GENCO & TRANSCO get four directors
VIJAYAWADA: Four newly appointed directors of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) and Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) assumed their roles at Vidyut Soudha, Vijayawada, on Thursday, following the State government directives. The appointments aim to strengthen the State's power sector and enhance operational efficiency.
Vemulapalli Usha has been appointed as Director (HR & IR), APGENCO. With 40 years of experience in APSEB and APGENCO and an M.Com. degree, she plans to focus on employee skill development, grievance redressal, and aligning HR initiatives with the State's power sector vision.
P Ashok Kumar Reddy, a B.Tech. graduate from SV University, takes charge as Director (Thermal), APGENCO. With 36 years of experience, he aims to modernize thermal units, improve plant efficiency, and maintain environmental standards. He led the commissioning of an 800 MW unit at Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station and earned SAP ACE and SKOCH Awards.
M Sujaya Kumar, with a B.E. (EEE) and MBA (HR), has been appointed Director (Hydel), APGENCO. He plans to optimise hydel power operations and promote renewable energy projects, including 400 MW solar projects at Tadipatri.
J Venkateswara Rao, with 38 years of service and a B.Tech., is the new Director (Technical), APTRANSCO. He aims to implement advanced techniques like Live Line Maintenance to ensure uninterrupted power transmission. They expressed gratitude to CM N Chandrababu Naidu, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, and Chief Secretary K Vijayanand and pledged to work towards a robust and power sector.

APSPDCL assures uninterrupted power supply to Sri City
Tirupati: APSPDCL Chairman & Managing Director K Santhosha Rao said that the SPDCL is supplying better power supply to Sri City under Satyavedu SEZ. He held a review meeting on Friday with the officials on power supply to Sri City. Speaking on the occasion, he informed that the APSPDCL is working hard to provide 24-hour power supply to the industries in line with the instructions of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The maintenance work of breakers to be carried out regularly for un-interrupted power supply, adding that installing new relays to prevent power outages. He said that if the internal power problems within the industry are resolved from time to time, there will be an opportunity to prevent the interruptions completely. He said that by bringing the issue of internal power problems to the attention of SPDCL officials, there will be an opportunity to resolve the problems quickly. Telangana has advocated for a comprehensive audit of large irrigation projects before a Supreme Court panel, highlighting their impact on agricultural sustainability HYDERABAD: As debates continue around the cost and viability of the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, Telangana has made a strong case before the Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee on agricultural crisis-constituted in the aftermath of the Punjab farmers' protests against central farm laws. During their interaction with the committee over the last two days in Haryana, Telangana representatives called for a comprehensive audit and review of investments in large irrigation projects, citing their direct impact on agricultural sustainability. They proposed promoting small-scale, individually-owned irrigation systems as a viable alternative to the current large-scale, publicly-managed projects, which often come with significant financial and ecological burdens. A key recommendation was to issue insurance policy documents to farmers, similar to health and life insurance formats, to offer better financial security in the face of crop failure and unpredictable climatic conditions. Telangana Rythu Commission chairperson M Kodanda Reddy, Telangana Seed Development Corporation chairperson S Anvesh Reddy, and other members of the Telangana team also stressed the importance of developing multiple use water systems, arguing that water should serve various agricultural and non-agricultural needs. Improve existing infra "Site selection for irrigation projects should be done carefully to minimise negative environmental and social impacts," they noted, while advocating for improving the efficiency of existing infrastructure and reclaiming degraded farmland instead of building new projects. Among other crucial points raised: State-wise water resource management plans should be formulated. The minimum support price (MSP) should be extended to all crops, with focus on crops like turmeric, jaggery, and mustard, given escalating input costs. Telangana also proposed that states be empowered to set their own MSP. The farmer should be recognised not just as a producer but also as a consumer, who routinely faces issues such as poor quality inputs, lack of after sales service, price manipulation, and weight fraud - areas where the Consumer Protection Act fails to fully safeguard farmers . Telangana urged the creation of special legal provisions for farmers as consumers.

Navi Mumbai: Even as nearly two lakh depositors are yet to get their money back 15 years after the Rs 758-crore Pen Co-operative Urban Bank scam unearthed, a banner featuring the main accused, former chairman of the bank Shishir Dharkar, alongside chief minister Devendra Fadanvis and his cabinet colleague Ashish Shelar has come up at a key junction in the township. The banner thanks Fadnavis for the Bombay high court stay on the use of plaster of Paris Ganpati idols. Pen taluka and the township are famous for Ganesh idols. Through this banner, Dharkar is attempting to boost his political image as well as that of his supporters, claim local activists. Dharkar was the chairman when the bank went into trouble between 2000 and 2010 over bad loans and without insurance renewal to save the depositors getting basic deposit amount. He has been accused of allegedly opening 685 fake loan accounts in various branches of the bank by manipulating bank records and withdrawing the funds for personal gains.
