only had our flight. Poor guy had no idea."
"My mom was a flight attendant. One time, lightning struck the plane she was in and the engine just shit the bed for a few seconds (which, of course, felt like an eternity). The lights went out, cabin pressure dropped, and the little ceiling bags popped out. The plane dropped in altitude very rapidly, and then...it was over and everything went back to normal. Flight attendants deserve serious props! They have to think quickly, act accordingly, and stay calm in situations like that."
"Quoting my older sister's fiancé (he's a first officer pilot): 'There have been three butt plugs found thus far for my trip from NYC to Miami, and I don't know why.'"
"I used to work for an airline, which meant I got to fly for free as a standby passenger. This is called 'non-revving' (non-revenue passenger). So this one day, I was taking a flight to New York as a non-rev, and there was a girl from our airline who worked as a gate agent on there with a bunch of her friends. Non-revving is a delicate thing sometimes — there are a lot of rules that the airline makes you follow so you don't tarnish their image. I almost got denied entry once because I wasn't wearing dress shoes. These girls boarded and immediately started acting up."
"A passenger changed their baby's diaper on their tray table. 🤢"
And finally, "I got upgraded on a two-hour flight a while back. I was sitting across the aisle from a mom and her two young sons when I heard, 'Mom, I have to go poop.' Keep in mind we were, like, eight rows from the closest bathroom. But nah, instead of escorting her child to the bathroom, she had him stand up in between the seat and the seat back in front of him while she cupped her hands under his ass. That kid shit into her hands. Why."

Teen ‘Lost It' After Parents Upgraded Her Younger Sister to Business Class on a Long Flight — and Not Her: It's 'Unfair'
A teenager said she 'lost it' on her parents after they upgraded her younger sister to business class for a long flight, but didn't do the same for her The 17-year-old said in a post on Reddit that she is upset her parents would treat her and her 14-year-old sibling "differently" "It's just the fact that they have two children, and they would leave the other one out when there were other solutions,' she saidA teen girl said she "lost it" after her parents got her younger sister a business class ticket for a long flight and didn't do the same for her. In a post on Reddit's 'Am I the A------?' forum, the 17-year-old wrote that she and her family will be traveling to China later this year for a family vacation. She and her mother will be flying separately from her father and her 14-year-old sister, as her sibling will be finishing summer camp. 'My dad decided to use all of his frequent flyer points to upgrade him and my sister to premium economy on the way there (12 hours), and business class on the way back (14 hours),' the teen said, adding, 'He sent a message after he did this to the family group chat without discussing it with anybody.' According to the Redditor, her mom then attempted to upgrade herself to business class, but didn't have enough points, so she ended up upgrading both herself and her daughter to premium economy seating instead. The teen girl said she attempted to 'confront' her parents about the travel ordeal, telling them that she thought they could have tried harder to come up with a 'fair solution.' 'My father could've gifted some of his points to my mom so that she also could've upgraded both of us to business class too. In this case, we would've all flown there in economy and back in business,' she explained. However, the teenager wrote that her parents did not appreciate her complaints. 'My father just told me that life isn't fair. My mother said that I'm selfish and the a------ for not being happy for them," she said. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. At that point is when the teen said she started to "lose it" and asked her parents why it was considered 'selfish' to 'want to be treated equally as my sister.' Further explaining that she's 'actually not jealous' of her sister, but rather 'hurt" that her parents didn't try to work out a fairer solution between their two children, the teen continued, "I think my parents can use their points on themselves [because] it's their money, and I wouldn't mind if they only upgraded themselves." "It's just the fact that they have two children, and they would leave the other one out when there were other solutions,' she added. 'This truly isn't about me complaining about being in economy — I don't care about that. I'm just sad they would treat us differently." In the comments section, Reddit users were divided over whether or not the teen was being unreasonable. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'You're getting a trip funded by your parents and are complaining about not getting the same upgrade as your younger sister,' one person pointed out. They added, 'You have three years of having your parents to yourself before she arrived. How many things did you get first, or only because you were born first? Why does everything have to be equal to what your sister has? Life isn't fair, and your parents don't have to bend over backwards to make everything be even for you and your sister.' Other Redditors, however, said that they thought the teen's feelings were entirely valid — and that the parents should have worked harder to try to create a fairer solution. 'There is no way in hell I would do this to one of our kids," one person wrote. "It's not about the better seats. It's being left out and being told she is unreasonable for feeling left out." 'As a parent, I would do my best to be fair to both my children. If both the kids seats couldn't be upgraded then don't upgrade either. [On] a family trip that we took, my parents got the upgraded seats, and my brother and I were back in economy. But at least then neither one of us felt like the other was being treated better. You just want to be treated equally,' said another. Read the original article on People

Carnival Cruise Line warns against a hot cabin hack
Many cruisers turn to online forums like Reddit, Facebook groups, and cruise website message boards for tips and advice about cruises. These forums can be a wealth of cruise information, but it's important to keep in mind that not all of the tips and "cruise hacks" you find on them - even popular ones - are wise. Related: Google scam targets Carnival, Royal Caribbean cruisers Some cruise hacks violate cruise line conduct policies and could get you banned from sailing. Some can also jeopardize your safety and the safety of others. Although some cruise hacks are smart and helpful, you probably shouldn't try any that sound questionable. If you're unsure, consult your cruise line's guest conduct policies or contact its guest services team. Cruise lines want to make it easy for passengers to understand what onboard behaviors are discouraged. Guest conduct policies are quite detailed to help prevent any doubt, and to help ensure a safe and enjoyable onboard experience for all. For Carnival Cruise Line passengers, there's even an easy way to reach out directly on social media to a helpful cruise line representative. Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald manages a popular Facebook page where he answers hundreds of questions from passengers every day. Heald also posts helpful information that cruisers need to know, including warnings about rumors and cruise hacks that passengers should ignore. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. In a video message posted on June 14, Heald shared a serious warning for Carnival cruise passengers after a concerning cruise hack was brought to his attention by both cruisers and a staff member who monitors social media sites for the cruise line. This Carnival cruise cabin hack was posted on a cruise message board and suggested a questionable way to make the cabin air conditioning get cooler. "Basically, what they're saying is you can go into the thermostat, take the thing off, switch some wires around and bypass and sort of try and make it cooler yourself, I guess," Heald explained. Related: Carnival Cruise Line adds powerful solution to solve cabin problem Heald said he didn't really know what this air conditioning hack was telling people to do exactly, but what he did know was that passengers should not attempt it because it's extremely unsafe. "I spoke with one of the engineers about this on one of the ships, and not only is that something that is very likely to give you an electric shock and really injure you, but also it's very dangerous as well from a fire safety point of view," Heald explained. Be the first to see the best deals on cruises, special sailings, and more. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter. As he warned passengers against this cruise air conditioning hack, the brand ambassador also encouraged Carnival cruisers not to hesitate to reach out to guest services if they have a problem with their cabin air conditioning. "Please don't write to me at the end of cruise when you're back home in Cleveland and say it wasn't cold enough in my cabin," Heald stressed. "Talk to somebody on board there - call 7777, go to guest services, tell your cabin attendant, do whatever is necessary." Heald also explained why it may feel like cruise ship air conditioning systems aren't cooling as well as they should, especially during the hot summer season. "The ship uses a cooling system - a cool water system - which takes the cold water from the engines and the engine room and pushes that through into the air conditioning. Now, remember this time of year the water temperatures in the be very warm and so just bear that in mind - it is the very warm and humid time of year," Heald said. Do not, do not tamper with the air conditioning system, please," he reiterated. The brand ambassador also warned that tampering with your cabin air conditioning system could get you banned from sailing on Carnival cruise ships. "Not only is that very dangerous but it's a very good chance that you would stop yourself [from] ever being able to cruise with us ever again," he added. Passenger's bag subjected to disgusting act mid-flight — and the airline says it's not their problem
What a drip-off! A Frontier Airlines passenger was horrified to discover her under-the-seat carry-on bag was soaked with urine following a recent flight — and shocked when airline staffers waved off her complaints. The soggy saga unfolded on a Seattle-Dallas sojourn in early June — and went public after a family member shared the trickle-down theory in a popular Reddit post asking experienced travelers how to get the budget carrier to shoulder the bladder burden. Advertisement The passenger's sister explained that during the flight, the backpack was stored under the seat in front of her, and when she went to grab it when the flight was over, she realized it was 'soaked.' 'She assumed maybe water or soda, but when she tried to dry it off in the airplane bathroom, the paper towels came out yellow,' the post said. 'She's 99% sure the person sitting in the seat in front of her peed during the flight and it leaked onto her backpack.' Advertisement Right after deplaning, the passenger went right to the gate to try and report it, but 'the staff there basically brushed her off' and told her to go to the ticket counter. When she did that, they then sent her to the supervisor. 'She's literally carrying around pee soaked paper towels as evidence while getting bounced around the airport trying to find someone who will take her seriously,' the Reddit user wrote. A manager admitted that they had to call the general manager since they didn't know how to handle the situation because 'nothing like this has happened before.' Advertisement A Frontier Airlines passenger discovered that her carry-on bag was soaked with urine by the end of the flight. Alba Vitta Studio/Stocksy – They eventually told her that Frontier couldn't do anything about the situation and she would have to 'settle it with the passenger.' The poster found this advice to be 'ridiculous.' 'Who in their right mind is going to confront someone, but also confront someone about an unknown bodily fluids???' they questioned. Advertisement 'This whole thing just feels… so gross and wrong. A bodily fluid soaks her personal belongings, and she's being told she's on her own?' They told her that Frontier couldn't do anything about the situation and she would have to 'settle it with the passenger.' Getty Images One user who claimed to be a Frontier flight attendant commented on the post claimed that 'Frontier doesn't care about the cleanliness of our planes.' 'Frontier doesn't consider anything a biohazard unless it visibly contains blood (even if there is a reasonable possibility of it containing blood, such as urine, feces, or vomit).' 'We also don't have cleaners. FAs pick up trash from the seatback pockets and GAs are supposed to do everything else. Most times if there is stuff on the seats we can't get them to do anything. The times they've had to clean them, due to something extreme like vomit, all they've done is lightly wipe the seat with some paper towels and maybe some basic cleaning spray.' The Post has contacted the airline for comment. Meanwhile, Frontier's contract of carriage states that the airline is not responsible for incidents like the one described. 'Frontier will not be liable for loss or damage to carry-on baggage unless such damage is caused by Frontier's or its agent's negligence, which does not include damage resulting from turbulence, shifting of items during flight, or ordinary handling, including placing the baggage in overhead compartments or under seats.'
