Passengers irked with delays in Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express after augmentation
South Western Railways' move to add five more coaches to the Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express has resulted in a delay of about an hour in the train's arrival at Bengaluru and Karwar since June 13.
While the Panchaganga Express (train no. 16596) is scheduled to arrive at Yeshwanthpur at 6.43 a.m., it arrived late by 47 minutes, 1.34 hours, 1.10 hours, and 1.08 hours on June 13, 14, 15, and 16, respectively, according to Prathvi Kunder, a patron from Kundapura.
The train's average delay for the last seven days was 41 minutes at Yeshwanthpur and 27 minutes at KSR Bengaluru, according to the National Train Enquiry System (NTES).
Similarly, the train arrived late by 9 minutes, 13 minutes, 2.06 hours, and 1 hour at Karwar on these dates, against the scheduled arrival of 8.25 a.m., he told The Hindu. The average delay in the last week at Karwar was 7 minutes, according to the NTES.
Office-goers affected
The delayed arrival, particularly at Bengaluru, has affected regular office-going commuters, said Gautam Shetty, a member of Kundapura Railway Prayanikara Samithi. He said the office-goers had to take a half-day leave because of the delay.
The timings of Panchaganga Express, which left Karwar at 6.00 p.m. and reached Yeshwanthpur at 6.43 a.m. and KSR Bengaluru at 7.15 a.m., were the reason the service became a big hit.
After 7:00 a.m., the Yeshwanthpur-KSR Bengaluru section becomes highly congested with the arrival of many trains from far-off places, including North Karnataka, resulting in delays to the Panchaganga Express, he said.
Crossing at Subrahmanya Road
Train no. 16595 and train no. 16596 crossed each other at Siribagilu on the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road Ghat section when they had 14 coaches each. After adding five more coaches to compensate for the cancelled day trains in the section, the two trains were made to cross at Subrahmanya Road Station due to constraints at Siribagilu. The Bengaluru service was not designed to compensate for the delay between Hassan and Chikkabanavara, resulting in the delay, Mr. Shetty said.
Members of Parliament from the coastal region had urged SWR to ensure the punctuality of services before adding more coaches, patrons noted.

Swiggy pilots travel and lifestyle concierge app Crew
Swiggy has launched a travel and lifestyle concierge app, Crew, on a pilot basis, according to information about the app published on Google Play Store. This marks the Bengaluru-based company's entry into a new business after food delivery, dining out, quick commerce and professional services. The app, which involves human concierges in addition to generative artificial intelligence (AI), helps users plan trips, going beyond simply suggesting itineraries. A Swiggy spokesperson did not comment on the development. Last year, ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), the company had started testing Rare Life, a personalised concierge service focused on elite and exclusive experiences. However, this project was discontinued after Swiggy decided not to scale it up beyond a small cohort. In January, the company rolled out professional services marketplace Pyng, signalling that it was following a house of apps strategy similar to Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Meituan, which have also had multiple apps for various services. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories This is in contrast to the 'superapp' strategy, where consumers are expected to come for one basic use-case and transact across multiple services. Also, superapps are yet to see any noteworthy success at scale in India. Besides Crew and Pyng, Swiggy now has the main app, which houses food delivery, quick commerce, dining out and its events platform Scenes. The quick commerce unit, Instamart, also got a separate app in January. The launch of Crew was first reported by Entrackr. Swiggy recently suspended its peer-to-peer parcel delivery service Genie, which was available in 70 cities. The company has also licenced its cloud kitchen brands to food service outfit Kouzina, with plans to fully transfer these businesses upon fulfilment of certain conditions. On Friday, Swiggy shares ended 3.1% higher at Rs 385.90 on the BSE.

Bangalore Metro Purple Line Service Pause on June 22 for Maintenance
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has an important message for metro riders in Bengaluru. They said the Purple Line of the Namma Metro will stop running for a short time, as reported by The Hindu. This is because of planned repair work between Halasuru and Trinity stations. So, trains will not run between M.G. Road and Baiyappanahalli from 7 am to 9 am on Sunday, 22 June. BMRCL said this short break is needed to do the repair work safely and to keep passengers safe and comfortable. During this time, trains will run normally on other parts of the Purple Line — from Challaghatta to M.G. Road and from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield (Kadugodi). The Green Line trains, which run from Madavara to Silk Institute, will not be stopped. Full train service between M.G. Road and Baiyappanahalli will start again after 9 am.

Bengaluru passengers face travel disruptions as Air India cuts international services amid safety concerns: Report
Days after the tragic crash of Air India flight 171, from Ahmedabad to London, the airline has announces several changes in their flight schedule, including cancellations, reduction in frequency and diversions. This includes cancellations of two of its international services from Bengaluru, according to a report by The Hindu. Travelers departing from the Karnataka capital faced disruption on Thursday (June 19), when flight AI 175, a non-stop service to San Francisco scheduled for 1:20 p.m., and AI 133, bound for London Heathrow with a planned departure at 2:15 p.m. were cancelled, officials at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) told the publication. These cancellations come in the wake of Air India's recent decision to scale back its international operations involving widebody aircraft — specifically the Boeing 787 and 777 series. The airline announced on June 18 that it would be reducing long and ultra-long-haul services by 15 per cent. Among the grounded jets, the San Francisco route uses a Boeing 777-200LR, one of the few aircraft capable of covering the nearly 14,000-kilometer stretch, making it the longest commercial route operated by an Indian carrier, the report stated. The London-bound service, on the other hand, typically utilizes a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. As part of its revised schedule, Air India confirmed it will reduce the frequency of its Bengaluru–London Heathrow route from daily to six times a week. This change will take effect starting June 21 and is expected to remain in place until at least July 15. In similar news, a Chennai-bound private airline flight from Guwahati had to make an unplanned landing in Bengaluru after the pilot reported critically low fuel levels, according to airport authorities, news agency PTI reported. The aircraft, carrying approximately 168 passengers, was rerouted mid-flight when the fuel situation was identified as inadequate to safely reach its intended destination. Following refuelling in Bengaluru, the flight was scheduled to resume its journey toward its planned endpoint, officials said.
